"Component outputs stopped working after 3 plays" This DVD player broke after I played it only three times. It was connected to my TV via component outputs. For some reason the component outputs stopped working. I tested multiple cables and configurations and nothing would work. I brought it to a store to be tested. They plugged it into a TV and tried all of the outputs. They were puzzled after trying to get component to work, only to see the other ones work just fine. "Great DVD player, Plays anything! Well worth the money." I ordered this player because I have had problems in the past with other DVD players not working with home made DVDs. This one not only looks great but plays everything Ive put into it! The face is flashy but functional and the stock remote is very useful. I was able to play even film project movies that would not work on some computer DVD players! Great machine! Highly recommended. This product is well worth the extra couple bucks! "Exactly what I was hoping for" It does what it's supposed to. The picture (on my 50" DLP) looks great, no matter what DVD I'm watching. It is sleek in design... although the "power button" does glow when running, which can be kinda annoying. The remote is a typical Samsung remote, easy to use, but not real flashy. All-in-all, a very good unit for the money. "Works well with Samsung TV" I purchased this DVD player to go with my Samsung LCD / LED TV. It works good. "Great for Blu-ray, Hard on the Patience" I ordered this as a gift for my husband. He loves how crisp and clear Blu-ray discs play on this, but he loses his mind with the amount of time it can take to loads a Blu-ray disc and when it skips in the middle of a movie. (This happens almost every time we watch something on Blu-ray.) I like to play CDs through the receiver through this, but it takes forever to load the CD and skip tracks--it skips up to 4 seconds only when trying to fast forward. I would recommend this DVD player for movies, but be patient if it skips or doesn't function properly. We're on our second player (thanks to Amazon/Samsung standing behind their products).

What our customer's say! "Avoid this one!", This DVD player has broken twice and repaired once in just over a year. The first time, it was still under their 90 day warranty. They required I pay the shipping to get it repaired. Ridiculous. Will not buy Samsung products again after terrible customer service and unreliable equipment. "Big Disappointment: Faulty Product, Even Worse Customer Service", This purchase was especially disappointing because I was very pleased with my Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. I bought the upsampling DVD player to complement that TV, but it was a waste of my money. (I was replacing a progressive scan DVD player that was a few years old.) I unpacked the player and attached it to the HDTV with an HDMI cable and got NOTHING. No picture. No menu. Nothing. The TV recognized the Anynet device (DVD player), but found no signal. I spent half an hour playing with the remote, reading through the manual, and searching the terrible support Web site. Finally, I was able to get a flickering, noisy, pink screen. I had to turn off the auto setting for HDMI resolution. I discovered that the DVD player only worked in the 480 setting. The 720p and 1080i settings gave me the distorted video. The 1080p setting resulted in "no signal." I registered the DVD player at the Samsung support site. This required typing in detailed information including the serial number that was printed in a 6 pt. font on the back of the machine. The download area had information about a firmware upgrade. But there was no mention of what version it was or how to find out what version was on my player. Of course, there was nothing about what features this firmware added or what bugs it fixed. The procedure for updating the firmware would have confused a hacker. * Download the zip file containing the firmware. * Unzip the files. * Burn the files to a CD-R. (not a DVD-R because the player does not read them) * Be sure to use the ISO 9660 character set. * Finalize the disc. * Turn on the DVD player. * Turn on the TV. * Switch the source to the DVD player. * Put the Newly burned CD into the player's disc tray. * Answer Yes when prompted to update. Screen shot bears no resemblance to actual prompt. Options are "Total" and "Cancel." * Highlight "Yes" and press Enter on remote. (Of course there is no "Yes" to highlight.) * The upgrade begins and the upgrade screen appears. (The first time nothing changed on the screen when I selected "Total.") (When the screen did appear on the second try, it was completely different than the screen shot shown on the Web site.) * IMPORTANT: While the firmware is installing (without any feedback) do not press any buttons or turn off the player. Unplugging the power cord, dirt or scratches on the disc, opening the tray during processing, or a power outage could cause PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE UNIT. * During the update, the tray will open. * Remove the disc. * Wait two minutes. This information is inconsistently presented in three different locations on the Web site. With luck and persistence, I was able to update the firmware. But it had no impact on my problem. I tried to find some mention of others having the same problem in the FAQs. But the FAQs are not browse-able. I had to type in a question to get a list of possible matches. No version of the question produced any relevant FAQs. I clicked on the "If you do not find the answer you are looking for, send us an e-mail and we'll try to help" link. It brings up a javascript e-mail form. Even though I was logged in with all my personal and product information stored in their online database, I had to re-enter the model number, the serial number, the purchase date, my name, my e-mail address and my zip code. I submitted my request for help one week ago today. I have not received any reply from Samsung, not even a "we got your request" e-mail. This DVD player produces no better output than my old player and is a hassle to use. The Anynet connection is slow and provides little benefit. I would not use it as a factor in deciding whether to buy this unit. I would not recommend buying this player at all. If I didn't like my TV so much, I would recommend not buying anything from a company that is so terrible at customer support. UPDATE: The problem was with the TV. It had an issue with multiple HDMI inputs. This has now been addressed with a firmware upgrade. However, it took 3 weeks for Samsung tech support to get back to me about my problem. "Crapware", Had the same problem others have reported -- the LED readout on the front of the player starts saying gibberish (looks like the album cover for Ghost In The Machine by The Police); which I could live with, but the player starts doing funny things such as constantly resetting to factory settings, or worse yet, not reading the DVD's at all. Its performance has been intermittent since almost day one, and now seems to have crapped out completely. I'm gonna try the firmware update but don't have too much hope that'll fix things. Either way, I will never buy another Samsuck DVD player again. UPDATE: The firmware update didn't do a thing. This player ended up in the dumpster after a year of spotty performance. "Perfect Pair", Goes perfect with the my new Samsung Plasma. Very Small. So far it has been great. "Buy this and use till Blu Ray matures", This is a really nice DVD player. it plays almost all formats. I am using HDMI cables and paired this with a Samsung 40" LCD and the picture quality is really good. I would suggest everyone thinking of getting a bluRay try this first until BluRay matures and the prices come down. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Great DvD player for bedroom", With all the hype about Blu-ray and 1080p. I still enjoy putting a DvD in to my Samsung DVD-1080P7. It plays great on my Samsung 40" and looks amazing "Samsung DVD 1080P7", I have had a problem with this Samsung upconverting DVD player. In the beginning and even up to 15 minutes of play there are sometimes bright flashes of light that flash across the screen. After this finishes there is an excellent picture and we are very pleased with the unit. This does not happen with all discs, and sometimes the flashing is so slight and so short that it is not be a problem. Amazon sent me a replacement unit, and it has the same problem. In discussing this with Samsung they asked me to send it to them for repair. We feel that the problem is slight enough to not bother. This is being used with a new Samsung 4071 TV and played through a new Yamaha RX-V661 receiver. HDMI chords are used. Has anyone else had this problem? "Good player but lacks Divx support", I purchased this player about 3 months ago but needed to return it due to the lack of Divx support and some spotty playback issues. "Samsung 1080P7", Impressive. Limited fine tunning capacity. I purchased this DVD player for the specific purpose of making full use of my Samsung LNT4071F purchase. I am using Belkin, HDMI 1.3, 6ft. long cables. So far I have not been terribly disappointed. I really do perceive a quality difference in my regular DVDs' quality. The movies which seem to produce the greatest amplification are animated movies like The Incredibles and Over the Hedge. In those movies, I could see the individual blades of grass and veining on the leaves of the hedges. Granted, I was looking for the changes. Watching regular movies, like Legend, the Firefly Series, and the X Men movie series, showed improvement in the quality of the picture. I think the images were more crisp, edges more defined. Hopscotch, an older movie with Walter Matthau, did not look as good. Though, to be honest, the Hopscotch DVD looked so-so on a regular DVD player and CRT TV. My conclusion is that the amount of information put into the DVD is what will determine the quality perceived. Something to be aware of: Wireless routers may interrupt signal output. I have a wireless router (DI-524). Do not put the router near this DVD player. Somehow the router will scramble the signal going from the DVD player to the TV. This was not a problem with my older, Panasonic SA-HT810V DVD player. Note: The DI-524's signal strength set to the lowest setting, and the antenna is not attached as I use a wired configuration. I have not read on any forum where this is a problem. The movie we were watching: AVP Requiem. Not a good movie. In the settings for picture quality, I have blackness set to off. The picture appears too dark with it on. I have not read many reviews about this product outside of the Amazon reviews. The main features which influenced this purchase were the price, Anynet Connection, and that it was an upconverter. "great DVD Player", Fast load and play dvd player so far as I have know, look great too. ![]() |
