Others say...
"Decent Grinder For The Price" This replaced a cheap Salton Brand burr grinder that we've used for years. I like the design and it's easy to use but it clogs up easily. The cleaning brush they give you is somewhat flimsy, and has a hard time loosening up the compacted grinds that clog up the discharge chute. I like how quickly it works, but I might look at another brand when this one wears out "I wouldn't buy it if I were you....." I bought the capresso stainless steel burr grinder and have had nothing but trouble with it. Following the directions, the machine continually will just stop grinding every few days. It did this from day the 1st day we got it. We've followed all of the troubleshooting steps to no avail. Then, all of a sudden it will start to work, but again after a few days...same problem all over again. In addition, it is VERY messy. You need to use this little brush to clean out an area that you can't even see into, where ground coffee gets embedded in if you don't clean it every few grinds. It is DEFINITELY not a user-friendly machine. I'm really disappointed with this machine after reading these great reviews on Amazon. I can't imagine what coffee grinders these people used prior to getting this Capresso burr model if they think this machine is worthwhile. The Capresso customer service # is 1-800-767-3554. Hopefully they'll be able to help you if you buy this machine. "Horrible, horrible, horrible" I bought this grinder in October to replace a Delonghi Burr Grinder that I had lost in a breakup (for the record, I had used the Delonghi machine every week for over 2 years without a single problem). I loved my Delonghi grinder and would have bought another in an instant, but they had stopped producing them. I looked and looked to find something that could replace it and finally found the Capresso Burr Grinder. I used it about five times before it stopped working. What a piece of junk! Do NOT buy this machine. It is a waste of money. I, personally, will be resuming my search for a Delonghi grinder. "It's OK" Products grinds well, especially on the finer grade. Is noisey, no problem. Is a chore to clean up. "Mmmm Fresh Ground Coffee" I have never owned a coffee grinder before so when my son gave me an Amazon gift certificate last Christmas I decided to try one. After a bit of research I learned that a burr grinder is best so I just picked a mid-priced one a ordered it. I also got a French coffee press so now I am ready to make a great cup of coffee. I've only used my Capresso 557.01 Burr Grinder once so far as I am making myself use up all the ready-ground coffee I had on hand first. It seems to work fine.. keeping it clean will surely get easier as I get used to it.

What our customer's say! "Awesome Burr Grinder", My favorite thing about it is that it's so easy to clean! All you have to do is remove the empty bean container, lift the upper burr and clean inside the grinding chamber with a special brush that comes with the grinder. You can reuse it in less than a minute. "Horrible grinder, terrible service", My third Capresso 557 has once again broken. I have not had one last more then 2-3 months. Capresso has been reasonable about replacing it, however, the last time I sent it in, they did tell me that they no longer make this non-conical burr grinder because of a design issue that makes it too easy to clog (the other reviews here confirm this issue). Unfortunately, they would not agree to send me a newer model without charging me $15 extra. First, they replaced my more expensive stainless version with a cheaper all plastic version, made me send it in twice while paying for the shipping the first time (now I'm going to have to send it in a third time), then have the gall to charge me extra (I know it's only $15 but it's the principle of it) to get a grinder that doesn't have the known clogging issue. I am doing a renovation and was deciding between a really expensive countertop Capresso Jura Z6 or a built in espresso machine. Given Capresso's terrible customer service, they've lost me as a future customer. I guess Miele will be the next espresso machine in my house. "Zero stars - do not buy", I wanted to give this product zero stars, but that option was not available. I purchased the Capresso 557.01 in January 2008. Almost exactly 2 months later, it stopped working. The motor would run for a second or 2 (with no grinding) and then stop. Since it has a 1 year warranty, I contacted Capresso customer service, and they replaced the unit after I shipped it back to them. The replacement unit lasted almost exactly 3 months and then stopped working with exactly the same symptoms. I called Capresso customer service again, and to their credit, they agreed to refund my $50.00. Of course I have to return the unit to them, paying shipping costs for the second time. This is a pitiful product. Apparently, Capresso agrees because I was told that they are no longer manufacturing it. Good riddance. This experience makes me very reluctant to ever try another Capresso product again. "Big disappointment", There is no warranty from the manufacturer and Amazon only guarantees it for 30 days. Mine lasted for only 45 days before malfunctioning. Motor runs great when empty, load 1 teaspoon of beans and the motor bogs down. Love using Amazon...too bad this was such a big disappointment. "Perfect look and performance", I bought this with a little aprehension because of the mixed reviews. I am so happy with the purchase. First of all it is nice and black and sleek design fits very nicely on the counter and takes up minimum space. Second it has a neat little storage area for the coffee beans, so now I place the beans in the storage area and I dont need the coffee beans sitting on the counter anymore so even more space is saved. Third I can choose the grind on the beans from 1 being very fine to 9 being very course grind. I like my beans not so course, so this is great option. Lastly you can choose how many cups you want ground up at once. So if you make 4 cups program it to 4 and perfect amount is ground up and you dont even have to hold the button down, just push it once and it will grind it up. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Capresso grinder review", It functions very well. The only issue I have with it is that, even at Maximum size grind, it is still rather fine. The multiple settings seem to go from powder to drip grind, but slightly larger grinds, for say a French Press, would be nice. "Great Grinder, but static is an issue", I love this grinder...it does a great job of getting very even grind size. Cons. It is a little loud. The static that a few other reviews have talked about it real. But it isn't too bad, it just spits out some dust that you can sweep in up with you hand. No big deal unless you suffer from OCD. "Great value for the price!!", This product replaced an Italian grinder which lasted only a few months. I have been using this product for a few weeks. I can't comment yet on reliability, but I am quite pleased with this unit so far. While made of plastic, this unit feels very solidly built. It has a small footprint, especially great if you are short on counter space. Of course, no grinder is silent. But my previous unit left my ears ringing after grinding, and it awakened my upstairs neighbors every time! This unit is very quiet by comparison. My favorite feature is the design of the cup into which the ground coffee is dispensed. A couple of taps on the side minimizes the static cling. The cup itself is smaller than the filter for my coffeemaker. So I can place it upside down over the filter basket, tap it, and most all the grounds are released directly into the filter. No mess on the counter!! Very cool!! I primarily use this product for drip coffee. But I have made espresso, as well, and the grind was just right. Highly recommended! "Not Impresso'd", Noisy, inelegant, bizarre and untrustworthy. Failed after 90 days - no refund (smart marketing). Grinds by time instead of amount of coffee necessary for specific brewing needs - who measures coffee by time, Martians? I'm going back to my old Cuisinart - suggest you do the same. "excellent!", This is a great inexpensive burr grinder. Very quiet and very fast, it grinds evenly and produces an amazing cup of coffee. I use a pump espresso machine and the combination of this grinder with that machine produces a latte that would far exceeds the quality of most coffee one can get in a café, even in NYC. Highly recommended. ![]() |
