Others say...
"Good Active Phones, But I Prefer Isolation Phones" Simply stated, the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 are the best active noise cancelling headphones I've tried/owned on a durability and a "bang for the buck" basis. In my opinion, they sound about as good as the Bose headphones I've tried and seem to be about as well constructed. They do not hiss like the Sony active phones I've owned. They have proved to be far more durable than the two pairs of Phillips I've owned, broken, and discarded. Bottom line: the Audio Technica phones reproduce music accurately and do a good job attenuating...but not eliminating...ambient noise. This said, I prefer my passive Vic Firth isolation headphones (the black ones that play music, not the blue ones that simply block noise) and my Direct Sound Extreme Isolation headphones. Why? Isolation phones, primarily used by musicians in high-decibel situations, are far less expensive, sound about as good, block more noise than any active phones I've tried, and are virtually bullet-proof (go ahead and drop them...or throw them). "These headphones are absolutely the best" So far I had these headphones for a month and they are still good. Better than those Bose headphones, way cheaper, and the most sturdy looking headphones i've ever had had. Another feature I like the most is the detachable wire because every time I buy headphones they end up breaking because of a faulty wire so i know that these headphones will stay with me for life. The clarity of these headphones are the best. You can hear every detail of the song even when you put the volume down. Also they come with a year warranty which is better than any other headphones. "A note about their fit..." The sound on these headphones is fantastic. Everything about them is fantastic, as far as I'm concerned. There have been plenty (hundreds) of reviews thus far saying how great they are, and they're right! So instead of discussing the sound, I'll clear up a little disagreement about the fit of these headphones. A few people have said that they're uncomfortable, or that they crush their ears, but I think those people are wearing them wrong.... I have pretty big ears, so if the cups were too small, I'm pretty sure they'd hurt my ears too. But I discovered that the way you put them on makes a big difference. If you just put them straight onto your head, the cups will push on your ears a bit, and I can see how that would become uncomfortable after a while. But if you sort of shimmy them back and forth a little onto your ears when you put them on, so that the outer cartilage parts of your ears go INTO the cups, this will make for a MUCH more comfortable fit. I love these headphones, and I'm sure you will too. Hope this helps! "OK" I bought them based on the reviews on this site. I was struck by comments that said these were as good or better than the Bose phones. I really don't want to spend that kind of money and have them fall apart (from reviews on the Bose). These are very comfortable headphones. They do not block out much noise. I just used them on a transatlantic flight and was very unimpressed. I will continue to keep looking for something better. I would not but them if you was silence. "Absolutely The Best!!!" I've owned these headphones for one year. I'm a believer in giving a product a thorough trial before rating it. Simply stated, these are the best noise cancelling headphones for travellers that you can buy at any price. I fly about 80,000 miles per year. As you road warriors know, airplane noise and screaming nose miners can really grate on you during those 12 hour flights. These headphones greatly reduce these noises giving you a chance to read or sleep. I used the Bose several times as a freebie in Business Class, and although the noise cancelling is similar, the on-the-ear style makes your ears numb after several hours, requiring removal to regain the circulation in your ears. The over-the-ear type eliminate this discomfort and also reduces the non-steady (mindless conversation and kids screaming) noise that has become the norm on airplanes these days. Other Pros: Removable Wire Connection, Robust Carrying Case, Durability, Battery Life Cons: None I've recommended these to my international travel colleagues and all are grateful. You will be too!!!

What our customer's say! "Great headphones! Great price!", I have had these for almost a year and we really love them. I got them for my daughter who needs quiet to read. My husband uses them when he works at home. I use them when I cook dinner to listen to my music or a podcast. They really allow me to escape from kids bickering and music practice. These are so much more affordable than Bose and offer comparable quality. I have recommended them to many friends. "If only it cancelled jerks!", GREAT! I work in a building (military delpoyed overseas) with some sister service people and the stomp, slam doors and talk about things I'd rather not hear. From time to time they think I ignore them because I can't hear them talking! When on airplanes, these phones cancel the air, engine, and screaming baby noise to a tolerable level, and with music, these make traveling more peaceful. With noise cancellation engaged music levels don't have to be so high. Nuff said. "Good Headphones, Great Value", Headphones work great on an airplane. Remarkable improvement in enjoyment flying. Good sound quality albeit a bit flat with mediocre bass. There are probably better headphones on the market, but for this price they cannot be touched. Unless you have more money than sense, buy these instead of Sennheisers. Don't buy BOSE unless you are a sucker. "Awsome", These headphones are awsome. Cuts noise amazingly, and can be worn from Chicago to London without taking off, in complete comfort. These are my second pair. Very good, and well worth the money! "Excellent value vs. Bose", These headphones are a close second to the Bose noise cancelling headphones and, for the money, a better buy. In fact, I prefer these to the Bose because the Bose, while effective, gave me a weird "stuffy head" sensation whereas the AudioTechnica do not. I have recently used them on a commercial flight and they allowed me to listen to soft music easily. I also listened to several podcasts that I heard clearly (no small feat given my partial hearing loss!). I also use them daily during a 45 minute commute to work in a van pool. These phones are as comfortable as any I have tried and seem very well constructed. Note: While these headphones function in the non-sound cancelling mode, the quality of sound is definitely superior with sound cancelling turned on. The cable is detachable if you just want quiet and they come with a nice case and accessories. Great product! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Great unit for the price", Been using a Sony MDR-NC6 headphone for a while, and wasn't satisfied with the sound quality or the fact that it's just foam pressed against the ears rather than a set that surrounds the ear and helps seal out noise. The active noise cancelling on them also seemed to create as much noise as it hid. It did a decent job of hiding background noises, but also made its own little whining sound as well when turned on. These do a much better job of cancelling noise without any noise-making of their own. The sound is great, other than as another reviewer pointed out, the bass. It's not bad, it's better than most that I've used, but not the best. But that is about the only real downside, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Comfortable, the ear pieces pivot with some friction, so you can actually set them to a good angle and it will hold that even against some light pressure. The only other downside (but not bad enough to rate losing a star) is the size of the earcups. I They are high enough but I wish there were a little more room front to back. I don't have large ears, but I find the back of the ears is just a little squished under the padding, or else I just "tuck them in". All in all, a great product. Very happy with this purchase. "Made for small people", I've previously owned both the Bose QC2's, and the Logitech NC headphones, both of which were more comfortable than these. I'm a pretty big guy so the edges of the ear-covers still sit of top of my ears somewhat; so if you're somewhat big-headed (like me) I don't recommend these. The discomfort prevents me from wearing them for more than an hour or two at a time which is pretty annoying. About noise-bleeding that other people were talking about: If you listen at a normal volume someone in the next cubicle over won't be able to hear you. However, if you like to bump it, hope that your co-workers do too. The sturdy construction is nice. I had two QC2's break on me over 2 years and the logitechs also broke after a year. These will probably hold up much longer. "One of the best headphones, period", While I would not call myself an audiophile, I do appreciate a good sound system and a good pair of headphones- I have Sennheiser HD 570 for home, Sony MDR-G57 for workouts/walk in the rain, but always wanted a quality headphone that is portable yet blocks out the noise. A Shure E2C used to fill that niche until I broke it in an accident. Since then, I have been on the lookout for a brand new pair. I tried the Bose On-Ear Headphone at a local Best Buy, liked it enough and thought about buying it- until I found out the cost. Hey, I said I like a good pair of headphones, but I am not gonna spend half of what I did for my iPod! I briefly considered Sennheiser PX100 but thought it looked too flimsy and was doubtful on its noise-cancelling ability. By chance I stumbled upon a review of ATH-ANC7, which praised its quality on par with Bose QC2/3 yet at half the cost. It was enough for me to go out and buy this one, plus with Amazon I got a good deal. The Pros: Noise-cancelling. Even without its active noise-cancelling function on, the closed design of the headphones muffles out a lot of the outside noise. I wear this from time to time while I work, and even with the music off, I can barely make it out when people are yelling at me! With the noise-cancelling on, some of the louder stuff, such as coffee grinder in the background, road construction is barely noticeable- and I don't like to crank up my music to the max. Cord length. My HD 570 is a good pair of headphones, but its lengthy cord makes it unwieldy to carry around with my iPod. While the cord with this unit is a bit long, it's definitely manageable for carrying your audio player in the pocket. Sound quality. Sound quality wise, this easily trumps the stock iPod earphones, MDR-G57, and definitely comparable to E2C or HD 570. Comfort. I wear this around when I am out. It's big enough to be noticeable, but it's a slick pair, and I have great music, so who cares? Construction: While not as sturdy as MDR-G57, this is a pair that is solid in its built. Great for casual listening, and with its included carrying case, I can see this lasting a long while. Cons: The sound quality varies when the active noise-cancelling is toggled on/off, and you definitely get a louder/clearer sound when it's on. You can still listen to it without the function on, but I prefer having it on obviously- just make sure you have a rechargeable AAA battery for every week or so. I wouldn't consider my ears to be dumbo-sized- so if you have big ears, try them on, or consider other cans. My medium-sized ears gets warm after an hour or two, and if I don't position them right, it can be slightly uncomfortable. However, I still prefer this than the ear-rape sensation of E2c's. If you dig bass, then look for earphones that you find comfortable. While serviceable, you won't get the booms you are looking for. "Great sound, Good comfort but Sound leakage", Amazing noise cancelling, great sound quality but it's big problem is sound leakage. If it's not important issue ANC7 the best coice for you. "Noise reducing headphones", Excellent sound and comparable in ability to reduce noise when flying compared to the Bose at less than half the price. ![]() |
