"Super efficient water-heating pot", Heats water in a few seconds. Boils in about a minute. This has to be the most efficient, least-energy-used way to heat water with electricity. Safe because only glass and stainless steel touch the water. Directions say, put only water in it. But of course you can use it for tea, coffee, dish water!

"I love this kettle", I read through all the reviews but since I really like the style of this kettle, I decided I would order it and try it myself. I have been nothing but well pleased. It is true that the interior had a very displeasing smell (I think some people referred to it as a "chemical" smell), but after about 6 rounds of boiling water it has gone away and let me say that these 6 rounds of boiling water were used to make cups of tea with absolutely no bad taste to the water at all. When the water boils and I pour it into our teacups, I immediately empty the kettle, place it back on its base, and open the lid so the interior can dry out, which is does in a very short time. Then I close the lid. Again, I am pleased with this kettle. It boils the water VERY quickly, and I love to watch it. It also looks really smart on my countertop. If you really want this kettle, I suggest you try it out yourself.

"Good and Bad", I like the kettle except for the fact that the chrome on the lid has developed a bubble and so I am not sure that it is real chrome or just an overlay of some kind.

"plastic (maybe silicon) gasket/seal", I thought the other reviewers may have been too particular... and I'm getting tired of trying to find an electric tea kettle without plastic.. but they were right. the odor is very strong and that alone makes you wonder... what IS going into the water? so back it goes and my search continues. until I find that electric one, I waste energy using the ole fashion one on the burner...

"Excellent Performance", Capresso 259.03 H2O Plus Glass Water Kettle, Polished Chrome
A beautiful appliance that is as functional as it is attractive. The kettle heats a full pot to boiling within two minutes, turns itself off, and is pretty enough to leave out on the counter. I read other reviews stating that there was a wierd burnt plastic smell emitted with use - and it almost scared me off. However, I did not experience anything of the kind, I could not be happier with this appliance, and I use it every day. Great product!

dependable service. It can be cleaned without much fuss.
It offers safety in using, as it sits and heats on a plate, but
disconnects when pouring. I am very pleased with this product.

"Better Than Expected", Fortunately I had the opportunity to see this product in use at the home of a relative, which is how I learned about it. Initially I did hesitate purchasing in the kettle based mostly on criticism seen here regarding the claim of the kettle affecting the smell and taste of the water. However there was not even an initial incident of odor or altered taste to the water. If there ever was something wrong with the design, clearly it has been fixed. So don't let the naysayers dissuade you.

After purchase, the kettle actually exceeded my expectations, water boils very quickly and the design is sleek and attractive. I love the fact that the kettle is clear and provides a clear visual in terms of cleaning.

Lastly, the fact it has auto-shutoff as a safety feature is wonderful. As someone who has ruined several conventional stovetop kettles (whistle not working correctly or offering poor tone) I could not be happier. In fact, I plan to order another.

"I wanted to love this kettle...", This kettle was most highly reviewed in Cook's Illustrated, which has never steered me wrong with kitchen tool recommendations. I also had hoped that the reviews on Amazon that mentioned the chemical smell might have been a little overblown. However, they're true. I really loved the kettle design and functioning, but I think the rubber gasket on the base of the kettle is the culprit. Even when the water had cooled off and sat in the kettle for an hour or so, you can lift the lid and smell something vaguely like shower curtain liner. Serious bummer. For the folks at Capresso: replace that gasket with something hardier, and you'll rule the kettle world.

"FAST AND ATTRACTIVE IN THE KITCHEN", This kettle is great. 3 1/2 minutes for 5 cups of boiling water. Its also fun gazing at the liquid bubbles as they start to float off the metal dome in the bottom of the pot. I've had no problems with this pot including any smell or steam or pouring problems. A great high quality kettle.

No electric kettle in the U.S. will boil water as fast as those in the U.K....they have a different electrical supply system which generates power at a higher rate (their kettles can boil water in about 1-2 minutes)

Oh its also attractive on my counter.

"my second one", After years and years of hard use, my initial Capresso kettle had problem with the thermostat. I'll play with it when i find tim but in the meantime, I had to have another. I miss the shiny chrome finish on the original, but this does what it's supposed to do...heat water and automatically shut off. The fact that it's so pretty was a big selling feature.
