"Nice looking Kettle"
I am very satisfied with the performance of this kettle. It is very attractive and well made and performs flawlessly. Exterior does get hot when heating water as there is no insulation of the kettle body. However, the insulated handle allows handling of the hot kettle with little chance of suffering a burn. Should use the same precautions with regard to children that you would use with a coffee maker.

"Great at boiling water, but the design IS defective!"
Is this kettle dangerous?
Answer--It depends on how high you fill it.

The kettle works very well at boiling water. But it does get scalding hot, as other reviewers have pointed out.

The defect in this kettle is that the handle is so close to the body of the kettle and they skimped on the insulating material on the body near where the handle is. If you only fill it to 24 ounces or less--about half-way, it's not a problem. When you grab the handle, you won't touch anything else. But if you fill it to near its capacity, then you have to be careful. The thing gets fairly heavy and is not all that well balanced; when you grab the handle, the your hand may press against the body of the kettle or you may inadvertantly press your thumb against the kettle to steady it. The only thing that protects you then is a very narrow strip of rubber/plastic insulation on the outside of the body. If you're not paying attention--or maybe if you have a bad grip because of your age or physical condition or because your hands are greasy--you could easily find your hand pressing against the scalding metal and drop the whole thing.

The Breville and Braun kettles have handles that are disconnected from the body at the bottom so they don't pose this problem. Your hand naturally falls away from the body of those kettles. This Krups is great at boiling water but it could be dangerous for some people.

"Attractive great but ran through two in a year and a half"
The kettle is very attractive, heats water quickly, and unlike many other kettles on the market has no plastic or metal after taste. However, like other cordless electric kettles we have tried it won't last within a country mile of a coons age.

We have had two Krups kettles in the last year and a half. The base keeps going on the fritz. Our handyman said it is very cheaply made (he added, like other brands of electric kettles he has worked on.)

If it weren't for that darn base we would buy another one. . .

We continue our search.

"Flaulty Lid"
Krups FLF3 Stainless-Steel 54-Ounce Electric Kettle
I purchased a Krups SS Electric Kettle on October 2007 and after thirty days the lid would not unlock from the kettle. I contacted Krups Customer Service and they had never heard of this problem with the lid. The Customer Service representative even got a lid from their display to see how it worked. However, they could not find a reason for the difficulty. They told me to return it for a replacement at the store it was purchased. The replacement kettle was used for thirty days before the lid got stuck and would not come off. I now have a third kettle and hope this one will not have any problems. I like the kettle which does a great job boiling water. Maybe a third time is a charm. I would recommend a lid redesign. A simple lid without the current twist lid lock would solve this problem.

"White water rapid"
I've had other electric kettles, and this one is terrific. It is aesthetically pleasing, boils water quickly, is easy to handle....what more could you want?

What our customer's say!

"great product", First, it isn't as green as it looks. Second, it works great and does exactly what it is supposed to do. My wife used to boil her water for her tea in the microwave but knowing how inneficient that is I bought this for her. She loves it as it boils water very quickly and shuts itself off when reaching the boiling point. So if she is in a different part of the house she doesn't have to worry about the water.

"Two years and going strong - buying another", My wife and I bought our first electric kettle (this one) shortly after discovering such a thing existed (OK, we're slow learners) during a trip overseas.

We have used this kettle at least twice daily since then, and it is still going strong. I'm online to buy a second for a vacation place right now, and see that I could have saved myself $10 if I bought it online rather than in a store - such is life.

Anyway, I love this thing. As expected, it heats water quickly - duh. I guess it is a comment on consumer goods in general when I say "I am pleased" that in our two years of ownership I have had no problems with it - no leaks, no problems with the bast power element, zippo. It just does what it is supposed to when I ask it to.

Without being rude, I'm not sure whether some of the negative reviews on this unit have been written by actual owners: I see several people criticizing its features, design, and potential for problems, but the same people don't clearly state if they actually own one and if they have HAD a problem. No worries one way or the other, but from personal experience, this was a good buy, and I'm about to put my money where my mouth is and do it again.

"Doesn't Last", The tea pot was great. That is while it lasted. I bought the Krups stainless steel pot because I wanted a good quality product that would last for years. It lasted one year, that is all. The switch in the pot is bad. A friend bought one at the same time, her kettle is the black style, after a year it is starting to leak.
A disposable item. For a year they are great but then they die.

"Regular Tea drinker", Very good quality product.
The only problem I have with this product is that because it is made of metal it becomes very hot if you touch it after the water boiled.
Other tea kettles from Krups that are made of plastic do not get hot much.
Other than this the quality is excellent.

"love it", We use this 5 times a day and it works like a champ. It is sturdy and heats water quickly.

"review for Krups water heater", Beautiful product, but not well balanced. Must grasp low on handle to pour. Takes longer to turn off than I think it should. I like the way it opens for filling.

"Great product!", I have owned this for over a year. It's a great product-heats up in seconds! Everyone who uses it ends up buying one for themselves,

"15 months then it broke...", I had this tea kettle and although it was hot on the outside after boiling water (like my old stove-top one), I was pretty happy with it. Then after 15 months it stopped working. There's something wrong with the on-off switch or the way the lid connects and it will no longer boil. I talked to Krups to find out if it were fixable and it doesn't seem to be. The lack of longevity is very frustrating. I wish things were made better.

"Worked For 2 Months Then Broke", The Krups FLF3 Stainless-Steel 54-Ounce Electric Kettle worked for 2 months before the kettle's lid broke. The lid jammed onto the top of the kettle. Took some time to remove it.

I always hear that Krups have good designs. Guess it's marketing thing. Don't think I'll be a customer in their future.

"Kettle exceeds expectations", After narrowing our search down to three or four kettles, we started reading reviews. Some we dismissed, such as:

1. "The surface gets hot" Well of course it gets hot, it's full of boiling water. I can understand the concerns of persons with small children, however, and would recommend the plastic version for them. It should function just as well. Simply a matter of personal preference.

Other complaints cited were:

2. "The contacts failed on the base unit." I suspect this is the result of repeatedly lifting the kettle up while the heating element is on. This could cause arcing of the contacts and lead to premature failure. (This is true of any brand kettle. Leave it alone until it shuts off.)

3. "The cord is too short." The manufacturer provides a safe and ingenious way to eliminate excessive cord length. There is about four feet of cord coiled up inside the base. Just unroll however much you need.

4. "It leaks around the water level window." It may someday, but so far we have had absolutely no problem.

We have been totally satisfied with our unit. It works great. Heats water very quickly, is attractive, and easy to use and clean. We have encountered no problems at all. We highly recommend.
