"Seemed to good to be true...and it was!"
I bought the Eureka Capture six months ago and have regretted since the 3rd time I used it. The duster fails to pick up the dust. The hose will not stretch beyond its length, even though it claims you can leave the canister at the bottom of the stairs and stretch to the top. The power paw is a joke, I had to fasten a piece to the wand from my old vacuum just to clean the stairs and furniture. I constantly had to clean the filters. The roller would not roll right no matter what height carpet I set it for, and the bare floor cleaner just blows the dirt right back into your legs, ouch! Plus it always smelt as if the belt was burning up. I did not save the box, so I was out of luck for return. I finally got so mad with the vacuum, I let it "fall" down the stairs, and promptly told my husband to get the darn thing out of my sight. I'm going back to my simple, yet effective Dirt Devil.

"Eureka! Captured"
I love the Eureka Capture. Compared to the other brands I tried out, it by far picked up the most dirt. It picked up dirt I didn't know I had. Showed the Capture to a neighbor who bought one and she is raving how her carpet looks 3 shades lighter and the nap is back. This is a heavier vacumn than many, probably because of it's many features but the loop handle makes it easier to grip and won't slide out of your hand. The "paw" sounds like a jet engine and picks up hair and dust from the couches and chairs and tight areas. For the price I'm very impressed with this machine. My only petty complaint would be that it does not have a retractable cord and the utility holders should have been made of unbreakable plastic. All-in-all, a great vacumn.

"Happy then sad"
I bought this vacuum about 3 months ago and loved it. I have 2 dogs (short hair, but dogs nontheless.) I vacuumed with my old vacuum right before I bought this and was amazed at how much the Capture picked up that the other vacuum missed. The suction was great - at first. After using 2 times a week for about 5 weeks the belt broke. I went on-line trying to locate a belt (b/c they did not have it at the store where I purchased it) and read some terrible reviews. Yes, it is loud. Yes, the belt did break. Yes, you have to wash at least 2 filters after every use, but I still liked how much it picked up. I replaced the belt (with the closest I could find b/c I never could locate the correct belt)and continued to use it. Everything was great. About 2 weeks after replacing the belt, the "Power Paw" broke. Still OK- don't have to use that feature. Now, the whole thing clogs up and nothing goes into the canister. It all gets stick in or before the hose. I am really frustrated because I loved it so much at first and now I have to go buy another vacuum. I will do some research before my next purchase and keep the packaging longer than 30 days.

"Great for the price, nice features."
Considering the price of this unit I am impressed at the function and accessories that it came with. By far the best is the Power Paw, effectively eliminating the awkward task of cleaning stairs, a big plus in my book. The suction is also great, being able to get everything thats been thrown at it. I also like that is has rubber wheels, a nice thought of feature.

The downside is the weight of the unit. This vacuum is rather heavy althought it does not bother me. The major thing that bothered me is that I have had this unit for a week and have already broken a belt. It was completetly my fault though, since I sucked up a curtain.

Overall I recommend this as it is completely adequate relative to its price.

"horrible design"
As with other reviewers, I found that the belt breaks frequently. To make matters worse, belt replacement is a time consuming task after having to unscrew several difficult-to-reach screws and remove the entire bottom half of the vacuum. Further, the screw seatings are manufactured of a thin molded plastic (why not metal?), and after unscrewing and screwing the screws a couple times, the seatings eventually break off. Then you are left with a vacuum where you can't put the bottom half back on.

What our customer's say!

"Not worth 130.00", I was satisfied when I first bought this vacuum. It cleaned up my floor perfecty. Now, when I went to use the power paw it worked for about 10 min before it stopped working. The power paw is a joke. So I took apart the power paw to see if it was clogged. It wasnt. I cleaned it anyway and put it back together. It still didnt work. I finally got it to work 1 month later out of the blue. It worked for 5 min before it stopped working again. I have now given up on the power paw and it is in the garbage where it belongs. The hose gets clogged up easily and I have to unhook the hose and run water through it to get the clog out. The filters (yes there are 4 of them) are terrible to clean. Everytime you take them off (especially the one on top) dust flies everywhere. The mahcine is loud and heavy. The bottom flap (that I still don't understand) falls off all the time because it was only held on by a small spring.

Overall- It vacuums my floor. Everything else on this vacumm is a piece of junk.
Meets Expectations: I expected more. What a pile of junk.

Value: I wasted over $125.00 on the vacuum, I am not impressed.

Overall: If you enjoy throwing money away give it to me instead of wasting it on this wretched thing.

"I'd give it less than 1 star if I could!", HATE THIS VACUUM - The filters all clog up & are terrible to clean (the dust in the filters makes a muddy mess when you try to wash them). The suction is great, but not enough to make up for the 50 million pieces that you have to take apart to clean it. The self cleaning duster doesn't work and no one in the office knows where the "power paw" is because it doesn't stay put in the space near the handle. We've only had it a few months & are already looking for another vacuum.

"THIS IS THE WORST VACUUM I HAVE EVER OWNED", I bought the Eureka Capture Bagless in Nov. of 2007 and it is the worst vacuum I have ever owned. The Power Paw immediately stopped working. In March I took it to have the base and brush assembly replaced because it broke. Since then the plastic upper cord wrap has snapped off. It is now October and the base and brush assembly are broken AGAIN! Changing the belt is quite a chore on this vacuum but finding the appropriate belt is almost impossible...I still have never seen one in stock in any of the stores around here. Definitely not worth the aggravation!

"Broke After Only 5 Uses", I got this vacuum cleaner as a birthday present. Initially, I was very impressed with this vacuum cleaner - until it broke! After only 5 uses in my tiny apartment, it started to make an AWFUL noise whenever I turned it on. So, I took it to a repair shop shop and I was informed that the motor was burnt out because of fine dust particles. They asked me if I used carpet deodarizer - the answer was no, I have never used carpet deodarizer. Anyway, I was told it was going to cost $100.00 to repair, which I am not going to do. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. If you HAVE to buy it, get a long warranty.

"Eureka Capture Upright", I bought this vacuum from Lowes for 129.99. It looks nicer compared to some that I saw. First time turning it on, it seemed a little loud and sometimes gets annoying. It's also a bit on the heavy side and vaccuming the stairs was kind of a hassle. The suction is great as it picked up a lot of pet hair and dust my other vacuum won't. For the price, I don't think there are many out there that can do better. The attachments are useful. It's a great vacuum for the price!!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"capture more trouble than worth?", I bought this vacuum about 6 months ago. I have had 2 belts break already. I find this very frustrating in that I have never had a vacuum belt break on any of the previous vacuums I have owned, and replacing the belt is an annoying task. The machine does work great, when it is working. I have found that the spot the hose empties into becomes quite clogged and is hard to unclog. The machine is noisy. The fact that it needs to be cleaned after every use is just adding more work to my platter. I would really like to take it back, but am unsure if I can due to the length of time I have had it. I would not recommend this vacuum unless you don't mind the added work of cleaning the machine after every use and the fact that the belts are continually breaking.

"Bi-Polar Vac", One day this vac can be the best, the next the worst. At first I was really impressed with its performance, seemed to have great suction and the upholstery tool is great. Then the next time--sometimes mid chore, it gets noisy and performance drastically reduces. I read reviews to find out that the filters need to be washed FREQUENTLY...if you don't wash them after each use the dirt on bare floors shoots at your fee the entire time.

I like the machine when it works--but there's an awful lot of maintenance to keep it running well.

"Good vacuum just not the best", I gave this 4 stars because for the price I paid for it I think it works better than most.
I decided to buy a new vacuum when my hand-me-down Eureka stopped working. I think that vacuum is something like 10 years old and cost less than a hundred dollars so I knew the brand would last. When I got this vacuum home it certainly had a big job in front of it. With Christmas tree needles all over the floor I knew it would be a great test and this passed with flying colors!!! The carpet looks like it did the day I moved in. I did have a problem picking up the carpet deodorizer I use, I've started using less and that seems to take care of the problem.

The vacuum comes with a duster, paw, and of course a tube for ceiling and baseboard cleaning. I like the tube because it is clear so you can see any obstructions, this was a great idea!!! I have not had a chance to test the "paw" as they call it since I have no stairs, it seems to be a sturdy attachment but is slightly difficult to put back into place. The duster is good I suppose as far as dusters go. The ability to clean it in the vacuum is a big plus but it's much like any other dusting tool that doesn't use static to trap the dirt, it just spreads it around. The duster is slightly difficult to get in the correct position to make sure the cleaning feature works, it's also a bit flimsy. I will stick to my swiffer dusters, but it is a good idea. I have a small 1 bedroom apartment so the long cord, for me at least, is more of a hindrance than a help, I do however put it in the plus column because most people need a longer cord, it seems as though it would reach up or down an entire flight of stairs. I like the light on the machine as well, it's nice and bright. This is also a fairly attractive vacuum which is important to many people since storage space tends to be at a premium in most households and it's so convenient to be able to keep the vacuum out and ready for quick clean ups.

On the down side there are a lot of filters to clean and maintain, the bagless feature really should be able to be emptied from the bottom rather than the top, and the beater brush seems to get tangled with long hair. I also wish with such a long cord there was a retractable cord option. On the upside the beater brush is easy to clean with it does get tangled.

Bottom line: This is no Dyson but if you're looking in this price range you're not going to get all those features anyway. This is a good vacuum with attachments that are user friendly, the vacuum is easy to maneuver and picks up almost anything. You won't go wrong if you purchase this vacuum.

"Solid unit but Design Engineers were weak", The Capture is a good unit and it does a pretty good job! However my two complaints would be with the design. It seems that as long as Eureka has been designing vacuums they would know better. The first day I used the unit I did our entire house (4300 sq feet) and I caught a throw rug on our tile floor and bam snapped the belt! Wow. Never had that happen so quickly. Most vacuums would just whine until you stop. Well, luckily it comes with two belts so I replaced it. The next week my daughter was cleaning and bam another belt!! Jeez. I can see this is going to be happening a lot. The next issue would be with the hook for the power cord. It jets out way to far and if the handle isn't latched and falls to the floor - you guessed it, snap! There goes the cord wrap. Called Eureka and the woman said that they are aware of this design issue and it is a problem...nice. Don't ya think they would have tested the unit before going to market? Hello! Oh, and one other thing that is another bad design issue. When you are doing steps the place where you would grab at the front of the unit to hold it is useless. It's way to high towards the handle so you end up grabbing it at the filter vents and that blows hot air that gets quite hot. Other than those three things the unit is good. I suppose if you want a unit where the design engineers actually thought you should look at a Dyson. You'll pay for that of course so for the money the Capture is a good vacuum.

"Three kids 5, 3, & 1 -- so we have lots of messes! Great Vacuum!", I purchased the Capture for our new home almost 3 months ago.
Pro's: It is quite powerful and picks up a lot.
Con's: I have to wash the foam filter and premotor filter after each use and spent $7 to have spares of both of these so they can dry completely in between uses.
The filter screen is plastic, but still needs cleaned regularly. I also rinse out the canister after each time thru the house.

Even though the vacuum itself works very well, I think in order to keep it running great cleaning the filters & canister are essential!

I have wood floors in our home & the rubber wheels are great on it, it works very well on the hard surface. I barely ever get a broom out, it is easier to use this.

Well worth the money, would recommend!
