Others say...
"Great for tea bags or one cup coffee bags" I bought this to replace my old black n decker. The only good thing about the black n decker was that it included a metal cup. The hamilton beach breverage center is great with only one minor thing. The measuring tray is a great idea but I can never get the same amout of water in the tray. I really like the looks. It doesn't look like a coffe maker, people are unsure what is for at first. Great for the price. "Great if both of you can't decide on the same coffee" Let's say that you're addicted to full on caffeinated coffee, but it makes your husband shakey. You tried compromising, but that really didn't work for you. Here's what you do - you buy two of these little babies and you can each have a cup of your favorite coffee at the same time. Well, that's what we did. And both of them are working great! I rinse the permanent filters each time I use them, and every now and then I put them in the dishwasher. Yes, you can make hot chocolate, tea, coffee, hot water, etc with these. Really, it makes the hot water, and you let it pour over whatever flavor of stuff you like to drink and then dribble into your cup. Important notice - if you fill the reservoir up all the way, do not put a little cup under it. It doesn't know you didn't plan right, and it will overflow all over the place. And it's HOT! But - if you just had hot water in it, it will make a clean spot on the floor, which isn't always a bad thing. Anyway, this works really well. We've had them for about a year, and they're still going strong. "Great idea - bad engineering" The first one of these we had was great! My wife made her tea and I made my coffee with it, and it produced excellent results. That lasted for about 5 months. Then it started to just pop and steam without pumping any water. Thinking it needed descaling, I tried that - - several times to no avail. So I finally called Hamilton Beach customer support, and at their direction sent in the cut off plug of my broken unit and $6.95 s/h. After several weeks, I received the replacement unit. It worked exactly one time before the spitting and steaming took over. I called H-B again, and this time they shipped a replacement unit immediately at no cost. It worked for exactly 2 cups before the exact same problem. Obviously there is a major flaw in the design of the water heating/pumping. Wish it worked!!! "Nice idea but....." This is a nice idea but not worth it. It stopped working after the third use, however, KUDOS to Hamilton Beach - they replaced it without any problem. Item is large and takes up more counter space than I would like. I made coffee with it but the clean up is not worth using it for that. Even after getting the replacement, it now sits in my garage. I strongly suggest buying the Sunbeam HotShot, which works faster, is small and attractive and is a much better value. I actually had an older model and wound up replacing it with the newer model- should have done that first. Do check it out and consider it. "What isn't plastic? It's still easy to us & cost-effective" I bought this coffee/tea/hot water maker over the weekend. Although I've not used it long, I'm really beginning to like it. It's easy enough to use that my kids can heat water for hot chocolate or oatmeal. It's taken me a bit of time to adjust my coffee to the small size, but I never drank more than a 14 oz cup at a time anyway. Having been restaurant-trained in good coffee (coffee that sits for 20 minutes is stale and bitter), this appealed to me. I wish it brewed slightly hotter 175 - 180 is better. It seems to be pretty consistent at about 145. It does have a little tendency to drip & splash a bit as it brews, therefore, placement of your cup is important. If you need coffee for a get-together, this is not the thing to use!

What our customer's say! "Great Single serve option", I will have to qualify this review as someone who drinks mostly k-cups with a Keurig machine at work. This machine gets used very sparingly but when it does it makes a very good cup of copy. So good, I have gotten my mother in law to purchase one and her mother as well. We all love the fact that you can brew one cup of your favorite but vary the flavor of the next cup. Very versatile. "Four months and out", We had the black Hamilton Beach 42115 3-in-1 Hot-Beverage Center and enjoyed it for 4 months. It was just the right size for a cup of coffee or tea. But after four months it has stopped working (though we've followed all of the cleaning instructions). It will heat up for a while, and produce some steam, but little or no hot water/tea/coffee actually comes out of the nozzle any more. "Broken afert four cups!", Sounded great, a way to brew pods and ground coffee on the cheap. I literally brewed five successful cups of coffee with it. Now its a piece of junk. I think the pump may be broken, very little water makes it to the coffee grounds. I fill the reservoir with water and end up with half an ounce of liquid in the cup. Even when it was working, I considered it a very unsafe product. I burned myself a couple times with the escaping steam ( pretty bad rate when you consider it had five successful brews. Maybe I had a bad unit, but I'm just going to go with a more expensive one after I return this piece of junk. "What? You don't need 10 cups of coffee when you get up?", I have owned and used this product on a daily basis for almost 6 months now. If you're anything like me, you enjoy a cup of coffee to help wake up in the morning. Notice I didn't say 12, or 10, or 8, or 4, or even 2 cups. Is it really that crazy of an idea to have a cheap coffee maker that can make only the ONE cup you want to drink? I was writhing over reviews of the 2-cup/2-travel mug coffee makers and their problems when I found this one. My thoughts: Looks cheap. Price IS cheap. Must be cheap. But there's little else, so... I guess I'll try it. Needless to say, I have accepted this little guy into my family. Pros: -One cup, no waste. You can make a cup with 8 to 14 oz. of water measured in the creatively graduated water reservoir. You pour water in until you see the water touch the inverted steps for each size cup. This is very helpful in filling either a traditional coffee mug or a larger travel mug. You also use much less coffee (a tablespoon or two) per day, so your coffee will last longer. -Speaking of travel mugs... the slide-out pedestal for a mug can be removed or pushed in to allow more clearance for a travel mug. Otherwise the pedestal helps keep a mug close to eliminate any splashing. -Everything is washable. I simply dump out my grinds and rinse the basket and pour spout in the sink. Once every month or so I stick them in the dishwasher (with the pedestal, too). -Robust. Yeah, it's plastic, but it's no slouch. I use mine daily and haven't once felt like I was going to break anything. I keep mine next to the stove so it catches some splatter, and it wipes clean very easily. Cons -No timer. Not that I really need one, since it makes a cup in 2-3 minutes, but I guess some people really don't want to wait when they get up. All you do is push the button down, let it work, then it automatically shuts off. If you need to shut it off in the middle, though... be prepared to unplug it. That's your only option (even the manual says so). -Questionable permanent metal filter. My first couple weeks I felt like there was too much sediment in my coffee (you know, that texture that you get in the bottom of a big pot sometimes). I was pretty turned off by it, leaving the last few sips. The solution? Since they don't make paper filters that small, I just bought a pack of the traditional basket filters and cut out circles to fit. A pair of kitchen shears can do at least 20 at a time. Now I make my coffee with a paper filter inside the metal basket and voila--no more sediment! Hope that information helps. I don't review often, but I've recommended it to friends and felt like this would help the next person take the plunge. "So good I bought one for home and for work", I bought one of these for work and a more expensive model at home. I found that I liked this one better because it is not dependent on any size cup. The more expensive machine had to be used with the cups that came with it. This one has a stand for smaller cups and you can fit in taller cups without the stand. This is a great feature so the water doesn't splash as it drips. The water always comes out very hot and brews the coffee or tea perfectly. I really enjoy and recommend it. I ended up putting the more expensive one in the garage (the "garage sale" pile) and getting another one of these for home! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Bargain Price, Quality Purchase", This is a fantastic product! I have had this product for about 9 months and I use it to make my morning coffee every day. It is easy and fast to use. It is ideal for living in a college dorm because it allows me to make hot water for other food items as well. My only possible complaint is that although the wire mesh filter is handy because it never needs to be replaced, I found that it let some coffee grounds through. #1 size coffee filters work well in addition to the permanent filter. They can be bought at most grocery stores. Despite my one complaint, this product has been extremely reliable and considering the price, it simply cannot be beat. "I'm a coffee snob and love this thing", I wanted a small coffee maker I could leave at the office for my personal use. I like coffee at 2 or 3 in the afternoon but no one else does. So rather than waste a whole pot for one cup I got this little gadget and it's great. I was very skeptical at first because I'm an admitted coffee snob. I removed the included permanent metal filter (too much sediment gets through) but instead use a #2 coffee filter in place of it simply folded over the filter basket which gives me a cleanly brewed cup. The water reservoir is not accurate in measuring water so "calibrate" appropriately. My 14oz from a measuring cup measured 10oz in the reservoir, but basically I use 14oz of water to 3 tablespoons of grounds for a drip brew method (don't grind any finer for this machine or you'll get mud). After experimenting and getting the ratio of water/coffee right, it rivals any automatic drip coffee maker I've ever used. It makes great tea too! If you have problems getting it right have some patience and try experimenting with different water/coffee ratios. You'll get it right soon enough. "My new favorite kitchen appliance!", Someone on the message board I frequent was raving about this so I decided to pick it up with a gift certificate. An excellent choice! In about the time it would normally take for me to heat up my water in the microwave, I have fully brewed tea! I can also use my loose tea without first putting it into a container to brew it in the mug and not worry about floaters. If I want it double strength, no problem! Not only tea, but coffee as well because I can grind it and just put it in the filtered basket. I've even used just the hot water feature to make some cocoa and it works great as well. As a PSA I did pick up a small packet of coffee pods to try and while it brews them just fine, the coffee is nasty. The only downside is that I have a couple of pretty big mugs that it can't fill up due to the water tank capacity. However, it does do a larger coffee mug just fine. I like it so much, I think I need to pick this up for a friend for Giftmas! "Near perfect", Couldn't be easier. Hot, Fast and you can make the coffee to your liking. The plastic thing is not worth mentioning. Even power tools are made out of plastic these days. I see no problems with the reusable filter. Just glad it's there. Nothing worse than running out of filters or pods when you want or need a cup of coffee. So far I love this thing. Only draw back is it wasn't free. "Works like a charm.", Works great, put in cold water and get hot water. only thing is you get all the water you put in, so be careful to not fill it with too much water. The power cord is extremely short ![]() |
