"Makes excellent coffee"
This coffee maker makes excellent coffee with most brands of coffee. I like to be able to set the cup amount, depending if someone is using cream or not. It is somewhat noisy as others have said, but is not as bad as some single cup makers that I have had. I removed the tray that the cup sets on. Eliminated a lot of the noise, and you really don't need it. You save money by only making one cup as you need it, and not a whole pot. For guests that drink regular and/or decafe, it saves a lot of wasted coffee.

"Bad start to what should be a good start to your day!"
The first product I got was faulty - Which was of course a pain as you have to pack uvery thing up in the box which of course never fits like when you first take it out etc.. Amazon did replace the item and the new one works fine - Yes it's a tad noisy and yes it does vibrate the cup away. Two minor points really. I enjoy using my own coffee rather than the pods which is why i chose this item. Very annoying big sticker on the front advertising coffee etc -Almost impossible to get off....

"Too fragile for every day use."
My husband makes 2 cups every morning and on the weekends he has been known to make up to 5. After a month of using this machine the sensor stopped detecting the brew basket and we would have to slide the basket in and out until the machine detected the basket, there were even times that we had to turn the machine off to get it working again. Another problem was the noise that it would make, it is very loud. My husband greatly disliked this coffee maker. The coffee maker is a great looking machine but in no way is it an every day tool. If your looking for a single serve, I would suggest the Senseo.

"good coffie"
Ive had it for a couple of months and the price has come down a bit. It is a little noisy but doesnt seem to bother anyone. Put a little silicone on the cup holder and the cup wont vibrate around. The coffie is great. Ive also put tea bags in and it seems to work great. the main thing is the machine looks good and my wife lets me leave it out!

"Really like it, and its not THAT noisy"
Just got this coffee maker this weekend. After reading other reviews I was a bit worried about it being noisy. Its only been two days, but I don't consider this machine to be noisy. My Senseo was noisier, so is the microwave and dishwasher. Grinding beans is MUCH louder than this machine operating.

I love that this machine can take coffee pods (not K-cups) and regular ground coffee. I hate flavors but can have flavored pods on-hand for others. I also think pods are the 'greener' environmentally responsible way to go than K-cups.

Love that you can brew different strengths (regular/ strong) and different amounts of coffee (4-12 oz). It has a large water reservoir and this great perk: it adapts easily for a tall travel mug (something my Senseo couldn't do).

What our customer's say!

"I Love my Cup-o-matic coffeemaker!", I love my new cuisinart coffeemaker. I received it in just a few days after ordering and have used it every day since. I like that is uses pods or grinds and you can select the strength and size of cup you want. The large reservoir makes it easy to make 1 cup after another. I use pods for daily hot coffee to take to work and ginds to make ice coffee. It is somewhat noisy but so was my Home Cafe by Black N Decker. (It went into the trash the day I received my Cup-O-Matic). I love that it will accomadate my 12oz travel mug,if you remove the drip tray. I make 2-12oz cups back to back for work every day.(Beats the awful coffe at work). It is easy to clean the piston after using grinds. I like that is also has a water filter in the reservoir, for better tasting coffee. It is so easy to use and would recommend it to everyone. It is the best coffeemaker I've owned and well worth the price. Excellant service from the seller and Amazon.

"Defective Product- Twice", I purchased this coffee maker in October 2007. I'm on my second machine and it just went down again! The first defect was in the track that holds the brew cup. This time it appears the piston that pushes the pod down has locked up. I'm very disappointed in their quality. It makes a great cup of coffee, but as the other reviews stated, it's also very noisy. I don't mind the noise but it's garbage as far as workmanship. And as everyone else has stated, their customer service is useless!

"Cup-O-Matic is a really general-purpose coffee maker.", So far (1 month) this machine is everything I had hoped it would be, and even more than I expected. I'm a real coffee nut: grind my own, often roast my own, have had a auto-drip and pressure espresso machine sitting side by side for the past 10 years. I've been able to retire them and replace both with the Cup-o-matic. I've brewed coffee every way there is (except Turkish), and in my opinion, this machine can replace all the other methods, and improve on most, if it is used with some imagination.

I went uptown yesterday to try an espresso at an Itallian Espresso/Gelato cafe, just to see if I could later reproduce the flavor with my Cup-O-Matic; pretty close, except for the crema. Of course I do have my own pump espresso machine for comparison, but I wanted to compare with a "professional product." You can use an espresso grind in this machine, but you have to be sure to keep it away from the bottom of the basket with either a filter paper, a coffee pod, or a layer of medium to medium-fine ground coffee. There are also devices you can purchase (through Amazon) to enable you to fill pods with your own choice of coffee brand, blend, and grind; they work well in this machine too. I made my favorable comparison with Italian espresso using a couple of pods of Molto Espresso Roast (purchased through Amazon)brewed with 4 ounces of water.

What is missing with this machine is a book of instructions sufficient to introduce new users to the many various ways to use this machine to produce an international array of hot coffee drinks. It is not the simple "turn key" operation the existing instructions imply. For example, by using two pods (or ground equivalent) of a fine espresso coffee type, and only 4 ounces of water, you can actually get a cup of real-tasting espresso in 20 seconds.

For larger drinks, the water tends to get too hot, and the extraction runs too long for some tastes; so even for a 12 ounce cup of coffee, you might want to run only 8 ounces through the grounds and then add 4 ounces of hot water. There are many other ways to use the Cup-O-Matic to produce perfectly tailored coffee drinks.

The noise is nothing compared to a pump espresso maker.

"Terrible product, Terrible customer service", I had this for 2 months when the sensor intermittently stopped recognizing the brew cup. I called customer service and was told a replacement was being sent out. A few weeks later I called Cuisinart to let them know it hadn't arrived and was told that it was backordered and someone should have told me that. Wait a few more weeks, still no cup, called back angry, was promised a new machine. One month later, no machine. Called back told oops, it was on backorder, but it's back in stock now, will send it out ASAP 2nd Day Air if possible. Today, 10 days later, no machine. Called customer service--oops order system was down, but we're now processing the order, I should have the new machine in 2-21/2 weeks....not holding my breath. So, it is a noisy unreliable coffee maker. When it functions it does make good coffee especially with the Lavazza pods. But, this brewcup problem is clearly a big issue and with the horrendous warranty/customer service department you're spending $200 or more for what turned out to be just 2 months worth of coffee. I really DON'T recommend this product.

"Very disappointed", Cuisinart SS-1 Cup-O-Matic Single Serve Coffeemaker, Black and Brushed Chrome

Despite the mixed reviews of this machine, it interested me because it allows you to use your own ground beans. The price, however, seemed excessive. But when Macy's had them on clearance sale for $90, I bit. Big mistake! The priming, the noise and vibrations didn't bother me (actually it seemed very exciting, a big production in process). But then the machine would suddenly stop brewing about two tablespoons of coffee (which tasted great), then blink and beep until I would be forced to turn it off and start all over. After three tries, each time with fresh coffee, I would eventually get a full cup of coffee, but one which was always lukewarm and not at all robust (even on Bold setting). I went through this numerous times, always with the same result: after 3 tries, a cup of unsatisfactory coffee. I returned the machine.....even at $90, it's no bargain. What is up with Cuisinart? I see why Macy's is clearing them out.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"It's so good, she has a second cup every day...", I bought this for my girlfriend a month ago. Every morning she would stop at Dunkin Donuts for coffee on the way to work. She never carries any money, so she would take mine to pay for her coffee. I read this machine would give her great coffee for less $$$ per cup.

She loves it! When she comes downstairs in the morning, she hits the brew button, finishes getting ready, grabs her travel mug, and off she goes. When she gets home, before she sets the machine up for tomorrow morning's cup, she makes her second cup of the day!

"Love it but have one concern. Anyone else?", The machine is great, the coffee is terrific. One concern: the brew cup oxidized after 2 months, turning nearly black. The filter itself, surely stainless steel, is fine, but the outer cup is black and makes me wonder if base-metal or lead is used. While the water passing through doesn't necessarily touch the outer brew up, it's at the least unsightly, and possibly of some concern. Anyone else?

"Good Coffee with Pods...but...", I once owned a Senseo, however, I bought the Cuisinart because it said you can use ground coffee versus the pods.

I have tried 3 times to use ground coffee, and each time it's given me an 'error beep.' I attempted to troubleshoot the problem--once was my error--but the other 2 times I did nothing wrong.

I am disappointed because I have wasted some quality gourmet coffee. However, I have contacted Cuisinart and am awaiting a response.

I can ignore the other beeps and shaking of the machine, since the Senseo did the same; and it does make excellent coffee with the pods [I'm still using my remaining Senseo ones!].

"Great Alternative though pricey to other pod coffee makers", The prime reason I purchased this was the simple ability to use grounds as well as pods. My wife and I have grown accustomed to pods since the first Senseo came out and we were sent a Media Sample. We loved it.
But the downfall was eventually running out of pods, even when we bought 4 4pack boxes from Amazon. Yes we love coffee. So when I saw this I was intrigued.

As for the sound, I will tell you this if you own a Senseo, it sounds relatively close as far as noise level to a Senseo Coffee maker. The only difference is when you choose Bold setting, instead of a constant buzz, you will get a buzz, buzz, buzz pulsing. Also you get a added whir of gearing sound at the start of and end of cycle. This is the sound of the plunger going down on the pod or grounds. Priming is not different than the Senseo. Takes a while for the first time.

Now here is a part of taking good with the bad. It takes longer after each cycle vs the senseo to make another cup. Also When off and you start up it take appox 2 mins or so for it to be ready as opposed to Senseos a min appox. Now I say it's bad because I was used to the relative quickness of the senseo. But here is possibly where it's good. The coffee is always hot, even after adding creamer. Whereas using my Senseo it would come out barely hot and adding creamer made it lukewarm. This was even when I waited a extra minute or so after being ready.

Interestingly the pods taste better in the SS-1 than in the Senseo. No I don't use the charcoal filter. I already have filtered water in my house.
I like the ability to make a variety of size cups from 4 to 12oz and reg or bold. Plus the ability to brew directly in my travel cup. Instead of in a cup large enough then transferring to the travel cup the Senseo way.

Now the bad. It drips when warming up. Can it be a bad model? Does anyone else SS-1 do this. I don't mean trickle but a couple of drips. I've gotten around this by putting in new pods or ground before turning it on.

Sure it is prob one of the more expensive pod coffee makers but it's does make a good cup of coffee. Now I can go back and forth depending on my laziness between pods or grounds. Did I mention the pretty blue lights for the buttons. BTW the beeping isn't that loud. It's on par with any other kitchen appliance.

I want to add the water resevoir is much larger than even the extra large water resevoir that I bought as a option for Senseo. Where I used to get appox 6 cups ( those large cups not the small senseo marked ones ) I get appox 10 cups with the Cuisinart.

"Loud and Vibrates!", I was very excited to get this coffeemaker, the reviews were great!

I can't tell you how disappointed I was upon first trying it. You need to prime it first, it pulls the water all through. Ok, great. It started, and while it's pulling the water in or what not, the whole unit vibrates so much and so loudly that my mug slid from the center of the drip tray clear to the edge of it!!

In addition, due to the loudness of the unit, you can't have a regular conversation while it's going.

I tried one of the decaf pods that came with it, and it was ok, but it sure gave me new appreciation for my simple organic decaf coffee with my little 4-cup regular maker! I returned this unit.

Very disappointing - especially from Cuisinart!
