Others say...

"Extremely fragile, lasted a nano second in my home."
These mugs arrived save and sound but within days each had shattered. The concept is great but I didn't find them the least bit practical.

"Great mugs if they stop breaking"
I originally ordered 2 sets. I have just requested a third replacement set. These mugs are wonderful when they aren't breaking, or losing integrity, forming condensation between the walls. Amazon and product packaging were good, and Amazon has been quick to replace the broken/defective mugs each time. It is frustrating to have to keep requesting replacements.

That being said, the mugs do a good job of keeping my coffee or tea hot. And seeing the liquid appear to 'float' is very cool.

I have 2 Bodum French presses, made with the borosilicate glass, and have never had problems with breakage.

**Update** 21 September 2008
I received 2 more sets of these mugs for my birthday, and so far, all four mugs have survived. The glass itself seems a slight bit thicker than that of the original 3 sets.

"unintelligent packing/shipping"
Mine also came broken. Amazon consistently sends items in a much bigger outer carton but they place it on that carton's floor and pack lots of cushioning on top of it. The package doesn't rattle, but it does not come close to being protected. Top that off with UPS seldom delivering an undamaged carton, the smaller and the heavier ones getting the most mishandled.

"Great Cup"
I'm drinking my morning coffee out of it as I write this review. I had no delivery problems and does keep my drinks warmer without worrying about water rings on furniture due to condensation. A little pricey, but hey coffee and tea taste best out of glass. Also my clunky hand can easily fit three fingers into the handle.

"Not very durable"
I see others had shipping problems. My problem was not with the Amazon shipment. The cups were received fine. I got the cups out of the packaging and treated them with the utmost care. The first drink I put into it the interior wall on the bottom cracked. I contacted the manufacturer, no warranty. They responded not to let ice hit the bottom of the cup. These glasses are more museum piece than functional glassware.

What our customer's say!

"Keeps the hot stuff hot, and the cool stuff cool", I ordered a set of two... and two arrived unbroken! Excellent!
I have other bodum double-wall glasses, and they work suprisingly well. Only one Bodum glass has been broken so far, and that's when my mom dropped an ice cube into the glass. oops.

Not only do they look cool as can be, but they insulate well. Being hand blown, they are not identical (the inside base is not at the same height in both glasses). Really, that's the only negative I can come up with. Highly recommended.

"Excellent cup for keeping drinks hot/cold.", Good qualities: craftsmanship and materials. The cups are much lighter than one would expect and I really like the see-through characteristic. They are also very rugged and easily cleaned.
Negative quality: Barely worth noting and probably more of a personal feel; I would have liked a thinner lip to them.

"more shipping problems", I too received the initial shipment of shattered glass, as well as a replacement shipment of shattered glass. Insufficient (one-sided) packaging both times.

Like another reviewer, they told me to throw away the first shipment, which I did... Hopefully they won't be coming back asking for it at some later point.

They're asking for the second box of shattered glass back, um - ok, gladly. :)

The smaller Bodum glasses without handles seem much sturdier.

"glassware", While I love the product (or the idea of the product), they are just too delicate!

"Horrible Experience", I ordered this item, as a birthday gift, on July 4th. It had a guaranteed delivery date between July 11th-July 16th (at the latest.) I NEVER even received my product. The birthday gift was null and void. I called amazon, they told me to email the seller- which i did, and i never was contacted back. Basically, i was completely ignored. So, i called amazon back- they told me to wait 3 days to file a formal complaint. I filed my complaint, and now i have to wait 1-2 weeks while they investigate the problem before they refund my money. So- order this product if you want to spend 50 bucks and you'll never see the product- and you want to wait a month to get any kind of refund.

"Cool... but broke in a day", Title says it all. The cool factor is really high. I also was impressed with how hot it keeps my drinks, but I broke it the first day I had it at work. I washed it and was walking down the hall and it "brushed" against the wall and shattered into pieces. I know it was my fault completely, but a porcelain mug would have never broken if that happened. Just something to keep in mind.

Also, the first set that was shipped from Amazon arrived in pieces. The return process was great, but I just think that it serves as more evidence on how flimsy these guys are.

It even says in the instructions that if putting in a dishwasher make sure you don't put it next to any other glass objects. I thought that one was funny as well. :)

"Very fragile. Arrived broken.", I would advice against buying these. They work great but are extremely fragile. One arrived shattered. The other broke with a few days even with very careful handling. Maybe the smaller ones are stronger. Otherwise something very wrong with the design of this product.

"great product, extremely disappointing shipping", I bought these for my husband for Christmas, and the first set arrived completely shattered (very badly packed). We sent them back, and the second set was again badly packed (exactly the same way, even though I wrote and spoke to someone about it) and broken as a result. Amazon refused to send us a new set, as apparently the limit on returns is two, so now I have to find them somewhere else, where the company knows how to pack fragile objects. Very disappointed with Amazon's service, but the product is great--it keeps coffee hot for hours, even in really cold weather.

"Nice mugs - but they need better packaging from Amazon", I like the look and feel of these mugs. My morning coffee looks like it's floating in mid-air, although I can't say that it stays hot any longer than in any other type of glass/ceramic mug. The glass itself is so thin it's like drinking out of a Christmas ornament, so although borosilicate glass is supposedly highly resistant to sudden changes in heat, I am not about to try running these through a dishwasher.

And like just about all other reviews, I received a broken mug in my package of two. But unlike other people's experience, Amazon was quick to send out a replacement set (kudos to Amazon! - perhaps they're getting good at sending out replacements on this product). One mug was also broken in the replacement package, so it took Amazon sending me two packages of two mugs apiece in order for me to get an intact set of two. Amazon needs to pay better attention to how they package these things. Their shipping boxes have plenty of room to protect these mugs from impacts on all four side, but they aren't deep enough to protect these extrememly fragile mugs from impacts to the top or bottom.

"Mugs are great, Amazon is awful", I ordered these mugs. They arrived broken. I contacted Amazon, and Amazon apologized. They told me not to return the broken glasses, probably because glass shards are not really useful to anyone and might hurt people in the returns warehouse. Amazon then helpfully sent out a replacement order, overnight express.

The next part is where Amazon gets schizo on me.

Weeks later, I get an email from Amazon informing me that they haven't received my return (duh, they told me not to return it. I still have the email). Amazon cheerfully informs me that if they don't get the original order back, they're going to yank money out of my bank account.

In a perverse twist, their email didn't include any reply-to address. I had to wade through the Amazon web site to find a place to contact them. I explained the situation, quoted their original email, and asked if they'd still like their shards of glass back or not.

It's been over a month, and no reply to my message. It gets better.

I get another email from Amazon. "Great," I think to myself, "They finally got around to responding."

Hah, not even close. No, the next robot-generated email from Amazon just explains that they still haven't received the return from the original order (the one they told me *not* to return). This being the case, they're now helping themselves to money from my bank account.

I was about to vomit with rage at this point. I bit my tongue and wrote another message via the support section at the Amazon web site (again including obvious details like the original order number, etc.) It's been two weeks and no reply. I was floored. Amazon is either completely clueless and is dropping support requests on the floor, or they're maliciously ignoring my requests for help so they can keep my $29.95. Those are my options: Amazon is either incompetent or malicious. Sigh.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was some shady retailer, but this was Amazon that I bought from. I've done tons of business with here, but this is such an appalling pattern of errors, failures, and lack of attention that I am going to have to cancel my account.

So don't buy these mugs, or anything else from Amazon.
