Others say...
"Great replacement and costs less than the GE" I bought this because of Brita's name recognition and that it was cheaper than the original GE filter. As others have said it may be just a little slower flow than the GE, but it's hardly noticable. "Works Just Fine" I have replaced my filter twice already and am looking for a third (4th if you count the one the frig came with). First replacement was with the GE filter and second was with this Brita. I never noticed any slow flows or louder than normal sounds. Water doesn't taste any better or worse than with the GE filter. I stumbled accross these reviews looking for another replacement. I think I will go back to a GE model just to try and make another comparison. This review probably isn't that helpful except to say that the thing worked fine for me. I have had the GE brand filter in for a while now and it is definitely true that the Brita filter flows noticeably slower. Still can't taste any difference in water. In the future I will go with whichever one I find is the cheapest. "OK Filter" The Brita filter fit fine. I agree with other users who said that the flow was reduced, but a few more seconds per glass at most. I did not experience any noise difference. If you fill up the filter COMPLETELY prior to installation, it gets the water out and eliminates the noise (I learned that on the last OEM filter that I installed). "Does the job just fine" I bought a 3 pack as a replacement for the GE filters, the filter fit just fine and the water flow is just like the GE filter, no problems at all, and saved a few dollars. "Returned, Don't buy" Flow was painfully slow. Noise/vibrations shook the house. I only gave it a 1, since it did fit. I called Brita, they said on average their filter took 1 min longer to fill an 8oz glass than the OEM filter. This was expected. They said the noise is because it has air in it and it is supposed to sound like that. They sent me a return postage for a full refund.

Fridge Filters offers this stuff with condition New, new for:
What our customer's say! "Works great and it's cheaper", You wouldn't think installing a water filter in a refrigerator is rocket science but apparently some people have had trouble with these filters. We use them and haven't had any trouble. If you follow the instructions you won't have any either. They're pretty straightforward: - Fill the new filter with water. Tap the sides of the filter and add water if necessary, until the bubbles stop coming up. - After the new filter is installed, run the water dispenser for 3 minutes. It's that simple. We still get a few minor sputters after running the dispenser but that goes away quickly. The flow doesn't seem any less than through a new GE filter and the water tastes fine. To remember when to change it write the date on the filter with a permanent marker after the filter's installed (so you can see the date clearly). "Makes water taste better less cost than GE", We buy this for our GE fridge because the actual GE filters are expensive...this works just as well and costs less. Makes our water taste so much better! "Slow and short life", I have used many GE filters for my fridge and my experiance is that our active family consumes a filter every 4 months. By consumes I mean that the filter becomes too slow to be practical to use. I bought two of the Brita filters to try them out recently. I just replaced the first after only 1 month. It was slower than the GE product on day 1. This may mean that it is filtering more but the cost $300+ per year and the wait make it impractical. I am tring my second Brita and if my experiance with that one is greatly different I will revise my review. In the meantime I will be ordering some GE filters to have on hand for the next change. "A note on filter changes, read the instructions!", The individuals complaining about reduced flow/noise most likely incorrectly installed the filter cartridge. The directions state the the filter must be filled with water before being installed. This step eliminates the problems with air in the lines and a "buzzing" sound that are being reported. The Brita filter, so far as I can tell, is identical in every way to the OEM, and does exactly the same job, a few dollars cheaper. "Exactly the same as the GE MWF", I decided to replace the original filter on my GE refrigerator after about 10 months when the "change filter" light came on. I went to the local hardware store and found a replacement for $49 plus tax. It seemed expensive, so I decided to check Amazon instead and found these along with the OEM GE filters. I was reluctant to try a filter other than the GE just to save a few bucks, but if they are identical, why waste money? Besides, Brita is probably better known than GE for filters. Anyway, the filter looks, fits and works just like the original. I have noticed no difference in water flow or noise. The water tastes clean and looks clear. One note - as per the instructions you should pre-fill the filter at the tap before installation and then run about 10 glasses of water through the new filter before use to stabilize the flow. As for the vendor - Fridge Filters, I found that you cannot track their packages online as you can with most things purchased from Amazon, but the filter arrived in Florida 4 days after my order was placed. I gave the product and the vendor 5 stars, not that I get particularly excited about a water filter, but there were no negatives to take a star away. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Great tasting water", Fits perfectly in my GE refrigerator. Water taste is great. Saves me some money compared to the OEM replacement. "Not Sure About Replacement", I was looking for a cheaper alternative to the GE MWF. This would have been the first replacement of the filter. I was too short to put it in myself, so had my male friend do it for me. I'm not sure if he did something wrong - I thought it was working fine. Later that evening the fridge was "buzzing" louder than it usually did. When I opened the freezer half, there was a giant icicle inside that I tried to break off with a wooden spoon. That was difficult, and has happened apparently every time the ice machine does its thing. Of course the fridge stated to not use anything but their GE brand. I wish I hadn't tried this replacement filter. I'm giving it a 3 because the water tastes great! I just don't know what to do about all that dripping water. :-( (FYI, the Amazon seller was a 5!) "Not compatible", I ended up returning Brita filters because they didn't work. I purchased the actual GE Smart filters instead. "works as promised", these filters do a perfect job of replacing the GE MWF water filters for my fridge, and there was a nice $$$ savings as well ![]() |
