Others say...
"Unimpressed" For what this unit costs, I'm not impressed. The coffee pot is so poorly designed it's hard to get coffee out of it. It pours super slow and because of the design, it's darn near impossible to get the last of the coffee out. Also the cover that goes over the filter says to "line up arrows" but it shifts when you go to close the door. It sometimes makes a horrible mess in there I assume because the top shifted but I can only keep my finger there holding it in place for so long. "This coffee pot is great, but watch who you buy it through...." I have this coffe pot and love it!! But I sent one to my sister for her birthday and the grind mechanism failed to attach.I contacted the seller that was on Amazon and no response!! They're policy for returns is to send the item back and they would investigate the coffee pot. If they determined that it was faulty...THEN..they would consider replacing it!! Come on!!! My sister had just got her's out of the box and attempted to use it!! I contacted Amazon and they gave me a big run around!! Not normal for AMAZON...as I have purchased from them for many years and had NO problems!!! BE CAREFUL!!!! I ended up in a screaming match with the AMAZON representative. They finally said they would return my money within 2 weeks and to go ahead and order my sister another coffee pot!! It was ridiculous!!! The coffee pot makes great coffee!! But, make sure AMAZON will back up the merchandise, if not don't buy it from them. Purchase from your local dealer, so you can get a NO HASSLE return.. "Grinder Died" This unit had great promise. (purchased from Dependable Resourses through Amazon.) The reviews were in many cases good and the bad ones seemed to be things that were of a personal nature or needed a better reading of the instructions. I got this coffee maker for my wife as a mother's day gift, the kids being long gone with their own children. The first use on that Sun morning went very well after some rereading of the book. The comments elsewhere in this forum about the carafe are true. It seems cheap and the lid never seals completely, as is found in other makes such as Black & Decker which is threaded and remains screwed tightly down and fully seated until unscrewed 1/2 turn to pour, and it must indeed be turned upside down to get the last cup or two out. The hopper is indeed a thing to be secured with care, as it has two small pins and holes which must align in order to seat and lock properly, and the grind is more course then we would use normally. These things were MINOR compare with the second attempt to make a pot Sun evening. The grinder ( also see May 7, 2008 review) would turn but NOTHING would go down the chute to the basket. Repeated attempts with careful cleaning to be sure there were no bits blocking any passage (even used the air gun on my compressor) would not make the grinder grind beans and send ground coffee to be brewed. After wasting 1/4 lb of Starbucks beans I gave up. Called the mangf. Mon AM and described the problem and was told the unit was DEFECTIVE and to contact the seller and return the unit. I contacted Dependable Resourse, relayed Cuisinart's instructions, and got a RA #. I repacked the unit as it was shipped and sent it with tracking, requesting a replacement as I hoped the failure was a fluke, and the first pot had gone well and tasted fine. They received it on 5/19/08 and thus far I have NOT heard a word from Dependable and it is now the 27th. I will update this review IF and when we have a unit to review that works more than one time, until then save your money or be sure to seat the hopper and wear a glove when you pour the last cups of coffee. "This is the best one we have owned." We have had several different brands of grind and brew coffee makers. This is the first one that I am completely pleased with. It is easy to program, easy to clean, and makes excellent coffee. For those who have complained about the coffee being too strong or suggest that it uses too many coffee beans, you can adjust it to get the perfect cup. It will run through 12 cups of water regardless of how many you set the dial for. We set the dial for 4 cups and on medium strength, but put in 12 cups of water. This makes it just right for us. You just have to manipulate the amount of beans by using the dial, the amount of water and programmed strength to get it to your taste. "Mmmmm......fresh-ground coffee!" We've had this coffeemaker for a little over a month now and we love it! It looks great, is easy to program, and the thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. (I made my coffee yesterday at 6:00am and then came home and grabbed another cup around 11:00am....the coffee was still steaming hot!) You can adjust the grind and the amount of coffee to suit your taste. We use the gold filter so the coffee is stronger but, for a 12-cup pot, we use the medium grind and the 8-cup setting to compensate. Everyday cleaning is a breeze. I just dump the grounds and wash the filter and basket cover. About once a week, depending upon how many pots we make (generally 7-10), the coffee chute needs to be cleaned. If it isn't cleaned, residue builds up and it gets blocked. I just remove the basket cover (leaving the filter and basket in place), take off the hopper, open the little trap door, and sweep the fine grounds into the filter using the supplied brush. I only keep enough beans for the week in the hopper. When the beans are gone, it's time to clean the chute. Overall, we're extremely happy with with coffeemaker!

What our customer's say! "Great cup of coffee", We bought this coffee maker to replace the older version Cuisinart Grind & Brew. Some notable improvements: - carafe does not leak. The old version would spill EVERY time we poured a cup of coffee. This version does pour slowly, as some reviewers have complained about, but does not spill. You also do need to take off the lid for the last cup, but I still consider that a great improvement. - The bean holder/grinding mechanism doesn't need to be cleaned after every pot. We've only had the coffee maker a month, but have not had to do any maintenance cleaning on it get. - quieter grind doesn't jar you awake before the fresh cup of coffee helps ease you into the morning. The coffee is pretty strong, but you can adjust that by using more water than you set to grind. Not a big issue since we like strong coffee. Overall a big improvement over the old version and the coffee tastes great. "Buy locally cause you'll probably want to return it", I have returned 2 of the 700 series w/ glass decanter within 1 week, such as heat plate not working, grinder not working. This 700 is a learning experience, rinse out the basket and spin thingy, place back in the coffee maker wet, and coffee grounds get wet, never make it through the tunnel to the basket, and you will get hot water only. Next, make a total mess taking everything apart, unclog the wet coffee grounds and beans, make another huge mess, cuss, and wish you could grab the idiot who designed this. This has happened 3 times in less than a week before I found out to dry everything out the night b4, or you'll be sorry. Sorry design & engineering, IMHO! "Grinder defective, AGAIN", Well, I did not buy this from Amazon, but I wanted to share my experience with it. I bought this pot back in October from Bed Bath and Beyond. I did not use the grind feature every day, just mostly on weekends, for most of its short life. The grinder ceased function in April, about 6 months of use. Now, I should have known this was going to happen, because a friend of mine had gone through two of them, then went back to the one without the bean hopper, for the same reason. She got hers about a year before me and from a different state. Well, I took it back and they gave me an even exchange. BBB couldn't have been better about it. Anyway, I have had that one for a month and this morning the grinder broke again. It gets a weak and pathetic sound and then you get dirty water out of it because the beans are not being ground. I have never been particularly happy with the way the pot pours, it spills all over when you get to the bottom and the easiest remedy is to take the lid off to pour. I am very disappointed because I do like the machine, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have to take it back every couple of months! "Easy to use, makes great coffee.", I was slightly sceptical of this machine after reading some of the negative reviews, but I'm liking it better every day. Controls and settings are simple, straightforward and intuitive. The grinder seems to be top notch, producing nicely consistent grounds. I burned my tongue on my first sip, so unless you're some kind of heat freak, I think the coffee will be plenty hot enough. And just to compare, I made a pot of coffee this morning using previously ground coffee instead of whole beans. There really is no comparison. There is something mellow and smooth about a freshly ground bean that is like nothing else. And how much easier could it get? Put your freshly roasted beans in the hopper the night before, add the water, and set the timer. Personally, I hate the sound of alarm clocks, but I love waking up to the sound of this machine grinding away so I can stagger to the kitchen and enjoy top notch coffee before I'm even fully awake. "Overpriced and Flawed", After having a $30 coffee maker for the last 7 years. I bought the Cuisinart maker, expecting good results. Nothing farther from the truth. The carafe is slow pouring and spills when pouring. When changing the coffee filter, the filter basket cover holds residual hot water spilling on you and the counter. The coffee taste was no better than the old coffee maker. Save your money. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "A great coffee maker", We debated getting this version or the lower model and are very happy we chose this one. the bean capacity is better, which means you don't have to pour in more beans every day. Any negative reviews are by pessimists. This is very easy to use and the coffee comes out great. Plus, it looks really good on the counter, when compared to the bulky and strange alternatives in the grind and brew category. Couldn't be happier. "Great grind and brew!", great product. I have been using it for 2 months now and love the ease of operation, and taste of the coffee. It does require you to clean the unit at least once a week, but as long as you do that there will be no problems. It is really nice not having to measure coffee any more. "skeptical at first, but very satisfied now", I read reviews on many different websites, and compared several different models before buying. The main issues with this model that are hit so negatively on some reviews, also seem to be the same issues hit on positively in others -- in other words, there seems to be an even 50-50 split on the same issues, not much middle ground. So, I took a gamble, bought it, took many, many "tests" using it, and finally have decided I am satisfied with my purchase (it's been a few months already). There is a noticeable difference between the mild, medium, and strong. Brew temperature for smaller amounts (4-6 cups) comes to only about 187-190 degrees (recommended is around 200+). For a full pot, it finishes the brew cycle at about 196-197 degrees. The more water you brew, the hotter it gets (it seems to get hotter the longer it brews). I rarely preheat the carafe, and typically always brew 6 cups at a time. Time after time, the initial coffee temperature inside the carafe immediately after brewing, is around 168 degrees -- cooler than recommended, but still a little too hot to drink. (If you brew more, it gets hotter, if you brew less, it doesn't heat up as much). It does maintain a hot temperature for a longer time even if I don't preheat it. If you preheat the carafe, it does keep it even hotter. Another main point is the grind size. It is a little coarser than what I am used to. HOWEVER, this type of grinder doesn't continually grind the same bean over and over and over. Coffee beans are fed into a funnel-design, through the burr grinder, and into the basket. It grinds optimally for this machine. If it ground any finer, it would clog the chute and gum up the grinder. It is fine enough, though, that it gives full flavor. It does seem to use more beans than I'm used to -- but not so much that it bothers me or seems too expensive. An odd concern I had was that a metal carafe would give a metallic taste to the coffee -- which is actually a common problem with insulated mugs and thermoses, in my experience. This carafe did seem to taint the coffee taste initially, but the more I've used it, the less noticeable it's become. It kinda wore off I guess, with use. Anyway, it does not seem to be metallic-tasting at all now. I think it's like new plastic devices -- they always smell strong when you open the box, but after you wash and use them, they don't smell anymore. It is a little awkward to pour -- solve the problem by grabbing the carafe handle at it's base. Cleaning -- VERY easy. Has not spilled over, moisture does NOT get into the upper areas such as grinder and hopper (the older model 600BC had a HUGE problem with that). Very easy, quick, and efficient. All in all, every concern I had was answered very positively. No complaints at all. Hopefully it will last for a long time. But, with a 3 year factory warranty, it should be just fine. :) "The Grinder Died", I bought this item from Williams Sonoma and luckily kept the receipt. First, a section of the basket which holds the filter (the base with the spring) came un-done and the next week, approximately 7 months after purchase, the grinder died. I returned the product to Williams Sonoma with the intention to just have it replaced (thinking that I just got a lemon) but the sales person said that in 6 months she personally has processed 5 other returns of this item and all for the same reason - Death of the grinder. I truly loved this mache and was disappointed that such a costly machine lasted only 7 months. "Kudos to Cuisinart", This is the third grind-and-brew machine that I've owned (Melitta Mill & Brew, Capresso 455) and I also tried an earlier Cuisinart Grind and Brew 5 years ago that horrified me with it's bad coffee. While this machine isn't perfect, the quirks are minor and easy to work around. The footprint is relatively small on the counter, although you should measure the distance between your counter top and any overhead wall cabinets to make sure it will fit as (like all the grind and brews) it's rather tall. The carafe is an amazing 12 cup capacity and the construction of the body appears to be real stainless. It does a decent job keeping the coffee hot although after an hour it will start to cool; a small thing compared to over-cooking the coffee on a warming plate for an hour. It is difficult to pour, although I've learned to aim for the side of the cup rather than the middle. Another trade off for being able to keep the lid in one position for both brewing and pouring; another workaround is to remove the lid for pouring. As other reviewers have stated, it took some trying to get the bean hopper to lock into place. Hopefully over time I'll figure out the trick to it. Since there are a number of plastic parts that need to fit just right in order for the machine to function properly, I've decided not to put any of them in the dishwasher and risk having them warp. I haven't had any issues with the amount of beans to use, but that's probably because I was already using a lot to make my coffee very strong. All the controls are right on the front of the machine so it's easy to make per-pot changes. Now that I've got it figured out I simply put in the beans and water and press on. I'm a tough customer when it comes to coffeemakers and I'm very happy. ![]() |
