"Nice enough coffee maker but horrible carafe"
I purchased this coffee maker a couple of months ago from another retailer for about $50-55. We liked the coffee maker and the front water access but the carafe broke after just a couple of months of usage. It had not been dropped nor exposed to temperature extremes; it simply broke apart when I was rinsing it with water so I feel the carafe was poorly made. After looking all over the place for a replacement carafe for this model, I e-mailed DeLonghi; that failed because I received a permanent error for their e-mail. I then called DeLonghi customer service who initially told me the price for the carafe with shipping would be $44.90 but the rep then spoke with someone else who said they could ship it for $20.95. Since I expect the second carafe to break after a short period of use as well, I am not going to pay almost half the cost of the coffee maker for just the carafe (which you seem to only be able to obtain by calling them since it is not even available on their own website). I am instead going to purchase a new coffee maker and will never buy another DeLonghi product since it would be such a hassle/expense to replace their poorly made carafe.

"NOT WORTH IT!"
I bought this coffee maker about 4 months ago and it is already in the garbage. After the first month coffee would slowly come out of the carafe around the silver strip near the bottom and get on the burner and the smell of burnt coffe would fill the house. Then this weekend as I was filling the carafe with water it cracked. Carafe's online are $20 + shipping. NOT WORTH IT! So, I went out and bought a Cuisnart Coffee on Demand 12 cup programmable coffee maker and so far it is wonderful! Flavorful and hot coffee and even better there is no carafe to worry with!!!

"Warning: Avoid this model--it died after 40 days"
Summary: it died after 40 days.

I did my homework before picking this one, relying a lot on other reviewers' comments. I concede that the pour-from-the-front feature was appealing, but after getting the machine, I realized that it's not such a great design. Because the water channels through this front access swing-out arm, it's very difficult to REMOVE unwanted water, not to mention grounds that somehow end up in the reservoir. When I used a flashlight to examine the reservoir, I was appalled at how scummy it was, even after only a few weeks' usage.

The digital clock is terribly clumsy. To set the clock or brew time, you must hold down a single button until it reaches the desired time. The brew time defaults to 6AM, so if you want to set it for 5AM, you must cycle through 23 hours of counting.....and if you want to change it for the weekend, it's very awkward. Hey, this is 2008! Can't you do better than this, DeLonghi? This is a stone-age digital clock!

But the bottom line was simply this: the heating element stopped working after only 40 days of use. That's simply not acceptable. In the past, a coffeemaker could be expected to last for many years of daily use. Sadly, none of the "imported" coffeemakers I've tried recently can match that performance. This model was an exceptional failure.

"Great product"
The swing out top is very convenient so now we don't have to slide the entire coffee maker out just to put water and coffee grounds in it.

What our customer's say!

"DeLonghi front-load coffee pot", We really like this coffee pot. The front load access for both water and coffee grounds means no sliding the pot in and out of its place on the kitchen counter. The pot had a defect, however. Coffee would drip down the lever at the back that released the coffee from the basket and sizzle on the hot plate, making a mess. We called DeLonghi at the 800-number in the booklet and they admitted to a design defect that had been corrected in newer models. They said to cut off the last 2-inches of the power cord, send it to them, and they'd send out a new pot. We have about a 30-day wait as the inventory is back ordered. Guess we'll know more when we get the replacement pot.

"MAKES A GREAT CUP OF COFFEE", Got this coffee maker a few days ago. Makes a Great Cup of coffee. The timer could be a little bit easier to use but it is functional. The coffee is nice and hot. The pull out front access was not an issue for my use. The design is real immpresive. Love the permanent filter. Don't have to worry about ever running out of the paper ones. Very satisfied!!!

"Let me Java it", The reason I am very satisfied with this coffeemaker is that I can pour water into the reservoir without moving the machine. Just swing open the funnel-like door and pour water into it. It is very convenient and also will save the rubber shoes under the coffeemaker from wearing out when sliding the machine back and forth into place, which you have to do with other machines that have the fliptop reservoir. I also like the 'Aroma' selection that makes the coffee brew slower and tastier. Overall, I am very satisfied with this coffeemaker.

"Great coffeemaker!", This coffeemaker is a great one for kitchens without a lot of counter space. It fits perfectly under my cupboards. The front access is wonderful and there are never any spills to clean up. It makes great coffee, too!

"Excellent coffeemaker", Love the front access. It's so convenient. Also comes with a permanent filter, so there's no need to buy paper filters. I'm happy with my purchase.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"BROKEN AGAIN!", Bought it in December- it broke in January. Delonghi was very good at replacing it, just cut the cord and send it back- less $7.50 s+h. It's
now July and it's broke again... should I give it another try? The nice feature of being able to swing the front open to pour in the water, much easier than lifting the top and pouring it in. If only it wouldn't break again. ugh!

"Great Value and quality for the price", I read the reviews and did a little research on my own and decided to buy this machine based on past experience with DeLonghi. The coffee is more than hot enough, especially if you use the cup warmer. The time to make the coffee is fine under normal mode and does take quite some time when you use the aroma setting, but it is worth the wait and if you dont want to wait around just set the timer. The pull out design is wonderful and I havent spilled any water since we started using. For those who want stronger coffee take out the enclosed filter basket (which is sized for just enough coffee)and put in a standard paper filter, there is plenty of room to add even the Starbucks recommended amount. Replacement carafes, I have seen them as low as $ 15.00 on Amazon. Bottom line, I am very pleased.

"Great coffeemaker", i got in shipped and delivered in record time, it is a fantastic coffee maker, got it to replace old coffee maker, i love it, works great, and coffee is plenty hot for me so no complaints

"Exactly what I needed!", We were looking for a good inexpensive coffee maker to replace one that broke on us. The DeLonghi was a great fit. Really convenient is the front loading feature. We have placed the coffee maker on our counter top but under a cupboard. The front loading makes it easier for us as we do not have to pull the machine out to prepare it.

Excellent product.

"Not bad, not for coffee lovers either", If you're not a coffee connoisseur, this will more than meet your needs. It's for people used to the taste you get from a Mr. Coffee or a Black & Decker. The design makes for easy use and it performs admirably. But I returned mine because I like the deep, strong flavor that higher-end machines like Breville, Capresso, and Jura deliver. The basket filter (rather than cone), temperature, and lack of a more advanced brewing system deliver a taste that's OK, but not great. Still, if you're looking for a well-designed coffee maker that's easy to use, DeLonghi delivers.
