"Good stuff"
I like this product. I've had it for about 6 months. It does a good job for the most part. Like others have mentioned, the handle is definately not good quality. I am not rough with it but I can feel it move and flex and it makes me nervous it's going to break. I HATE that it only comes with 2 pads. I use it on 3 rooms and you need a pad a room for sure. They are easy to clean though which I like. I just saw it advertised with 5 pads at BJ's Wholesale, so if you haven't gotten one yet, try there! And you really have to wet the pad before you use it. Otherwise, it's hard to push around. I think if you have a big house this is not for you. I have 3 relatively small rooms I use this on and it works good. Good luck!

"What You Need To Know Before You Buy This Mop"
I will start off by saying that this mop is useful to some degree and it can be kind of "fun" to use, but many of the reviews about the following are accurate (I've used the mop on my vinyl and tile floors): the mop can be hard to push which causes the extension to bend and seem like it could break - if you are not careful it probably could. You have to continually pump the mop to get a good stream of steam going (which does help the mop move better). I have not had luck with the mop picking up stubborn sticky things on the floor or deep down dirt. The pads are hard to clean and they easily pick up lint. The floors seem to get cleaned from the center of the pad only (the sides not so much). The reservoir is quite small so I found that I was refilling it after every room I did (aprx. 10 x 10 room). I purchased this mop because I really wanted to clean the groves and uneven surfaces of my floors without all the hassle of a mop and bucket. It also happened to be on sale and it came with the hand steamer which isn't worth a lick. I really wanted to use that on the hard to clean surfaces of my large shower (around the door tracks for example), but it simply doesn't cut it. No power, hard to handle, awkward and all it does is barely push dirt around. You're better off without that one. Good luck!

"Not happy at all."
I purchased this product after watching the demonstration on T.V. Thoroughly impressed, I ordered the item the same day. Easy to assemble, but after that completely non-functional.

The heater on the unit seems to be working, but no steam is emitted. I called the manufacturer and followed their recommendations, but it still didn't work. I spent close to an hour trying to fix the mop. I returned the item, and after this experience wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.

This item got one star because I couldn't rate it any lower. It would have been a 0 if it could have been.

The only bright side to this review is the ease - of - use of Amazon.Com's return policy. I am very happy with that.

"Shark Steam Mop"
I have hardwood floors and ceramic tile. It seems that no matter what products I have used in the past, I cannot bring that new, shiny and sheak look, like you get when you first buy your floors.

I can only rate this steam mop at a 3. The reason for this is simple. It does clean on the surface dust and dirt. It does generate steam after you pump the handle a few times. The overall effect is this:

Hardwood floors - it will not ruin it. I've been told many times that water is the best way to clean hardwood floors. So, the steam works, but it will not leave a shiny, sleak look. It does generate a small dull shine, but I can do that myself by getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing my heart out.

Ceramic tile - yes, it cleans it...but leaves a dull, bleak finish. I still have to get on my hands and knees and smooth the dullness away to bring a shine. That to me, is not worth the money.

"Not worth the money, commercials are misleading"
We purchased this product for our ceramic floor with the belief it would get the job done. We were pleased with the long cord and how fast it produced steam. However, our love of this product ended there. It cleaned the surface dirt but pushed the rest into the crevices in the floor. It does not clean hard to reach places either.
We have only had The Shark for about 7 months and today while cleaning the kitchen floor the handle broke right in two. I was not using heavy pressure but the long handle is very flimsy plastic and just snapped. There are many other products like this and I would recommend one of those rather than this thing. Not worth the money at all!

What our customer's say!

"Super Easy to Use", I've spent (wasted) a lot of money on various things to keep my wood floors clean but this one is a keeper. Shipped quickly, easy to put together, ready to use almost instantly, does a fantastic job with little effort. Oh, and weighs almost nothing so it's easy to get up and down stairs.

"Doesn't Clean Grout Well, Pad isn't big enough...dont waste $", got a great deal on it. decided to try on my tile floor...it got hot, but not nearly as hot as it probably should, lots of dirt on the pad but it got so soaked w/ water that it couldnt pick anything up anymore...got half a room done and had to stop to wash and dry the pad. overall waste of money, yeah it got up alot of dirt...but it was not worth it. Also having to push down on it to get the steam out really hurts after a while. dont waste your money.

"Disappointed after a year ", I received this product for a Christmas gift in 2007. I absolutely loved it at first. I have all hardwood in my house, and I had been cleaning it on my hands and knees forever. This product was great and cut my cleaning time in half. You do have to vacuum first, but you do with a regular mop as well. As you push forward, you get a steam from the bottom of the mop, and you really feel that your floor is sterilized, which is good when you have a toddler. After using the product for about 9 months at least twice a week (following the directions carefully), the mop began to spit and either produce too much steam or no steam. I finally contacted customer service and was surprized to find they outsourced customer service to INDIA! It was extremely frusterating! After about 1 hour on the phone trying to communicate and answer endless irrelavant questions, I was told to pay for shipping to Pine, NC and send $9.95 return shipping and they would rebuild my product. I figure if it's going to cost me $20 to refurbish this mop, and because they are outsourcing, I will just buy a different brand.

"Shark Mop", After using a regular mop on my travertine floors I was desperate for something easier to use. Unfortunately, I found this product to be a complete waste of money. I immediately found it does not produce the amount of steam advertised. In fact, it hardly produces any steam. It left streaks, even though I mopped over it 3 times and changed the pad. I do not recommend this product except for small areas and perhaps for linoleum floors that are coated.

"Removes dirt from floor very well.", Does not get corners at all. You need to mop back and forth. If you go sideways it feels as if the handle will break.

"Shark Steam Mop will not ruin your floors.", If you have a concern that the Shark Steam Mop may ruin your floors, set that fear aside. It will not ruin your floors because it does not generate enough steam to clean them, much less ruin them. I sent mine back and am waiting to see if they really do honor their money back guarentee. I feel that the steam mop is probably a good idea if you can find one that generates sufficient steam. I gave a rating of one star only because the program would not let me rate it at NO STARS which is what it deserves.

"Stopped working after 6 weeks", I was really happy with this product, until it spontaneously stopped working after only 6 weeks of use. I called the company, who said I would have to ship it back to them for inspection. They also said I'd have to include a check for $9 to cover the cost of shipping it back to me after the inspection. OF course, the cost of shipping (mine and theirs) is about 1/3 the cost of the product itself. In short, I was very disappointed with this item and would not recommend that anyone else purchase it.

"Replaces mopping, not vacuuming", I have had this product for about 6 months, and I use it at least once or twice a week on a laminate (hardwood style) kitchen floor of about 10' x 16'. I have two cats, a one year old, and a husband of average cleanliness.

PROS:
I have found that it not only replaces my mop, but it actually does a
better job than my previous mop did. The microfiber head has a good sense of friction and traction for scrubbing up bits of dirt and dried mystery spills. The sense of resistance against of the floor makes me feel like it is scrubbing well. And the black dirt that I see on the mophead is plenty of evidence.

The steam comes out with every push forward, and it loosens up grime on the floor. It is user friendly and there are no buttons or switches to worry about. Just plud it in and go.

The microfiber heads are so easy to put on and take off. Just velcro! Also, the microfiber heads are machine washable, which is great.

CONS:
Microfiber heads are expensive. I made the mistake of putting two into the dryer, and the quality of the fibers has gone down. I would follow the instructions carefully for maintenance of those heads. Otherwise, they work great and I love them.

Refilling the reservoir may be necessary. I go over my kitchen twice during one mop session, and sometimes I need to refill the reservoir. If I have been mopping for some time, the head does get soaked with water, and may need to be changed for a dry one. But this is not unexpected as it is described in the manual. I don't mind switching heads or refilling the reservoir.

OTHER THOUGHTS:
People have complained about the "flimsy" stick. I haven't had any problems with it. While it doesn't feel particularly solid, I am not at all concerned that it will break. I think that it is lightweight and comfortable for me to use.

This will not replace vacuuming. If anything, you need to vacuum before using the steam mop. People complain about a line of dirt, and that is simply because this is a mop, and not a vacuum. If you have loose dirt or dust on your floor, it will help to vacuum first. I hate cleaning so much that we have a Roomba that vacuums daily to help get rid of crumbs and cat hairs. This way, when I mop, there are no crumbs to deal with, and I can concentrate on just scrubbing grime. As with traditional mops, I recommend doing a quick vacuum before using the steam mop.

All in all, I love this steam mop. It has been a life saver, especially with a toddler in the house. It is fast and easy to use for a working mom. It is expensive, so I hope that it remains durable. Like I said, I've had it for about siz months, and used it at least weekly.

And, finally, when I am done using the steam mop, I feel that the kitchen floor is really CLEAN. Bottom line.

"awesome ", this was everything the ad said it would be.
not as sturdy as i expected but really does the job well
works almost effortlessly
only one annoying problem i have to deal with is the cord - you have to hold it up or else it gets steamed with the floor

"Good Little Mop for Ceramic Tile - No Streaking!", I've had this mop for a few weeks now. I purchased it because I have a "high maintenance floor." My floors are smooth light ceramic tile ...shows every bit of dirt and scuffs AND every cleaner I try leaves streaks. My floor is also slippery as ice when wet and the tiles are beveled so water tends to accumulate in the grout. Prior to this mop, I was using the Swiffer and scrubbing on my hands and knees. My floors had to be dried by hand to avoid both streaks and falls. The Shark mop is working out great, but does have a few drawbacks.

Pros: I do not have to wash my high gloss high streak floors on my hands and knees anymore for everyday cleaning or wipe them dry to avoid slips. It DOES virtually dry completely as you mop. It is very lightweight and has a nice long cord. I was able to clean all my ceramic tile and wood floors with just one refill of the water tank as well (approx 1200 SF). Scuffs and dirt come up very easily. Did not leave streaks and any little reamaining water dried up - evaporated very quickly. The mop got up much more dirt that other methods left behind and the floors tend to stay clean longer as no chemical residue. The other pro is that I easily went from ceramic tile to hardwood floors (red oak) and it worked great on the wood floors as well - even better than on the ceramic tile. I purchased a "Delux Model" which is the same as this mop - only that it came with 5 replacement pads. The pads ARE reusable and mine came out like new after a short hand wash with Tide liquid detergent and a simple air dry. I would not put them in the wash machine or dryer as may wear out or shrink more quickly (see manufacturer's guidelines on cleaning the pads).

Cons: The first time I used the mop, I think I was pushing on it too hard - as the more you "pump" the handle, the more steam comes out and the more damp the pad gets. If your pad gets too wet, simply put on the replacement pad that comes with and that problem is solved. If your floors are very dusty/dirty, as the pad gets full of dirt, it may leave a line of dirt as one reviewer noted, he would bend over and wipe it up. The instructions say to vacuum or sweep your floors prior to using. I found that this was only necessary if my floors were very dirty. If you change out your pads while cleaning, this will help too and is not really an issue then. If you have "slippery" floors when wet, you still have to be careful until any water from the steam evaporates, but as you get the hang of using this mop, I found that I have very little water on the floors and dries almost instantly.

I am giving this mop 4 Stars instead of 5 because with my ceramic beveled tile, it did leave in some areas a little water. For best results, you also need to change the pad to a dry/clean one once or twice while cleaning depending on how large of an area you are cleaning (I do my whole home at one time). For wood floors though, this worked just like in the comercial. I did not have any water remaining on my wood floor and it did dry "instantly." For my hard to manage ceramic tile, this mop is the best product out of all the products I have tried.
