"Perfect"
I've had this laptop for 7 months now and would not exchange it for any other model. Looks beautiful, specs are good. The first thing I did when I bought this was reinstall Vista, minus all the Sony bloatware. Somebody else said that they only got 174 GB out of the 200 that they should have got. That is because there is a hidden partition containing the recovery data. You can burn recovery DVDs and claim that space again safely.

"How did this get 4/5 stars????"
PROS: Size, light weight, fast (if you install a new operating system)

CONS: Battery doesn't last more than an hour if you're using the computer for anything other than typing a paper. Not sure what the light is for... Comes with Vista. Keyboard is hard to use. My thumbs hit the touchpad while typing and it causes the cursor to jump. VERY annoying. XP drivers are incomplete and no support for Vista 64bit or XP 64bit. Speakers are crap.

THOUGHTS: I've had this laptop for 6months now. I started to get the blue screen of death with Vista every time the computer would come out of hibernation. This prompted me to install XP. I now have no sound and none of my keyboard function keys work.

It has a great feel when you're at the store trying to size it up against other laptops, but when it comes to getting work done and using it daily, it doesn't cut it.

UPDATE: Sony updated the BIOS and their XP drivers work now. Battery life is a lot better with XP installed. Still trying to figure out how to disable the light on the front and get the function keys to work.

"Worst Computer Ever."
I have owned this computer for less than 6 months and in the past 6 months three things have broken. First the left click broke, I sent the computer into Sony and they replaced it. A few months later my computer turned off and would not power on. I sent the computer to Sony and they replaced my motherboard. A week after receiving the computer back my screen started to malfunction. There was a dotted line that would appear and blink then go away for a few seconds only to return again. I called up Sony support and as I was on the phone with them my screen began to fade completely to white then flash back to normal than fade to white again. Now I have sent it back to them again for another repair. Two major repairs in less than 6 months is ridiculous.

"Bloatware"
Contains unnecessary software, or bloatware, that slows up startup and consumes memory. "Spy Sweeper" is the most annoying.

"Great for hwat is has and a good price for a Sony"
I didn't buy it online I went to a Best Buy before Christmas and paid under $1000 for a new one and it was a gift of which I have used allot thus why I am providing this review.

I see varying reviews on the pre configd computer that was/is sold at many chain stores and online last year and into earlier this year as new models of these are out that are faster and cheaper. This machine for what it has works great and at a decent price for Sony as they are like Dell, usually more costly for similar products by HP and others. Go test drive one at a Best Buy or other electronics chains and or even buy one and just make sure you know the return policy in case you don't like and want to return it. I like the colors too, not important at all but a nice option if you want some specific color.

What our customer's say!

"I was suduced by the chrome and the blue. ", I wouldn't purchase a Sony Vaio ... no I wouldn't purchase Sony toothbrush after my experience with this machine.

Pro: Beautifully built and seems to be good hardware.
Con: You want service? Forget it.
Con: You want to be rescued from Vista? Forget it.
Con: Sony has gone to the DARK SIDE in "partnering" with M$. Not that they have a choice, they don't. M$ doesn't "partner". They know only one thing: a bigger pile of money is better than a smaller pile of money.

Here's my nightmare: So, my Sony Viao VGN-CR220E had a disk failure. I purchased a new drive and additional memory while I was at it. Can't say I loved the Vista thing, I'd prefer XP or Linux. The hardware is beautiful and that is the end of things beautiful. I looked around for hours trying to find my install cds and just couldn't find them. Took it back to where I purchased it and they taught me a few things:
1. I don't own the Vista Home whatever that was pre-installed.
2. I can upgrade to Vista Ultimate for $219.
3. I can't purchase the original install disks because it's already been installed.
4. I can buy a new Vista Home whatever for $320.
5. M$ is a 'one time only' install. You better make the "recovery disks" early in the game.
6. I can't upgrade (I do mean "upgrade") to XP because Sony willl not provide the key drivers like ethernet adapter etc. but they will provide most of the other stuff..... even though Sony and M$ claim to support XP.
7. I'm lucky to have this Vaio because the new ones comming out will be manufactured so that XP, Linux, Ubuntu, etc. will not run and if they did it voids the warranty.

I have to agree with some of the others. I'll install Ubuntu and get a life.

The difference between the Vaio and the autistic child is clear. The difference between Vista on a Sony Vaio running and extortion, breech of contract, deceptive sales practices, anti-trust violations, etc. is not so clear.

"Buy a Mac", We bought this sony with high hopes but were quickly disappointed. I don't understand why all Microsoft software is such garbage. Just one example. My daughter and I went to watch a DVD last night (enemy of the state) and the video comes up with a 2 inch wide black box all the way around it in full screen mode. We searched all the preferences and quickly found that we could set the movie to play at 1.4X the normal speed THIS IS HANDY!! The 7 band graphic equalizer was also easy to find, great feature on a laptop that has microscopic speakers that barely put out enough sound to drown out the background noise in an empty library at 2 am... but no where did we find a video zoom or aspect adjustment. My $100 nortech DVD player has these features as does the free software included with every Mac, but not Windows Media Player. Maybe there is another DVD player included? If so we couldn't find it so what good is it... we had to watch the movie in this tiny screen size. This seems to be the recurring theme every time we go to use this computer for ANYTHING.. we waste a half hour learning that it is incapable of the simplest functions and either abandon the effort or put up with some form of torturous inadequacy. (BUY A MAC)

As for the Sony itself.. who knows, it seems slow, unresponsive, generally useless... but I work on a MacBook every day so maybe my expectations are too high. The Sony would probably be a great machine if it wasn't loaded with garbage for software. If your planning to uninstall Vista and all the associated garbage and load Linux or some other real operating system you might be alright, but why not just BUY A MAC?

"Almost perfect", I loved my champagne colored laptop when I first bought it. I still do. Its very different from other laptops on the market, so I loved it. The only problem is that after a few months the Motion Eye built in camera stopped working for no apparent reason. I search the internet trying to find an answer and apparently I am NOT the only one with the problem. Many people have experience it as well. But, since I didn't use it to begin with I'm not as mad as I was when I found out. Apart from that, great laptop.

"Fragile LCD - Do not buy", Purchased Sony VAIO Dec. 2007 as a present. I bought it not only because of the SONY name but because it was in the style and color that my wife liked. Had I known how fragile the screen was, and the fact that SONY knew about it and it still continued selling the units with a warranty that specifically excluded LCD "damage" I would not have bought it. A rarely used notebook, still in an "as new" like condition and Sony claims LCD damage and refuses to fix.

"excellent computer", I wanted a decently powerfull laptop basically for watching movies, and spend a lot of time in front of the screen reading and writing. I have to say that its price was really a great deal. This computer is really a beauty, from its fancy design to its efficiency. The screen is absolutely perfect. No reflections, and crystal clear. For the use I`m making of it, I am more than satisfied with this laptop. I was an exclusive Toshiba buyer and I turned to Sony basically for its looks, and I`m thrilled with its quality.

"Don't by it if you type a lot", I have to say that I was really impressed with this computer when I just got it, because it looks absolutely beutiful (I have a gold one) I hopes long ago that there will be more choice in design and here it was, very light, just beautiful!
There is one main problem. I work typing a lot of text, transcribing. There is some charge that is going through the metal part of a laptop, right in front where the player bottons are, that doesn't quiet burn my skin, but discharging some electricity in to my wrist and it's quiet painful by the end of the day!
I love everything about it, but just for that little thing I would return it, if I did not live in Europe and spent so much money on getting it here from US. So now I just have to wear long sleaves or put some scarf over the metal bar in front, quiet annoying.

"Best Laptop Ever!!!!!", I got this because I had a Dell laptop for the past 5-years, and both hinges on it were broken. I literally had to prop it up on pillows for it to even work. So, this was ordered as a replacement. Sad to say, I picked this because it was pink.

As far as functionality goes, this is PERFECT! The screen is crisp and clear. The keyboard is easy to maneuver, and visually attractive since it is a brushed chrome. Vista takes some getting used too, but it is easily figured out in a day. It is flawless on sites like youtube, it just streams video media beautifully, and works well with downloading and the internet in general.

The laptop itself is light as a feather! Compared to my Dell dinosaur, it feels like it weighs nothing. I am sorry, I didn't get this sooner, I love it, and would recommend this to anyone.

"The pink suckered me in...", This was an impulse purchase, I spent my government refund check early. I didn't pay even half what is listed here, cause this model has been updated and mine was on clearance at Best Buy or I'd never had purchased it.

That said, my biggest complaint is the screen flicker when you scroll up and down the page. At first, I thought there was something wrong with the video card, and had an on-line chat with Sony tech support in India (funny how you can tell that even in writing) who just wanted me to reinstall the video drivers. That didn't work. I took it back to Best Buy and they said there wasn't anything wrong with it, that Windows Vista was the reason the screen flickers, and the rest of the new laptops did the same thing. He showed me a brand new Toshiba and darn if it didn't flicker too when scrolling. So I took it back home, but it really is annoying.

I'm not impressed with Vista so far, this laptop has the Home Premium. I haven't seen it do anything spectular, unless I'm missing something. Oh, back to the laptop. I do like feel of the keyboard, even if the letters are not lasered onto the keys, they are just some sort of stickers. It does take a really long time to power up though.

I've always owned Dells, and they come with scads of software on CDs. This Sony came with zero, zilch, nada. Not even a Vista reinstall CD. I didn't realize that at the time I bought it.

All in all, it's just a laptop, but it sure is pretty...

"Perfect looks, great power, but not the best out there", I bought this laptop months ago, and i can't deny that it's looks made me buy it instead of a Dell or an HP, despite all the bad things i had heard about the Vaio series.I bought it from Amazon, and it came just as they advertised (time and condition of the product).
I really like this laptop, but it is not the best out there.

The good:
1- Very fast processor. I'm using kaspersky internet security 7 and it doesn't slow down the sistem. The RAM is fair.
2- The integrated webcam is quite cool
3- Very light and elegant design

The bad:
1- This laptop is supossed to have 200Gb of Hard drive, yet you can only use 178. Why?. Also, this hard drive is slow (4.2 RPM).
2- No bluetooth (almost all laptops today come with bluetooth)
3- Bad sound
4- The battey has such a short life! and the cord is too short (i don't understand why)

It's a good laptop with some absurd flaws. Sony Vaio series has convinced most buyers(me, for example)that they give more importance to looks than to technology or functional aspects. I hope i won't ever have to experience all those problems other Vaio owners claim to have (battery break, motherboard catastrophes, etc...).

"A great product that has been spoilt", This computer is a great product. The screen is highly illuminated and attractive. The skin is a beautiful glossy red. But the software is loaded with so much junk that you really have to compete to get things done. That's crazy.
