"It Made A Believer Out of Me!"
I have no trouble admitting that I'm a complete coffee snob. I love the stuff, but it has to be brewed well, and brewed STRONG. I've been devoted to my French Press for years, but because I'm the only one in my house who really drinks coffee, I often end up pouring lots of coffee (and lots of money in the process) down the drain. So, I started investigating single-serve coffee machines.

I had tried a Keurig K-Cup in the industrial machine at my office and I was not terribly impressed, to say the least, so I nearly passed the Breville system by. However, after trying coffees from Nespresso (their pod system is abhorrently expensive, and quite limited in selection), as well as Tassimo and a couple of others, I decided to give this one a try.

The options that the Breville gives really set it apart from the competition. The fact that I can select the size of my cup of coffee (less water + more grounds = better coffee) as well as have the option of using the "My K-Cup" filter (so I'm not beholden to any given type of coffee pod) helped nudge my buying decision along nicely. Once I'd tried a cup, however, I was *completely* sold (there's a high-end kitchen store, whose name rhymes with "Shilliams-Bonoma", at which you can sample cups of coffee from the various machines that they sell, so I tried all of the single-serve machines). I highly recommend going through the exercise of trying coffees from various machines, because everyone's coffee needs/tastes are different.

The coffee produced by the Breville is rich, strong and exactly the way I like it. I have the option of using over 150 different coffees (I have found the ones labeled "extra bold" to be the best and brew them at the 7.5 oz setting) or K-Cups of tea or cocoa, and cleanup couldn't be easier (just open the machine's head and discard the K-Cup; what could be easier than that?!?)

I had a little buyer's remorse after my initial purchase, but with each passing day (I've been using the machine for a little over a month, now), I am happier and happier that I got it. It's an expensive machine, but for me, it was worth every penny. If you're a coffee aficionado and want an easy way to get your cup on each morning (and afternoon, and evening), I couldn't recommend the Breville BKC600XL more highly. Happy brewing!

"I love it!"
I recently purchased the Breville BKC600XL and after some experimentation have come up with a great cup-a-joe. I first tried some of the K-cups that came in the box but they tasted plasticky and flavorless. I even bought a few boxes from Bed Bath & Beyond and had the same problem. My friend said they buy theirs thru the internet and have had no problem. My assumption is that mine were old and stale.

I then tried the "My K-Cup" that comes with the Breville using my Seattle's Best pre-ground Organic Breakfast Blend. I use 1 level scoop (included) and set it to the second smallest cup size, and am very pleased with the results.

The next problem I had was given the optimal size-to-flavor ratio I need to make 3 cups to clear my morning fog. I now have 2 "My K-Cups" and am about to invest in 2 more. 3 for me and 1 for my husband's Dunkin' Donuts coffee (which he prefers brewed on the next size up). At night I fill the water reservoir prepare my K-Cups put 1 in the Breville and just pop the K-Cups in as needed. It may seem a pricey investment at first but in the long run will actually be cheaper, yet I still have the convenience of the pods and no environmental angst. I then clean them after the morning rush is over.

I have not had a problem with noise. I always keep it on, so consequently the water stays warm, there is a minimal brewing noise as the water prepares to fill the cup. The noisiest it gets is after the cup is filled. If I haven't removed my cup there is a slight rattling from the vibration of what I assume to be the new water being heated, but once I remove it, the noise is negligible.

"Not So Happy"
I read the reviews on the Breville BKC600XL and decided to try it. Several people commented that it was quiet for a single cup coffee maker.
I was very disappointed with how loud and how much it vibrates when first turned on. For 10 seconds it pumps water from the tank to the heating compartment, during this time it sounds like it's going to take off.
I tried putting a pad under it but not much better. My wife said it's got to go. So I returned it. I did call the customer service people at Breville and they are aware of the noise issue. But that's how it is made. For me, no. I will go back to a regular coffee maker.

"Best single serve maker by far!!"
Can't say enough about this machine. Breville has done a fantastic job. I too have always owned a traditional coffee maker and was a little skeptical at first to consider a single serve brewer. The more I weighed out the benefits it really made alot of sense. Then I began to compare units....the Breville is more expensive up front than its competitors, but it is also far superior in every aspect. Quality, ease of use, and design are worth every penny. The unit is solid where the others were flimsy by comparison. The my k-cup and water filtering system are standard as they are optional on the competitors units, so when you really compare price to product, the Breville really does stand apart. Brewing is so easy and it produces a perfect cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa every time. My kids love it and want to use it. And don't worry about selection, there are literally hundreds of selections available and new selections all the time. Be sure to consider this machine before you buy.... I promise you will be impressed too.

"Breville BK600XL Best Coffee Maker Ever Owned"
I have owned many coffee makers in my lifetime but this one is the "cream of the crop" It not only looks good with its stainless steel exterior, but it functions perfectly. Fill the reservoir with water, turn it on and wait a few minutes for the water to heat, insert a K-cup or even your own grounds in the included re-usable filter, and push the brew button. Hot coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or even plain water for cooking bullions, etc., are ready instantly. Machine is very versatile, has built in timer for automatic functions, and will even turn off automatically, if you wish. Cheaper coffee pods can be used if the optional coffee pod accessory is purchased. K-cups can be more expensive than coffee pods but are easier and more convenient to use. I purchased the optional pod accessory and found it to be a good investment. Pays for itself over time with the savings on pods vs. K-cups. I found I can even cram 2 pods into this pod holder for a good strong cup of coffee. Machine makes a modest buzzing noise when filling the internal water tank for heating but this is not disturbing. Overall, after comparing to other devices on the market, the Breville has more options. Not a cheap coffee machine but if you like good coffee and plan on keeping it along time, I think it's a good investment.

What our customer's say!

"WE LOVE IT", I purchased the Breville Single cup coffee brewer for my husband who loves his coffee in the morning. He usually buys it on his way to the office. Now he Brews a cup of fresh Dunkin Donuts coffee on his way out. We have it timed to come on and be ready to brew. There is no mess and it is so quick & nice and hot. I love the blue light and the fact that you can see the water level on the front. It is our first single cup machine and We love it.

"Breville single cup", I have now used the Breville BKC600XL single cup brewer for two months. I use my own Ethiopian coffee and I purchased extra coffee filters. Excellent results, however I have to admit the K-cups are more convenient. I use the timer so the brewer is not on all night(nice feature). My Capresso made better coffee but I was unable to locate another. Overall I am very satisfied with the convenience, quality and cost of the brewer.

"A truly great coffee maker", My wife and I make coffee all the time, but seldom do we drink an entire pot. We had a Cuisinart Grind and Brew and found that we were wasting coffee most of the time. The single-cup coffee makers have been around for quite some time now, but nothing we have seen compares to the Breville.

This machine uses the K-Cup system, for which coffee, tea and hot chocolate cups are widely available. One K-Cup makes one cup, mug or travel mug size beverage. The nice thing about K-Cups is that there is no cleaning required. Just pop in the K-Cup, brew your beverage, and then throw the K-Cup away. The coffee maker stays clean. The K-Cups are available from many brick and mortar merchants, such as Linen's 'n Things, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. They are also available online at places like Amazon.com. For an idea of the cost, you can purchase 50 coffee K-Cups on Amazon.com for $20, which is 40 cents a cup.

This is a well-made machine that weighs in at about 17 pounds. It is constructed of high quality stainless steel with a die-cast locking arm. The reservoir has a replaceable filter and holds enough water to make about 10 cups. Two blue LEDs illuminate the reservoir so you can always see how much water it contains.

The LCD display is large and backlit in blue with very easy to navigate menus. Controls for selecting your cup size and starting the brew cycle are just below the LCD and are also illuminated in blue. The LCD provides information and instructions, which include telling you when to refill the reservoir, when to open the K-Cup chamber, and when the machine is ready to brew.

The blue illumination is always on when the machine is turned on, and only the clock stays visible in the LCD display when the machine is off.

You can program the machine to come on and brew at a specified time and to turn off at a specified time. While the machine is on, the brew temperature is constantly maintained so you can have a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate on a moment's notice.

It takes only a couple minutes for the water to reach brewing temperature and about 30 seconds to brew an average size cup.

Other options include setting the brewing temperature, but I am perfectly happy with the defaults that came with the machine.

One of the most valuable options of this machine is called
the "My K-Cup" which allows you to use your own coffee or tea instead of the pre-packaged K-Cups. Tucked into the top of the machine under a spring-loaded lid is the "My K-Cup" holder and a coffee scoop. Just dump a scoop of your favorite ground coffee into the machine-washable My K-Cup filter, pop the entire assembly in place of the K-Cup holder, and brew away.

I found that from the very first cup, brewed from either a pre-packaged K-Cup or from my own coffee in the My K-Cup, this machine has brewed as perfect a cup of coffee as I have had from a consumer coffee machine. I use it to brew directly into a travel mug every morning so I can enjoy coffee on my way to work. My wife and I now enjoy coffee more often, and the flavor is always predictable and consistent. We are no longer wasting coffee by making a pot that we do not finish.

I never thought I would spend this much on a coffee maker, but this is definitely a case where you get what you pay for. We hope to have this machine for a very long time.

"Good coffee maker for certain people", This Breville coffee maker is the new upgrade (not sure how new) allowing for ground coffee, in addition to coffee pods. If several people in a household or small office are using this, especially with ground coffee, the whole process becomes slow and not practical. After each cup the basket needs to be emptied and cleaned out (while three people are waiting to make a cup of coffee). This style is more suited to the use of the coffee pod, which is satisfying to many coffee drinkers nowdays. So, if used with pods, this is a great coffee maker, simple and easy to use, and coffee tastes great.

"Way better than Keurig brand", I bought a Keurig brand coffee maker about 4 years ago. Loved it! 5 of my friends bought them! I figure, for the coffee kick my husband was on, it paid for itself in a couple of months. He would either make a whole pot in the evening, drink one cup, then make a fresh pot later on in the evening. OR drive to Dunkin Doughnuts and buy coffee and doughnuts there. Once we didn't have to go thru all that, he could drink fresh coffee all night for a fraction of the time and money. So what this comes down to is, I love k-cups!
Eventually, the old brewer stopped working. After ALOT of research in all price ranges kcups and pods, for the best tasting coffee, I decided to get this Breville. One, because of the water filter; two, because of so many great reviews; and another, because Breville makes great quality products. This brewer is $299, consider that they make $175 TOASTERS! That makes this feel alot less expensive. Plus, Bed Bath and Beyond has all of those 20% off coupons, that saves you $60!
It feels much better quality than the Keurig brand brewers. The tank is much easier to get on and off. The blue tank light flashes when it needs water (I thought that was cute.) Stored in the top of the machine is a superior container for using your own ground coffee (vs. the open mesh cups you get for the other Keurig brewers). Pointless but cute is, the drip tray has a water level indicator to tell you when to empty it. The buttons are easier to understand if you dont know the machine.
We have low cupboards and would have to pull the old brewer way out to put the kcup in because the whole top has to come way up. This one, only the front half has to come up, so we are able to leave it sitting in one place because only 1/2 of it needs to open instead of the whole top.
About my only complaint is that its not smudge free stainless. Its constantly covered in fingerprints. A small price to pay.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great single serve coffee maker", This makes less noise than the keurig, looks stylish and has worked very well for coffee and tea. Thr ability to use your own coffee is a nice feature and the my k cup stores neatly in the machine.

"VERY HAPPY", After much research, as well as being on somewhat of a budget, we bought the Breville and we LOOOOVE it! We have had no problems at all! My in-laws are in Switzerland and they have a beautiful "pod" coffee maker which is much louder so we were prepared for alot of noise. The Breville has a totally mellow vibrating sound for about 10 seconds.
A key thing is making sure the resevoir is large so you're not refilling it all the time. This one is 60oz. which is as big as most of the top-selling,fancy machines. Alot of them are smaller.
Do your research. Read the reviews for the other brands. You will see for this price, this one has the best reviews.

"I Love it", It was really hard to decide between this and the Keurig B 70, but I thought this one looked a little more heavy-duty than the K., and I liked the all-SS look. Hopefully it will be worth the extra$$. Very easy to use right out of the box, and I love using the K cup system. I am one of those who tries a different coffee pot almost every year, and this one is a winner. Hopefully I won't be buying another for a long time. I would have preferred buying from Amazon, because I always shop A when I can. But like other reviewers, 20% off at BB&B was too good to pass up. My friend has the Keurig B-70, and hers makes great coffee too. I signed up for the automated coffee delivery from Amazon - good deal with Amazon Prime. I am very happy with this machine and glad I spent the money for it.

"Ugh, I am one of the pod people...", When the Keurig Co announced they were planning to make a home system for the K-cup, I was thinking that only a fool would get one. They offered a limited amount of K-cups so you had to tie yourself to whatever brand had made the deal. And at the time it was mostly Green Mountain. (Which roast really good coffee.)

Anywho, years later my husband, who saw the Keurig at a clients home, came home all a twitter. He knew it was time to let my faithful Bunn go. I was heartbroken as I love that freaking coffee maker. But, the years we unkind. Well, I was, I did not follow the proper care for the thing. I only remembered to de-lime the tank like once a year. Whoops. The last time I did it there was so much build up, that even after a million rinses, my brew funnel had little white specks of calcium sitting on the coffee grounds. A sad day indeed...

So, off to our fav bedding and kitchen store ready to buy the Keurig. And I only agreed cause my hubby said that we could send it back and replace it with a Bunn if I hated it. They were sold out of the model we wanted and had this one. And it was like a $100 more. Crud. But, we got it. (The 20% off coupon helped)

Why we bought it:
-comes with My Own K-cup (solving the whole _my_ coffee thing, and we did not have to buy it for an extra $15)
-K-cup funnel stores in the top of the machine along with a scoop (NICE!)
-water tank is removable for easy filling
-looks _really_ nice with the little blue lights
-20% off brought it down to the Keurig price plus the My K-cup

So, the bottom line. I like it. I am not as in love. But, I might be someday. It is growing on me. The machine itself is way nicer than I expected. It works beautifully. Everyone on the house can use it. My 10 year old can make me coffee... BIG bonus. I like using my own coffee but I have found a few I like in the K-cup... Try out a few. There are tons now. And the tea is a really nice option.

Why I am not in love. I can't seem to fill the K-cup with out dumping grounds on the counter. And I can't justify grinding a cups worth of coffee each time. I am a BIG fan of grinding to brew and having to grind a few days worth to make it worth it sucks. The coffee is good but the habit is hard to break.

I hate being a pod person. So perhaps my brain is preventing me from loving it. Cause, it is a _really_ nice machine. BUT, if you need a versatile machine for coffee and tea drinker, this is killer. Everyone can be pleased. And entertaining is far easier when you can make that one cup of decaf for that one guy...

"Breville Coffee Brewer", I purchased my brewer about a month ago based on the feedback here. I use it pretty extensively, about 10 times a day, mostly for coffee but the teas are equally as good.

I have to say that its look is very impressive and part of its selling appeal. It looks great on the countertop and has replaced my old maker. After a month of use, I am totally impressed. I like the idea of a cup at a time coffee, brewed fresh, with a huge selection of choices, which is not limited to just coffee but teas as well.

It is quiet aside from the 10 seconds that it pumps from the water tank through the filter to the heating compartment.

Setup was a breeze! Just a note though, you can't set the time until you put the water in the reservoir.

Initially cost is quite a bit for a coffee maker but anything to make my mornings more enjoyable is worth it. If you are looking for a top of the line maker, that looks good, works great this is the one.

Beverage choice is pretty limitless since the system includes a separate cup attachment should you not want to buy the K-cups and you would prefer to use the coffee or tea of your choice, so don't think you are bound to buy K-cups but give them a try. I hope this helps anyone thinking about buying Breville single cup brewer system.
