Others say...
"BREAKAGE FACTOR" Unfortunately, I agree with Paul. I use a wide variety of herbal tea products and I often brew pots full of tea for cooking purposes. I loved the Bodum product for this purpose (and because it is very lightweight -- useful on days when I have a lot of joint pain), but am very disappointed that the pot broke for no apparent reason. I was washing it with a sponge and it shattered in my hands. I did NOT impact anything with the pot, it simply came apart. Good thing I didn't cut myself! "Needs a separate lid" I have had my tea press for a little over a week. There are a couple of reasons why I gave it 4 stars. The first, which really has nothing to do with the product itself, is because the first time I saw it and put it in my cart it was $12.99. Nice. When I went to buy it a few days later it was $29.99. Not nice. I watched the price ping pong up and down and finally got it for $18.99. Now it is cheaper. Shame on you Amazon. I would have liked a larger size but am leary of the Assam model because I like the plastic frame and it looks like it might buffer a few bumps that might break unprotected glass. I wanted a tempered glass that could take the boiling water and this does well. Pouring the water onto the tea requires care, a steady hand, and not getting into a rush. Otherwise you end up with the water overflowing along with a lot of tea ending up in the pot itself. Once the brewing is done, you can supposedly leave the infuser in place after pushing the plunger down and stopping the brewing. I would like to have a lid I could put on after removing the infuser. It looks better without the infuser for serving, and as I make my tea very strong, there would be room for a little ice or water. Over all, I am quite pleased with it except for the above reasons. "Versatile and Tasteful" I was given two boxes of excellent green tea from a Tawiwanese friend and until I bought the New Kenya Tea Press, I could never get the proportions right or tell how long to seap the tea. With the New Kenya, even if you put too much or two little tea in the press, you can adjust the flavor and strength by the color. Best of all you can pour directly from the attractive seaping pot without a mess. Every pot I've made so far has been great. This New Kenya is a fitting complement to the New Kenya coffee press. "Glass Breaks Too Easily" DO NOT BUY ANY BODUM COFFEE OR TEA PRESS THAT CONTAINS GLASS. BODUM USES A SPECIAL GLASS THAT IS EXTRAORDINARILY FRAGILE AND BREAKS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I love Bodum Coffee and Tea Presses. But I would NEVER recommend anyone buy one with a glass beaker or kettle. You will need to replace the beaker or kettle frequently, since the special glass Bodum uses is extremely fragile, and breaks repeatedly for no apparent reason at all. I replaced four beakers, two glass tea presses, and several beakers from milk frothers in short order before giving up. Make no mistake, you do not have to bang the glass against anything for it to break. It simply cracks spontaneously for no apparent reason Bodum has come out with some presses with a LEXAN clear plastic beaker. These do not break. I assume they came out with the LEXAN product because of problems with the glass. Be warned. Unfortunately so far as I know, Bodum does not have a LEXAN tea press. "Nice" I decided to buy this product after using it in one of the cafes.A tea pot is a tea pot but in this one i liek the design very much.

What our customer's say! "Makes great tea, quickly", My wife tried tea from a tea press at a friends home and wanted one. I bought the tea press on sale from Amazon. She liked it so much we bought one at full price for our daughter in Maryland. She says it makes great tea also. "Great teapot!", I love this teapot. It makes my tea taste great and it looks beautiful. "Great Product", This lil' thing works great...much better than the pot of boiling water we were using:) And then it looks slick. "Tea should be very warm", This pot with the press makes great tea, but there's no way to keep it warm! The black design on the outside is plastic and even covers some of the bottom so there is no way to keep the tea warm. I use it by making the tea in the pot then pouring it into a ceramic pot that I can put on a cup warmer. I do not advise anyone who isn't going to drink the tea within a few minutes of brewing it to buy this pot. "Does the job, but not a high-quality item", This tea press does the job, but the quality and overall feel leave something to be desired. Every component except for the pot itself is made of plastic, and not the high-quality kind. The plastic used for the inner brew basket is not the hard, transparent type, but rather the white semi-translucent type (similar to milk containers), which looks cheap and unattractive. The soft rubber ring that provides the seal between the plunger and the sides of the brew basket is not attached in any permanent fashion, and comes off easily if you push the plunger down too aggressively. The tea-making process itself works well enough, and the black plastic on the outside is a nice touch because it means you don't have to worry when putting your tea press on heat-sensitive surfaces. Overall, I'd recommend this for use at the office or for travel, but not for your home. I am planning to get a higher quality pot to replace this, and take this one to work. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "nice..", Plunger mechanism works as claimed. Although made of plastic, it appears to be well designed and should last years like my coffee press. I use it for iced tea. I brew the tea, press the plunger to stop brewing and then place in the refrigerator. Too easy. I don't give it five stars because it is not air tight. It is not good for overnight storage (my coffee press can be closed by turning the lid). "ordering something else now", I like the looks of my Kenya teapot, but do not care for the function of it. The top does not fit well and the press does not seem to have any function at all. Basically, you put in your tea and water and let it steep w/o any help from the top at all. I have only had it a couple of weeks and am online to look for something else. "Simple, effective design.", Pros: Easy to clean (all dishwasher safe). The plunger/brew basket effectively stops the tea from steeping further by isolating the tea at the bottom of the plastic basket, from the rest of the pot. While it does not say so on the box, I have observed no ill effects from heating water in it in the microwave with the plastic brew basket and plunger assembly removed. Pours cleanly without any dribbling down the side. Cons: If you fill the pot too full, tea can float from the plastic chamber and get into pot "at large." Not a problem if a modicum of care is taken. "Great brewing system", I purchased the Bodum New Kenya tea presses in both the small and the medium sized models. I really enjoy good quality loose tea, and the tea presses make it very convenient to brew this way (although the tea presses do also accommodate bagged tea, according to the instructions). For the small press I add about one and one half tablespoons of loose tea to the strainer, and about three tablespoons for the medium sized press. The amount you add, as always, will depend on your own preferences. I would have given the New Kenya presses 5 stars, but for one feature that I believe has the potential for eventual failure, due to extended use. The plunger portion of the tea press is surrounded by a soft plastic gasket, to seal it closely to the basket when pressing the tea leaves. Because this gasket is made of such a soft material, I can see that it has the potential to wear out over time, much in the same way that other gaskets can become worn. It doesn't appear that this gasket comes off or separates from the plunger, so I imagine that if it does wear out, the entire lid and plunger assembly will have to be replaced. Potentially, that could be costly, but with the reduced price that Amazon currently offers these models, it might be a moot point. The New Kenya models are the first Bodum tea presses I have purchased, so I do not know if all of the Bodum models have this same type of plunger assembly. Perhaps I am being overly cautious, but I depend on the reviews of others many times when making purchases, so I want to be as honest as possible. (You can decide whether or not my concern is important to you!) The most significant points are that this press is simple to use, allows you to control the strength of your brewed tea, and is also very easy to clean. Oh, yeah, and did I mention that it makes one heck of a great cup of tea!? Cheers! "Great price for a nice Bodum teapot", The Bodum New Kenya medium tea press looks great and makes using loose leaf tea very easy. You add the tea, add the water and when it is done press down. I paid 12.95 and that is a very good price for a Bodum tea pot with press. Be aware that the Bodum tea pots are light glass and plastic. You're not getting Wedgewood or Yixing here. But if you are familiar with Bodum and find it useful, then this is a good looking piece and a great value. ![]() |
