Others say...
"Great Price for Le Creuset" Authentic, first quality Le Creuset. The 4.25-quart size was just what I had been looking for. Great for Coq au Vin. "just the right size" We got this pot (in blue) as a wedding gift last year and love it. We use it all the time-- for pasta sauces, soups, etc. Yes, it's on the heavy side but even when it's full of food I can lift it (in contrast, I can barely lift our 7 qt le creuset pot off the stove even when it's empty). If you want a workhorse le creuset pot, one that you'll find yourself reaching for every day, I'd recommend this one. "Love Le Creuset" I love Le Creuset cast iron. I am still using a dutch oven and au gratin pan that I bought in 1968. They do indeed last forever without much babying. Four stars instead of five? Le Creuset never holds as much as advertised. E.g this soup pot says 4 1/4 qt--but I measured with water and got about 12 cups in it. I could squeeze 4 more if I filled it to overflow level at the rim. For practical use, assume they all hold less then advertised. This is a very good buy--I could not find the medium sized soup pot any place but Amazon. The small one(about 2 quarts) is the same price. The bouillabaisse pot is too big for my needs, and considerably more expensive. "Warehouse Deals-what a Deal!" Having enjoyed using mine, I purchased this Le Creuset 4-1/4 qt Soup Pot for a gift. The main difference was I purchased this one from Warehouse Deals (the Amazon subsidiary for selling returns, etc) and when it arrived I opened the box with trepidation, expecting to be using the return form within minutes. The Soup Pot was in "pristine" condition and try as I might I could find no defects of any kind, the Le Creuset orange box did have a tear at one corner. The main differences versus Amazon-limited choices, no free shipping, or free product offers, and no shipment tracking number information, but the price was lower, -under one third of list price including the shipping cost of about $10. So I'd recommend this as an option to save some money on your Le Creuset purchase of single pots. If you want to purchase several the annual Le Creuset outlet sale in early July may be a better option. But if like me you live hours away from a Le Creuset outlet, Amazon or Warehouse Deals is still the best. "Blue Heaven (Cobalt of course)" I wanted some "mid range" size enameled cast iron pots that would be a manageable weight and size and be OK when cooking for 2 with left over's, or occasionally 4-6 persons. The 4 ¼ Qt Le Creuset Soup Pot and the 3 ½ Qt Le Creuset Casserole are perfect. I'm planning to purchase a 7 1/4 Qt Le Creuset French Oven in addition. It's a similar weight and diameter to the Casserole, but (unlike the 5 1/2 Qt French oven) is significantly larger than the 4 1/4 Qt Soup Pot, so I feel it is a worthwhile addition for the 20% of things that don't fit the other 2 Pots. I'm glad I chose the Cobalt Blue, -it adds some color to the kitchen but not too much. It will go well with a bit of red as well. The things I like about the large flat Casserole pot is that it is 3 ½ Qt, but the lid is 2 ½ Qt so overall it holds 6 Qt, for things like lamb or chicken roasts. And it's good for everything except soup. The 4 1/4 Soup Pot on the other hand is ideal for soup (no surprise there) since with it's bath tub shape, small soup batches fill up the side walls rapidly. It can be used for everything else as well, but it's not quite so convenient for dishes which are flat by nature like Salmon. The 4 1/4 Qt Soup Pot with lid is about 5 Qt and has almost an inch more headroom inside than the casserole for things like chicken or roasts. When you receive your order I recommend checking each piece thoroughly inside and out before removing any labels, and then returning any defective ones to Amazon shipping paid, -if you purchase from someone else this may not be free though. I think the Amazon prices are reasonable especially if you don't live near a Le Creuset outlet store, and if you can get close to 50% of list including shipping with an overall purchase of items, I think you are doing OK. Also keep in mind that the 101 year owner warranty is all very fine, but you have to print the ownership paperwork on archival quality paper to be readable.

What our customer's say! "wundabar!", I love this pot. I also bought the Le Creuset Enameled Cast-Iron 3-1/2-Quart Buffet Casserole, Dune. I love the beautiful color, it's just as described, like sand, and it goes very well with all my vintage pieces of other colors. Just as described I use it to make soup and other things and it's heavy, sturdy, cooks evenly and worth every penny. Le Creu-lovely. "Great pot!", I love this pot! I made a roast in it and it was awesome. The best thing was that cleanup was an absolute breeze. The one thing I was a little disappointed about was that the top handle can only sustain temps in the oven up to 375 degrees. "bad shape", I bought this and ended up returning. It has a very small bottom. I would have liked to brown ingredients first and then add rest and bake. It is just a poor design. Doesn't live up to the wonderful quality that le creuset has. "Perfect size and not too heavy", I have tons of Le Creuset but this is one of the best. Some of the other ones I have are a little on the heavy size and get really heavy when I fill them with stew. It's also great that this one holds just the right amount of food for various common dishes. It holds all my stews, veggies (I make veggies for my baby with this with a little amount of water. I don't lose the vitamins from the veggies this way into the water like I would with the normal veggie boiling process), risotto, pasta... name it, it can be done! This lime color is beautiful too. It went with my white applicance kitchen and now looks beautiful with my black appliance kitchen. Brightens up the room really well too! "Yes, it is heavy, but what did you expect?", LOVE this piece. Love all of my Le Creuset pieces. They cook perfectly, the clean even easier. Would totally purchase this again! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "le creuset rules", We have a couple of le Creuset enameled cast iron items and they are the best we've used for stews and braises - brown meat/etc. on the stovetop and then put the whole dish in the oven. This soup pot is a nice size; the only caveat is that the flat bottom of this one is a little bit small for folks with an electric rangetop (if you plan to brown in it). Great for large casseroles. "Great pan", This is a great all-around cooking pan. For sauces, stews and soups, we fry onions, garlic, and/or meat and then add the vegetables and liquid ingredients directly (no separate fry pan is needed). The interior surface is relatively stick-free (we always use oil) and the whole pan is easy to clean with soap and a sponge. Before getting this pan, we used a cast-iron pan of similar size and shape. While this Le Creuset pan is much more expensive, it is about half the weight and a third the trouble to clean. The pan comes with a sticker attached to it that is impossible to remove with your finger-nail. But soap and water remove the sticker with ease. "Christmas Gift", I bought this for my daughter and she has raved about it. She has cooked so many dishes in it and loves it. The fact that it holds heat and can cook on low or medium heat. Also easy to clean. "Great product for the money", I bought this to use as a soup pot and a dutch oven (or french oven depending on what you call it). It has worked out great for both purposes so far. I have not been limited by the slightly smaller/curved bottom of the dish. I would highly recommend this as a 2 in 1 piece of cookware. The price is really great as well. Its a tough combination to beat. "Great Soup Pot...But A Bit Small", Like i said, it is a great soup pot! Simmers slowly on the stove all day long. I cook for a family of four and i found it too small for most soup/stew recipies. I would recommend the 7 1/4 soup pot or round french oven. BTW, the red color is beautiful!!! Although the other colors are nice as well. ![]() |
