Others say...
"Student Loan Overcharges, Tobacco Companies, Trade Protection? Huh?" I'll never forget when Morris was forced out of his pollster job in the Clinton Administration after reports of drug use and depraved sexual activity, including engaging in S&M activity with a prostitute and singing "Popeye the Sailor Man" to her on a hotel balcony in his underwear. It's good to see that he's recovered from that shameful episode. He has now entered into a highly lucrative career stringing long lists of random, unrelated issues like Obama, United Nations, John Cusak, tobacco companies, lobbyists for foreign governments, drug companies, John Kerry, Madeline Albright, etc., and creates these delightful book titles out of them and fills the pages inside with his highly informative analysis of how liberals are to blame for everything that is wrong in America. Even though he was publicly exposed as a depraved sexual deviant during his Clinton job, Morris nonetheless makes valid points about how liberals have destroyed the moral fabric of this great nation. "Outrage" This book should be a must for all Americans as it reveals just how we are being ripped off, particularly by our elected representatives. No one (except Bill O'Reilly) is looking out for us. "A Chronicle of governmental outrages and solutions." I found this book to be a mixed bag. On one hand the authors documented the outrageous spending and ethical violations in Washington. They offer some sensible solutions. On the other hand their validation of domestic spying is questionable. On Immigration they use the 9/11 high-jackers as an effective example of how visas sometimes shouldn't be issued and that visitors that overstay their visas have to be dealt with more effectively. The chapter on the internal A.C.L.U. battle and the behavior of Mr. Romero (which is very J.Edgar Hooveresque) was mind-boggling! The authors advocate the idea that Congress and Senators should work for minimum wage. This is fantasy, but it sounds good!! It's hard to argue for the ridiculous, self-serving, abbreviated work schedule of Congress. The authors are totally on point. The pharmaceutical companies and their relationships with health care professionals in over-medicating patients is an issue that deserves more public scrutiny. The authors serve up many examples of family members of Senators and Congressmen making the easy money as lobbyists. They document the U.N. scandals very well. Particularly the Oil-For-Food scam. The authors listed the many beneficiaries of bribery. I disagree with their solution and would propose instead that the U.S.A. shut down and expel the United Nations. I don't agree with the authors' positive attitude toward the PATRIOT ACT. There has to be a better way than giving up civil liberties and advocating the monitoring of internet usage or library reading lists. I am skeptical of the "thwarted terrorist activities" outlined in the book. By their very nature these cases would be difficult to detail. Spying isn't something any government is going to rush to admit. We are left as citizens to trust and believe what the Bush administration leaks to the public. Overall "Outrage" is written quite well, although with a conservative twist. "Disjointed random swipes." I try to read both sides of the political spectrum, but 'Outrage' seems unfortunatly typical of conservative messages. The book seems to mirror the Fox News style of presentation. It seems written for a slightly less informed crowd, I felt the language used was a bit dumbed down, and there was a bit of scare-mongering going on. Being in the financial industry, I really was interested in a topic I felt conservatives would have a better understanding of, yet, the book seemed more about taking random swipes at groups the author disagreed with. For instance, the section on the ACLU seemed to be a random attack. Most other parts of the book delt with the waste of tax payer's money, while that section focused on the ACLU wasting their money. Who cares if the ACLU wastes their money? It's their money, not ours. The books bills itself as a look at wasted taxpayers money, and that chapter is just one example the skewed writing. I finished up to about the three quarters mark of this book, before moving on to better books. It's fairly rare that I do not finish a book, to be honest (the last being "The Republican War on Science", which I found to have similar faults). On a final note, most of the sources seemed dubious at best. I realize the author worked for Fox News, but working at Fox News should only further discredit the organization, in my opinion. Using them as a major source of citation did little to reinforce the weight of their arguments. "Be ready to get MAD.........." Every voting American needs to read this book and then VOTE ACCORDINGLY.It is unbelievable how so many of those we are paying to represent us have no desire to do what we pay them to do. In the "real world" they would all be fired. Be ready to be angry when you read through this. If you're on blood pressure meds, you might want to double-up!

What our customer's say! "another gem", this author knows his principles. and it is refreshing to see someone speak on the bovine dung that we call a government. the same friend allowed me to borrow this tome as well. after reading it I suggested a violent action to bring down the government and to replace it with a community where all had a duty that contributed to the whole. and all were equal and there was no heirarchy. again, I cannot say whether or not every tidbit is factual, having not worked in the inner circles of the political machine myself, but from information I have researched and have been introduced to, this book seems on point. "A man worth listening to.", If you follow Politics and Current Affairs, and more importantly if you watch Fox News, you are familiar with Dick Morris. Dick published this book a year ago and since that time he has published another blockbuster "Fleeced". Dick knows Politics as well as anyone else around;and he tells it like it is.Even Bill O'Reilly stops and listens to Dick, even when he disagrees with him. In this book, Dick addresses many of the "Outrages" that are being bantered around these days, as the Federal Election is in full swing. Last evening ,O'Reilly was ranting, along with many others, that nobody, either elected politicians, those charged with the responsiblity to oversee the financial markets,or the financial institutions themselves ;warned of the financial mess we were heading into. Well,O'Reilly was wrong,Morris, for one, warned us in spades, and it's all spelled out in this book in chapter 4,The 2006 Congress, chapter 8,Fannie Mae,and chapter 9 ,The Bankruptcy Bill. There is an old ,but wise adage, that has never been more true than today; "Never let the dog watch your food and never let the Government watch your money." If you really want to know what the real truth behind many of the issues,or as Morris calls them "OUTRAGES",read what he has to say on: Illegal Immigration United Nations Congressional Ripoffs Student Loan Overcharges Tobacco Companies ACLU Education and Teacher's Unions Katrina Ripoffs Special Interest Trade Protection This is a book that should be read by all Americans,Democrats,Republicans,Independents;and even Canadians. The reason I include Canadians is for the simple reason that the same issues are prevalent in Canada.Except for one thing, there is no TV Network in Canada that gives balanced reporting. The National TV network,CBC,is Government run and unargueably highly Left-Wing biased. Also, there is no writer publishing books anything nearly balanced as what we get from Dick Morris. One good example is a recent event with our Socialized Medical system that the Goverment and Media hold up as a great solution. Last week,in Winnipeg,Manitoba,a man without legs in a wheelchair, was dropped off in the Hospital Emergency Room. He was not given any attention until 34 hours later, when finally someone checked him.He was dead and rigormortis had already set in.Our Socialized Medicine is filled with stories like this, long waits for beds in hospitals, tens of thousands who cannot find a Family Doctor, and despite this ;there is no "OUTRAGE" --just promises from the Government and Politicians of all stripes ,that they are going to fix it. And that's what you get when you have Socialized Medicine and half of all the Government's Budget is spent on the system. "Outrage by Dick Morris", I have not finished this book yet but it is one I feel everyone should read before they vote in the November elections. I want to say---------WAKE UP AMERICANS----the lobbyist and special interest groups are in control of Congress and the laws that are made. Both parties are equally at fault over the lobbyist problem and earmarks inserted in bills. The economy will always have problems when our politicians make promises and vote to enhance their own power and wealth instead of voting for what is best for the majority of citizens in this country. "A Balanced Look At Outrageous Behavior", 'Outrage' outlines a wide range of horrible conduct by Congress, corporations, and others. Dick Morris reveals treachery and incompetence by Congress (both Republicans and Democrats), the president, the United Nations, pharamaceutical companies, the teachers' unions, Fannie Mae, the news media, and others. In addition to pointing out the problems, he offers some solutions. Some of the most revealing sections include the following: Congress - The evils catalogued in this section are numerous and perpetrated by both parties. Some of the issues are corruption (selling votes for campaign contributions), automatic pay raises, inappropriate relationships (financial) with lobbyists, and more. He names names and several are very prominent including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, and many more. One of the outrages is the way that leaders of both parties circled the wagons to prevent an FBI investigation of bribery by a member of 'the club' (William Jefferson, D-LA). Illegal immigration is another outrage. Our inept federal government has no tracking of those who leave the country so there is no way to tell who has overstayed visa times. How pathetic is that! Another issue is that many visas are issued when they should not be (as in the case of 15 out of 19 of the 9/11 terrorists). There are many more of these abuses. Some of those exposed include: student loans, tobacco companies, insurance scams, and the ACLU. One section that is highly educational that needs to be understood by everyone is the chapter on trade protection. Morris does a superb job of schooling readers in the benefits of free trade and the damage done by protectionism. This book should be read by every American voter. "Semi-interesting, semi-professional, decent book", The book makes good and valid points, however much of it is filled with statistics, graphs, and long lists not many would be willing to wade through. It is very simply written, easy to read, but unfortunately mixes fact with opinion. The annoying "action agendas" at the end of each chapter were seriously annoying just because they are all the same and involve nothing more than common sense exhortations. Really not much I did not know already in here, and I probably would not buy another Morris book, although I'll watch him on Hannity and Bill O. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "the only Outrage is that he made money off this book ", Make no mistake: Eileen McGann may be listed on the cover of Morris's books as co-author, albeit in much smaller font than his name, but this book and the others are Morris's. It is his celebrity that pushes all of their books onto the bestseller lists. Morris is a favorite of Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, and many other right wingers, because he is a former Clinton insider who now makes a living bashing the Clintons and other liberals. However, this book is proof that he has not really changed his thinking. This book, which like most political books has all the shelf life of an overripe banana, hits most of the hot button issues: immigration, Katrina, drug companies, tobacco, the ACLU, the United Nations. Morris is shockingly uninformed about most of these issues. His "solutions" to every issue begin with the word "ban." Ban drug companies from bribing doctors. Ban insurance companies from denying coverage to Katrina victims. Ban tobacco companies from adding nicotine to cigarettes. There you have it. Morris thinks the solution to every problem is more government involvement in our lives. Spoken like a true liberal indeed. "Review of Outrage", Filled with a wealth of sourced facts, all in one book. A must-read by concerned citizens. I've given away several copies. I think it's a 'must read.' "Good but whiny", Shocking - exposes corruption. I can not argue with the points Morris makes. It would be helpful to have a better understanding of both sides of an issue and practical recommendations for handling them. All politicians are not corrupt - many are good, sincere people. He should talk about some of the honest ones too for balance. In general, I think every citizen should read this type of book and demand more from government. It is hard to get consensuses - leadership is the scarce quality. Why has partisanship become so bad? Give us more in depth understanding of what is happening. "Another side of Dick Morris", Most people know Dick Morris as "that guy who hates Clinton", and admittedly Morris is most entertaining when he is in hate-Clinton mode, but it's nice to see another side of him, a side that identifies problems and offers solutions in a non-partisan fashion. This is the side that has finally emerged in "Outrage" and it makes for quite an interesting read. Make no mistake, Dick Morris is not a Republican, so it would be a mistake to dismiss this book as "right wing" or partisan. In fact, much of his criticism is directed at Republican and conservative leaders. Morris is most definitely a moderate, and probably more left leaning than anything else. But partisanship is not a part of this book. Morris focuses on things that the mainstream media - engrossed in their own politics - fails to inform the public about. Morris targets corrupt politicians (is there another kind?) and details the perks of a Congressional seat, including the fringe benefits from the lobbyists. Not only that, but many of our distinguished leaders hire their spouses or their children to "work" for the campaign. Of course, the salaries paid are obscene to say the least. Such is the world of US politics. And Morris holds nothing back. He names names, complete with research and references. Corporations aren't safe, either. He points out how the insurance industry is ripping off the victims of hurricane Katrina, and how drug companies coerced Congress to allow them to advertise their drugs on television, thus boosting profits from sales of prescriptions that may not be necessary. He tackles immigration and national security, exposes the hypocrisy of the ACLU and gives quite an accurate depiction of the debacle and the glorious failure that is the United Nations, all backed up by in-depth research. But what adds to this book is that Morris doesn't just complain about these problems like so many pundits seem to do. No, Morris actually proposes solutions and his solutions are reasonable and make sense, which is probably why no one in Washington thought of them before. While the partisans bash and whine in unprecedented gridlock, all while fleecing the American treasury, Morris is pointing out serious problems and offering common sense, non-partisan, solutions. Now, if only we can make Congress read this book. "LIBs sniveling again", Never fails. Anyone criticizing a beloved LIB hero is trashed and dismissed as hacks and morons. Does anyone truly believe that the Clintons are not the lying, pandering, power-hungry mongrels that Dick Morris makes them out to be? Actually, this book is even-handed in that it takes to task many of the sacred cows on BOTH sides of the aisle. Of course, it is LIBs who come here to throw mud when their heros are taken to task. It is not a coincidence that many of those closest to the Clintons have said the same things about their methods, bully tactics and personal ambitions. Yet the LIBs love em. Why? Because it's all they have. Imagine if Nancy Pelosi was running...Where would she be in the polls? or Harry Reid? Great book, Dick Morris. Thank you for continuing to tell the TRUTH about the Clintons. ![]() |
