Others say...

"best toaster yet"
Over the years, I have discarded too many toasters to remember. Most of the popular brand-name toasters available are mediocre to poor in their performance. The biggest problems have been too little power and uneven toasting. My new Breville (3 months) is a big improvement over my past toasters in both respects. In addition, features such as "lift and look," "a bit more," and the bagel option (also works great on English muffins) are handy and really work. I am very difficult to please when it comes to kitchen appliances, and so far I have been extremely pleased by this toaster. Breville BTA820XL Die-Cast 2-Slice Smart Toaster

"Excellent simple and recommend to all"
We have always had a breville toaster and when we moved to the US and had to buy all new apliances we looked around and ended up with another breville, the new functions are all great and looks great on the bench the kids think the buttons are cool and the lit up timer. Worth paying the bit extra for how often you use it.

"A Good Idea Poorly Executed..."
A toaster, particularly a $129 toaster, should be expected to do one thing well - toast a piece of bread evenly! This Very Expensive toaster browned both pieces of bread much darker on the sides facing outward while the sides facing the center were lighter, and there's no "feature" fix for this. Also, this toaster does take about three times as long as my previous Sunbeam two-slice model did and much longer than most of today's less expensive toasters do that have heating elements that actually glow red hot - these nichrome ribbon elements are completely dim except for an occasional hot spot here or there. You should be advised that the toaster uses a three prong (grounded) plug, some older 1950's-60's kitchens may not have the proper/required outlet. And the end-of-toasting chime is so weak as to be inaudible from only three feet away. Maybe I just received a lemon (or other reviewers have yet to get past the initial "Wow" factor), but if you read other Breville model reviews it would appear that this uneven browning is an ongoing issue with most - if not all - of the Breville line of toasters. What A Shame - to get so close to perfection and then... quit! Makes you wonder... does anybody at Breville corporate headquarters actually test/use their products? What happened to QC??? So impress your friends (and perhaps yourself?) with all the bells and whistles, but the entertainment value will surely decline with time, you'll grow tired of the long wait for toast as your carpool buddies lay on the horn outside, and you'll still be left with unevenly toasted bread.

"Wow!!"
I always thought a toaster was just a toaster & I have owned dozens of toasters & used many others over the years. But, this thing rocks. It is an amazingly well thought out piece of machinery. It is so simple to use & works like a charm. Instructions not required. Leave it to the Aussies for design ingenuity & functionality. I highly recommend this for a two slice pop up toaster. (There is a four slice model as well.) Great features. This is well worth the price & has better features, functionality & quality, imo, than other far more expensive chi chi toasters from yesteryear that are still on the market or any other toasters I have ever used. I never would have thought that there could actually be a cool factor to a common toaster. Rock on Breville! Superb product.

"Great toaster that leaves no feature behind"
We love this toaster. We never have to worry about getting our toast or bagels done right. It looks great in our kitchen with the rest of our ss appliances. Also love the little bit more and smart chip technology. There simply is no other toaster that offers this many feature and benefits.

What our customer's say!

"Great toaster", This is a great toaster. I've been researching toasters for almost a year and had been spoiled by my 20 year old, self-lowering Sunbeam toaster. I tried the Braun 600 several months ago, but it performed poorly and was immediately returned. This Breville 2 slice Smart Die-Cast Toaster is wonderful. It's features are actually quite simple and not over-the-top with useless functions no one would ever use. It's a real winner.

"The best toaster I've ever used.", Breville comes thru again with a top quality toaster. In fact it's the best I've ever seen, or used. When you pick it up and find out how much it weighs, you know you're dealing with a toaster on a different level than you've ever dealt with before. Its all electronic contols get you the toast, bagels, etc. just the way you want. Toasters don't get any better than this one; in fact don't even come close.

"Best damn toaster . . .", This is the best damn toaster I have ever owned. Excuse my language, but it is hard to express ones delight over a toaster without getting a little emotional. And why get emotional over a toaster, well, one of the little items that can get in the way of a perfect day is having a toaster not do its job in the morning. We have gone through a new toaster every few years and buying a new one after some tragic morning incident. '

This is the tops. The plug is larger than most, because it's better than most. It sticks out maybe 1/2" more than a standard plug, but it's easier to remove from the outlet and speaks of quality. The toaster is wonderful, heavy duty, like one you would find at a professional restaurant. It is built solid, heavy metal and looks great.

The toaster does it's job and more. The bagel function is great, I even use it on my BLT's to toast one side of the bread and not the other. The automatic centering and lowering of the toast is excellent. The "little bit more" feature is cute and functional. My wife even has a hard time buring the toast, because she can get the exact browning she likes. The countdown LEDS really help when getting the toast out of the toaster when the eggs are done, I know exactly when the toast will be ready. And the chime remings me when the toast is done, because it is so quiet.

They should require the govenment to work this well!

"The Greatest", No pun intended, but this toaster is the best thing since sliced bread was invented! It is a tad expensive but worth every penny and we are hoping this is the last toaster we will ever buy so worth the money. You never have to touch it other than to add and remove the bread or bagel. It does all the work and the toasting is great. The little bit more and just a little longer feature are sheer genius, besides the toaster is built with some substance, not just a throw away like others we have seen. Happy Toasting!

"I Question the Price!", Although I do not own this toaster (yet), I have a concern over the "suggested list price of $160.00" now available for 129.00 as shown on Amazon's web site page for this item. I went to the Breville site and they show the MSRP as being 129.99, not 160.00.

Amazon's displayed pricing is misleading and inflated, then "discounted". You end up paying full price!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"The perfect toaster", It just works perfectly. Even toasting, self lowering and rising, Led lit buttons and controls. All the controls work as intended. Very few high end toasters actually do a good job - this one delivers. Very well made and beautifully finished.

"Super quality toaster", Super quality toaster. I highly recommend it. Works super. It has its own "brain" it seems. I just LOVE Breville, their quality is beyond any thing I have seen on the market.

"VERY nice toaster", In addition to the other features already mentioned about this toaster, I like the little "grabber things" which center uneven split bagles or English muffins in the slots right before they lower into the toaster. This prevents them from falling to one side in the slot, which would cause uneven toasting!

"Best toaster I've ever had!", This toaster is awesome - I love it! Besides looking cool and matching my stainless steel appliances, it works great! I love how by just pressing a button, the bread automatically gets lowered into the toaster. The illuminated LED panel allows lets you know where your bread is in the toasting cycle, plus it gives a little beep when it's done. The "little bit more" button allows you to toast your bread for just a little bit longer so you don't have to toast it for another cycle. A great toaster with some cool features, indeed!

"Outstanding Toaster", It is hard to believe a toaster could be made into an exciting product. I bought it after reading a product description in Wired magazine. Clearly some thought has been placed into what it takes to make a good toaster.
Nicest feature `Lift and Look' which gives one the ability to `peek' at the toast without disrupting the toasting cycle. The countdown LED is nice. Finally there is a `A Bit More' button allowing one to toast an item a bit more. :) Overall very clever device.
