"Great coffeemaker!!!"
This is the one if you're from Europe and appreciate good coffee at a great price. Espresso is really hot and the foam great!! All in all, this is a buy!!!

"Great until it stops working"
I had the same experience as CarrieG. It made great espresso for 3 months. Now it won't pump water. I haven't decided yet if I am going to send it back to the company yet so I can't comment on their customer service.

"The best espresso machine I owned."
This machine works great, it is heavy duty metal case and does delicious creamy espresso. This machine does not leak like the gaggia I tryed before and for the price it is far the best I used. If you get it from Amazon you will get the best service ever! The water tank on the back is removable to fill and clean, the water retention tank for the coffee drops below is also removable, easy to clean, big enough and of very good quality. The metal grill does not rust and the portafila is solid. Saeco is the perfect Italian espresso lover's machine and it is so solid that it's like it was German made and not Italian :) I checked a lot of brands, models and review and that's from far the best I found for the bucks. I owned fully automatic machines for 10x the price paid here and that one is doing better espresso than any of them... This machine is a hit!

"Great Machine"
If you are a begginer or noice to espresso making this machine is a great choice. After years (9) of my wife using a $40 Krups model, I gave her this machine for her birthday after seeing Alton Brown use it on his show "Good Eats." The machine performs great, always producing a nice head of crema. My wife loves it.

"No bells and whistles; just makes consistently great espresso."
I considered buying a better-looking Saeco machine then realized I would be paying $400 for the same functionality as this $150 Saeco model. This is a great little espresso maker...consistent, easy to use, easy to clean. Makes a nice double shot in about 15 seconds, comes out in a perfect thin stream just as it should. Beautiful crema. Reheats very quickly after brewing and steaming. The portafilter head is much heavier than the older comparable Saeco I owned, seems sturdier. My only complaint is the same as everyone else's, that the steamer arm doesn't bend, but once you realize not to overfill your milk container, it's no big deal.

This is a simple machine that works great day after day. Unless you need a BMW on your kitchen counter (the Sbux Sirena...) this will do the job for you, for a lot less money.

What our customer's say!

"simply the best coffee i've ever made!", I am thrilled with my new Saeco espresso maker; it makes perfect foamed milk, rich creme espresso and does so with ease. Functionally the machine works smoothly; no disadvantages that I've found in a month of everyday use.

There are two other vital factors in brewing the perfect cup; proper grinding of the coffee beans and of course the quality of the beans themselves. To complement my new Saeco I purchased the Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder which does an excellent job and YES it does make a noticable difference in the taste and quality of your coffee. In your search for the best beans, freshness is crucial; look for an organic, fair trade coffee roaster who date stamps their bag for freshness. I've experimented with alot of beans and have found that an extra dark french roasted bean creates a perfect cup of espresso for my morning latte. I can tell you this, if you follow this formula, you will likely not want to drink a Starbuck's ever again. Everyone will be coming over to your house for coffee. p.s. One more tip....contrary to popular habit, coffee beans lose their flavour when stored in the freezer - they are best stored at room temperature in a dark container so the beans are not exposed to light.

"Works as Advertised", Purchased as a replacement for a Gran Crema that didn't make it quite three years as it cost about the same for a new similar machine as it would to ship and repair the Gran Crema. Since this basically works as advertised this review is only for some quirks and unexpected behaviors. These are not really negative, just something unusual.

The warming tray is useless - too slow (half hour or more) and doesn't heat high enough.

The steam valve was moved to the center so it is now inconvenient for everyone, not just left-handed v. right-handed.

The ready lights are strangely wired - the light goes off when the programmed temperature is reached, and when the correct temperature is reached for steaming/frothing it is the light on the separate water pump/brew switch that goes out - this is the same switch that is used to report brewing status and operate the pump for drawing espresso.

Others have complained that the drip tray isn't deep enough for a frothing pitcher - I disagree and have found that a 20 ounce frothing pitcher sits nicely. The only thing is that the height between the top of the drop tray and the bottom of the brew group with portafilter installed is a bit low. This machine apparently is intended to be operated close to a sink for easier cleanup and control of spillage.

This machine uses a pickup tube to draw water from the tank and the setup is such that the water tank has to clear the entire height of the machine if removing the tank to fill or clean. My Gran Crema had a superior design in that you only had to lift the tank an inch or so to remove and took suction directly from the actual tank instead through a tube.

"Mmmm....espresso.", Just got this today...based off of Alton Brown's unofficial endorsement. I got the newer one (with 2 buttons in front and the power on the side, no flip switches). Made a few cups (ok, three...maybe that was a bit excessive). The instructions do suck...I'll admit that. Combined instructions in multiple languages don't help anyone...separate sections, please!! But the customer service was easy and the folks were nice. There's a container and a piece of wood...I was very confused, but they told me that's for dislodging the puck when it's done...slam the portafilter on the wood, used grounds come out. They told me to send steam through the wand to clear out the pipes...very useful as the first try with the portafilter didn't produce water. Also, this model has a self tamper...no need to manually tamp, and produced a puck at the end! And only fill 3/4 of the way with grounds (as far as I can tell, that's well below 15g). So far, it's great. Simple, small, and solid. Easy to use & clean. I haven't frothed yet. If anyone else has any issues/observations with the newer model, please let me know.

"Great machine, no reservations on recommending", Like everyone else, I did a fair amount of research as I tried to replace my last machine. All-in-all I think the reviews on Amazon are pretty accurate but I wanted to comment on a couple negative aspects that I read which almost stopped me from buying this machine.

1. I read a couple of reviews that said coffee came out of the top/sides and not the bottom holes. This happens only if you fill it with too many grounds. Example: I needed to fill my last espresso maker's 2-shot screen flush to top. On this machine you can only fill it 2/3's up or so with grounds. Very easy to figure out and deal with. Of course your grind is important too but that's obvious and needs to be figured out for every machine.

2. The steaming/frothing wand. Yes it does not lift up so very little clearance to stick milk under it without slopping and the plastic auto-frother creates too much foam before milk is hot. SOLUTION: the plastic auto-frother easily comes off to reveal a simple metal tube with plenty of clearance. I do not believe I read this anywhere and is a very important feature for those like myself who prefer to create foam by hand.

I really doubt you can do better unless you jump to the $600+ level.

"Sturdy, easy to use and clean, makes great espresso. Will buy this over Saeco Spidem Villa", This machine is easy to use and clean, and makes great espresso. It does not grind coffee beans so you need a stand-alone grinder or may buy ground coffee (for espresso machines). It has a small footprint and is aesthetically pleasing. At about half the price of the fully automatic Saeco Spidem Villa, this sure is a better buy.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"great stuff", Saeco 30013 Aroma Traditional Espresso Machine: Works great! I have no complaints about any part of the machine or workings.

"Great Coffee, while it lasts", This machine makes great coffee. Easy to use, espresso is flavorful and very creamy. It produces great espresso with any nice ground coffee. Makes a lot of foam, although the foamer dripped a little too much water for my taste, making the milk somewhat watery... but foamy. I was very happy with it anyhow for the first month and a half, using it daily. One day it started leaking, instead of dripping water through the coffee, the water was leaking by the side of the pressure chamber. I just returned it. For me the best costumer service is the one I do not need to use.

"Good & simple machine (but bad instructions)", I just bought this machine after reading several reviews. This is my second espresso machine, and it makes exceptional coffee with perfect crema (coffee foam). For the discounted price is a good deal.

The only difficulty I had was with the instructions. First, make sure the portafilter is tightly put. The first few times with the machine, you have to push it a little hard. The handle should come facing towards you, aligned with the indicator in the top. If not water will leak and the coffee will loose flavor. From the instruction booklet, this is not so clearly explained. Some reviewers complain about water leaks, and I think this might be the reason.

Next, make sure to make a few runs with just water when you get the machine. There is some coffee residue from testing, and also dust, etc. This way you can also practice placing the portafilter. They ship a few extra parts with the machine, including a piece of wood (!). If you want you can use coffee pods with the coffee pod adapter (Lavazza sells some good pods, although pricy. Unfortunately you cant use the Nespresso capsules here...)

Other than that, enjoy! I try changing beans and blends regularly, and I can enjoy gourmet coffee at a very cheap price... Where I live, the mexican market sells brazilian and colombian coffee beans, which are pretty good at a very affordable price ($5 to $8 for a pound or two). Of course, some italian roasts are perfect (illy), but you pay for them. Anyway, you can easily save the $2 to $3 you pay for an espresso daily... For the $140 price above, you will have paid for the machine in 4 months!

My first machine was a $40 Mr. Coffee... It is ok for starters, but you can never get the flavor of the different blends (hey, for a $40 machine, don't buy a $40 bag of coffee...), and it is quite easy to burn the coffee... After getting the Saeco Aroma, I can essentially make coffee house quality espresso and capuccinos.

"Saeco Aroma", I had the machine only two months when it broke. The water would no longer push through to make espresso. I sent it back and they returned it broken. I sent it back again and they still returned it broken. I sent it back a third time and requested that they replace it or not send it back at all, and they sent me the old machine back again. It does work now, but they had my machine for two months on and off. I only had it for two months before it broke. Their customer service has been inexcusable. This machine, when it works, is lovely. It makes great espresso and great foam, but I would not recommend buying this product. The company is unhelpful and unsympathetic to the customer needs.

"If my house was on fire, I'd rescue my Saeco", I've had Tassimo, and Krups, but this is the one for me.
It is simple, reliable and makes wonderful coffee. My wife and I use it every single day and I've had it for over a year. I use it with senseo coffee&espresso pods which can be purchased for around 19cents/pod. I rarely use the steamer, but I have used it and it does work.
Incidentally, I think this was the machine (with the brand name hidden) that was endorsed on the food network's show good eats.
To summarize, the machine is sturdy and solid, and it quickly and cost-effectively delivers excellent hot coffee every single day.
