Others say...
"Excellent Quality Item" This is an extremely useful, extremely durable dish. I have already found a ton of uses for it, including marinating meats and portabello mushrooms for the grill, refrigerating salads for transport to picnics, etc. The easy to clean surface of this dish coupled with the durability of the material, means that I will be using and enjoying this product for years to come! Highly recommended! "Love it!" I've been using CorningWare daily for years. Small plates, big plates, bowls... What I like about CorningWare products is that its microwave safe, and can survive a light fall to the ground. I was delighted when I saw that Amazon made this product available to review. Pros: As the product name indicates, this item is "SimplyLite," which is definitely a plus. Another pro to this item is the clear lid which allows you to see the contents of the dish when you have it stored. Continuing with tradition, the product is sturdy, and microwave safe. Cons: My gripes is that the lid is difficult to remove. It took quite a bit of effort to remove it. Another con, which is common with lots of their large items is that it does not have stacking feet, for stacking up in the fridge easily. Despite the cons listed, I love the upgrades to their great line of products, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. "Amazingly Light!" I use a lot of CorningWare and other ceramic baking dishes. I love them but they do tend to be heavy, so I was especially interested to try out the new CorningWare SimplyLite dish. When I took it out of the box, it is noticeably lighter...so light that I wondered if it would hold up in the oven/dishwasher and it did. The dimensions are an odd size, approx. 12x9 so I had to adjust my baking time a few minutes but it did a great job. And I loved the plastic top, made it perfect for baking and then storing in the same dish. Cleaned up great in the dishwasher too. Overall a terrific new addition to the CorningWare line. "It's okay. Not great, not awful. Okay." I'd finally managed to break the 9x12" Chantal dish I'd used for ten years, so when Amazon Vine gave me the opportunity to review CorningWare's 2-quart baking dish, I saw it as a great way to get a replacement. Now that I've used it... well, it's okay. The first thing that struck me about this dish is that it's very lightweight. It doesn't feel precisely flimsy, but... well, maybe it does. The company promises that this uses "a proprietary advanced material made of three layers of glass which produces a bakeware with a durability far exceeding that of any single glass composition" which is also a third the weight of what I'm used to. Okay. I'll believe them. Maybe it's strong. It still made me feel nervous. The dish gets very good marks for cleanup. I intentionally made something gloppy that tends to burn on: homemade tuna-noodle casserole. (We make a *mean* tuna-noodle casserole. No canned mushroom soup here! And plenty of cheese to bake on to any self-respecting dish.) It practically wiped clean, without any help from the dishwasher. This model comes with a plastic lid, however, and that darned lid lost it at least a full point on this review. First, I hate the idea of a plastic lid on a baking dish; SOMEONE is going to stick it in the oven, you _know_ that. But mainly -- the lid goes on with a tight seal. With a VERY tight seal. With a seal so tight that I had to get a screwdriver to pry it off, and even so I had to wrestle with it. That's okay for a solid tuna casserole; but if I'd made something liquid it would have been a mess. I don't think I'm going to try the lid again. For the price, this baking dish might be a good value. But I'm not going to rush out to buy more in the same product line. "Real NICE dish! " Feels like the real thing to me! Very nice - stylish - with a seal tight lid! My only complaint if I really had to stretch to find one would be that the lid is a bit TOO tight. We had a few of us trying to get it off! It did loosen up a smidge after using it a few times. I love it and will certainly look forward to purchasing another size and make a set!

What our customer's say! "Every home should have one.", This little item I have used for numerous things in a microwave and a convection oven. Many many advantages. Lightweight, size is easy to store, cleans up well by hand or in the dishwasher (I have always done the lid by hand), nice enough to go from oven to table then put the lid on and store in the frig. You really can't beat this item. Very versatile, attractive, lightweight, easy to store. I highly recommend to any amatuer or professional cook.... and all those in between. "baking ware as light as a frisbe. ", This is a nice little baking dish. It's so light that you may question if it is really oven safe, but it works great. Furthermore, it's non-stick and cleans up incredibly easy. I also like the plastic lid that comes with the dish. It's perfect for the holidays, when you need to transport your food to the relatives house. Obviously you can't use the lid in the oven, but anyone with half a brain should be able to figure that one out (plus it warns against such a thing on the lid). It looks really fragile, but it claims to be break and crack resistant. "The weight difference is no joke", I gave this to my mom, who does a lot of cooking. She likes CorningWare a lot, so when I saw that they had a new, lightweight line out, I picked up two items for her -- the SimplyLite 2-Quart Baking Dish and the 1-1/2-Quart Casserole. At first she was suspicious of the dishes because they are remarkably light (she pulled out some older CorningWare to show me the weight difference). I think she thought they would be very fragile. But she's used them three times now, and she says they cook and brown just like her old CW dishes. She says she didn't think the old CorningWare dishes she has used for years were heavy until she used this new line, and now the old stuff feels heavy to her. It was a nice surprise. She really likes the tight-fitting lids, too, as she does a lot of cooking for her church and having the plastic lids is nice when transporting the dishes in her car. The dishes are dishwasher-safe, but she hasn't tried washing the lids themselves in the dishwasher yet as she has a fear the plastic might warp and no longer hold a tight fit. (I'm not saying the lids won't hold their shapes, I'm saying I'll probably never find out because she'll never find out.) Also, as mentioned in other reviews, CorningWare says these items should not be used when broiling. I imagine that's a downer for people who would like to bake, say, enchiladas in the dish and give them a quick broil before taking them out of the oven. My mom hasn't yet complained about not being able to broil with these dishes and since she cooks all sorts of things, I'm assuming the problem isn't really too great. It was nice to give her a cooking-related gift that she didn't even know she needed. "Shockingly light, excellent cooking properties. Beware the plastic lid.", When this came in the mail, I thought Amazon had sent me the wrong thing. The box was simply too light to possibly contain a GLASS 2 quart CorningWare baking dish + cover. I figured they'd sent me something made of plastic. But no, I was wrong and happily surprised: The dish is glass--just a new layered approach that allows a much lighter but fully functional dish to be manufactured. In a few cooking tests (casserole, cornbread, macaroni & cheese) I found the cooking properties to be excellent and comparable to those of a heavier traditional piece of CorningWare. Cleanup was straightforward and certainly no worse than traditional glassware. On the whole, I am very satisfied. One complaint: The cover is plastic and is not oven safe. I know they used a plastic lid to save on weight (a traditional glass lid would make the whole package MUCH heavier), but a non-oven-safe lid is just an accident waiting to happen. "Light enough, but the lid is killer", While this item is roomy and light enough to move one-handed, the lid seals so tightly that it is very difficult to remove. Attempting to remove it from a very full dish results in a huge mess. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "A Genuine Upgrade in Bakeware Well Worth Replacing Your Old Glass Dish", This is a terrific enhancement to current bakeware - a 50%-lighter baking dish that survives microwave as well as conventional and convention ovens. Now that I have made both vegetarian lasagna and a Brown Betty in it, I can safely assert that it bakes as well as any other Corningware piece I've ever owned. What's nice is that it's almost as light as Tupperware, so it makes transporting dishes to potlucks and such a lot easier than in the past. I may have to get the three-quart version and give away my clunky, oil-greased glassware. "Wished came w/ glass lid too", This is a nice sized lighter weight baking dish. I accidentally dropped it and it did not break, so it seems to have the same durability as regular CorningWare. It cleaned easily in the dishwasher and did not stain w/ pasta sauce. The plastic lid fits very securely. It would be nice if they would add a glass lid to bake with in the oven. If you like CorningWare, yet desire lighter weight, this is the product to buy. When the other sizes are on a gold box special I will get other pieces and donate my older CorningWare to charity. "You Can't Go Wrong w/Corning Ware", This baking dish is great! It's a nice change from the heavier dishes of the past. Clean up is a breeze. And the fact that it has it's own cover is a nice extra addition. I had to hide it from my Mom when she came over. I will definitely be purchasing more! You Can't Go Wrong w/Corning Ware. "Startlingly light", I was pleasantly surprised when I lifted this item out of its shipping carton. It really is significantly lighter than other glass cooking dishes of the same size. The tight-fitting lid is also quite light making this an easy-to-use duo for most people. The only quibble I'd have with it is that the lid is, initially at least, almost too tight-fitting. I had trouble removing it. Both dish and lid clean up easily. Both went through the dishwasher with no problems, so no fear that it's some sort of delicate item. However, the dish cannot be used under a broiler or on a stove top. I love the look of the unit. It's very clean and elegant, and even the lid design contributes to the over-all sophisticated appearance. This one looks like a real winner. "Great Item. Very Light, and Durable. Worth The Price.", I will say, at first, I thought "what's the big deal" regarding the weight of this baking dish. That was until I actually held it in my hand and FELT the difference. It's amazing really. At first, I would have thought it was plastic, that is how light it feels. It's not plastic, it's just great CorningWare on the Light side. Using the dish was great - baking in it was easy, no uneven spots and clean-up was simple. The plastic lid is a tight fit, perfect for storing. Most importantly though, I think this item and the whole CorningWare "SimplyLite" product line would be great for people with hand strength issues, be it arthritis or just smaller hands. Big thumbs up on this dish - it's CorningWare all the way, and the weight improvement is nothing but positive. I'll be getting additional SimplyLite items whenever I need more cookware. ![]() |
