Others say...
"Compost Pail, filters and bio bags" I purchased 2 pails (1 gallon size) with extra filters and the biodegradable bags, 1 for my daughter and her husband and 1 for me since we are both trying to compost anything we can. I am very pleased with how easy it is to use and keep clean. Usually I keep it next to my sink so I can just dump all the stuff right in the pail while I'm trimming veggies or cleaning plates. The filters really do keep it odorless and the bio bags make emptying a breeze. The bags also help keep the pail as clean as possible. I don't feel I have to hide the pail when folks come to visit, although it fits right under my kitchen sink in the lower cabinet just fine. "way better than plastice" this product is so much better than the plastic snap top kitchen compost pail that came with my composter. the filters keep the odor under control. we originally did not get the biodegradeable bags, but taking the pail out to the composter in the snow was not a good scene. cleans easily. bags are a good option and cheap enough to get. "Great value" I used a ceramic pot for years, and when it finally broke, I bought this one. It's easier to clean, inside and out, and the filters make any odor non-existent. I'm very happy with my new compost pot, and I don't think it will be breaking any time in the near future... "Fantastic Product Makes Composting Easy" I've had a composting bucket like this for years and loved it. The charcoal filter in the lid works really well, and it looks handsome next to the kitchen sink. It really makes collecting kitchen scraps for compost easy. I bought this latest one to give my dad as a present. He loves it, too. The "fit and finish" is not nearly as good as on my old one -- too bad -- but it's still a great product. "It's a beauty!" It's sturdy & looks much nicer on our counter than the old cottage cheese containers we were using! Plus the bail makes it much easier to haul to the compost pile & dump.

RSVP International Endurance Stainless Steel Compost Pail 1-gal.
Why I buy this one ? - Material: 18/8 Stainless Steel - Origin: China - Capacity: 1-gallon What our customer's say! "Excellent product", My old compost pail was a plastic bin that would smell of compost and breed fruit flies non-stop! As much as I love composting, it was hard to bear with the old solution. Plus, this one is more pretty. This new pail is a dream! It's one solid piece of metal so there are no connecting points for rust or fruit flie larvae to live in. The filters up top work very, very well to keep the smells down. The lid fits snug but not so snug that you have to wrestle to get it open. I take out my compost once a week and then rinse the whole thing in hot water before using it again. So far, zero fruit flies, zero smells, and more successful compost! "Great little pail", It is such a pleasant experience when you order something online and its arrives a nicer product than expected. I keep this on the kitchen counter next to the sink, and no matter how long the waste has been in the pail, the filters mask the smell. The pail is of good quality materials, is sturdy, and blends in nicely with my other stainless appliances, too. "Perfect for my Compost Needs and pretty to Boot", I purchased the pail via Amazon over a year ago and I love having it around. I decided to splurge on the stainless steel really for the aesthetic quality, but I can see now it makes clean up much easier. I can be very bad about remembering to take my pail contents out to my compost bin - but the pail does a great job preventing odors to seep out. I can say this without hesitation as I've gone four weeks without dumping it. It's very easy to clean - I just use water and soap - and the charcoal inserts work well. Over all I'm thrilled with my garden purchase. "still a bit smelly", Before I had this pail, I just used an open bowl for the kitchen waste. This is definately more decorative and for the most part less smelly. However, my waste tends to stay in the pail longer and being enclosed it produces much more mold and smell inside the pail. I have noticed that the charcoal filter itself becomes quite stinky only after a few weeks. I think you are going to have to replace the filter much more often than recommended. "Gets the job done & looks nice doing it", This is a fantastic little bucket! After almost two months of use there is nothing I would change about the RSVP Compost Pail. No problem with fruit flies or stink so far; I empty it once or twice a week, rinse it out and let it air-dry before I put the lid back on. We generally keep it under the sink but it looks nice enough to leave out on the counter. My in-laws have had one for almost a year and love it too. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Good", Keeps smell in container. Large enough to hold scraps for several days. Seems sturdy enough to last. We are happy with this purchase. "Fruit fly infestation!", I have had this composter for about a month. It replaced an old tupperware container that worked fine but wasn't very nice to look at. I will admit this device is nice shiny stainless steel and seems to be of good construction. However I am beginning to suspect that it came stocked with several million fruit fly eggs. My house is full of fruit flies! They are even flying around my head while I'm brushing my teeth in my bathroom. In fact, they seem to love hanging around my damp bath towel as it hangs to dry. My kitchen is full of the little critters. We have lots of guests and it is embarrassing to have to explain why a swarm of bugs is hovering over their breakfast plates. My shiny new composter is now sitting outside the back door. I have banished it from the house. I don't know how to break the reproductive cycle of these little critters but I am willing to use whatever chemicals necessary to be fruit fly free. I am going back to my trusty old sealing lid tupperware container. The RSVP International Stainless Steel Compost Pail is a poorly designed food scrap collector. Food scraps do not need to breathe. There is plenty of time for that once they reach the outdoor composter. "TOP QUALITY COMPOST PAIL", This item looks good, is well built, and above all, does the job. Very happy with my purchase. "Works great no bugs.", I like this a lot. It is very stylish and what may seem to be a disadvantage I believe to be a big advantage, it's not too big. I have not had the issues with fruit bugs as others have had but I would recommend emptying it more often. When you keep it until it is full you are inviting smell and bugs. If you empty it every three or four days I found no problem. Also you can put a large rubber band arount the top lid and it can act as a seal when it is closed. I think it's build very well and very easy to rinse out and clean. "Great Product! Odor Free", This is a great product. I purchased it 6 months ago and I a still very happy with it. Looks great on the counter and makes composting much less of a chore. It's large enough to hold about a weeks's worth of vegetable scraps for our family of 3 (and we eat a good amount of vegetables). When emptied 1 -2 times per week the contents of the pail remain odor and fly free. Even when we accidentally forgot to empty the pail before leaving on vacation for two weeks, we returned to an odor free, fly free kitchen. (The carbon filters did a great job of keeping the odors in the pail, and after a quick wash with the garden hose all was good again). Another great feature of this design is that the pail is made of one piece of stainless steel. There are no seams to break or leak, so I expect that this pail will last for years and years. I don't use a liner in the pail and after 6 months of continuous usage there are no signs of corrosion. I'd like to address a couple of comments from the negative reviews. 1) This pail is certainly not designed for actually composting anything. It's designed to be an interim storage container. For easy composting in a small space I recommend the worm factory. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HWX8PY 2) The holes on top are a great design feature, they let air in which is very important for preventing bad odors. In the presence of oxygen, decomposition will have an earthy smell. Without oxygen you will have anerobic decomposition. Anerobic bacteria are the culprits that produce those very bad sulferous odors. 3) Fruit flies can occur as a result of eggs that are present on the skins of fruits and vegetabls that are placed in the pail. In my experience the flies CANNOT get past the carbon filters. To solve the problem of fruit flies, simlply empty the bin frequently (2x per week is enough) or, microwave vegetable matter before putting it into the bin. If you do notice flies in your bin, empty it, remove the filters and rinse them off to remove any fly larve then wipe the inside surface of the lid clean before replacing the filters. This should solve the fly problem. ![]() |
