Others say...
"Get some perspective about life" I'm a pet lover, but really, is putting a dog to sleep the worst tragedy that's ever happened in the author's life? He devotes about two paragraphs to his aging parents with health problems whom he rarely visits, while agonizing about whether he should have gotten the dog an MRI. Go visit your parents and ask how they are doing! And are we supposed to be sympathetic that the family just couldn't enjoy their trip to the Bahamas because they were worried about the sick dog? Cry me a river. "Thoughts on "Sprite"" I lost an amazingly loveable Dalmation named Roosevelt in July 2008, and I think Mr. Levin's book was very helpful. While there was some sorrow during the reading, it helped to realize that many people out there feel as my family and I do about how wonderful and childlike a dog really can be...and feel the same pain as we do when they leave us. As some others have mentioned, the content here is better than the execution of the writing. While Levin may not have the command of telling a story that some do, his attempt here to convey his joy and sorrow over Sprite will hit home with those of us who "get it" over the loss of our best friend. "Book will make you cry and laugh " I bought this book as I am a dog lover. This book will make you cry and laugh. I have read other dog books and this one is not the best of the best, but is a good one "heartwarming" As an owner of an older dog, this book had me in tears the entire time. While it's not eloquently written and rather short, it just hit me in the heart. The love this man has for this little dog is one that any true dog lover can relate to. The way he had to face Sprite's fate was very real. It's a process to face the mortality of someone you love so much. While it was a sad goodbye to Sprite, you are able to see the healing process begin for the author. "just pitiful" I love dogs, I love a good cry, I was ready to enjoy this book. I downloaded it on my Kindle. The book was self indulgent, self serving, ridiculous and corny. The author seems to have been insulated from life to such a degree that he is absurd. Parts of the book are all about bragging that he knows Rush Limbaugh, who he presents as Mr. Sensitive and the rest is just such a weak presentation of what could have been a lovely story. It was a surprise to me that someone in the business of writing could do such a bad job.

What our customer's say! "A good dog story", Who doens't like a great dog story? I know I do. Rescuing Sprite is just that. I admire Mark Levin and the love he has for his dogs Pepsi and Sprite. It takes a special family to adopt an older dog. I found most of the novel to be general and generic discriptions of his life with the dogs, and I wish we got to know more about who the dogs were and some of the adventures with them. I feel like it was missing that for the reader- the essence of who the dogs were. We all love our dogs, but it's missing the things that make books like Grogan's Marley and Me so awesome. If you really want to read a great dog book read that one. This one was not a page turner since I felt like Levin just recounted events rather than roped you into a story. Still, it's moving the emotion he had for his animals. "Why Did He Write This?", I love dogs and I love books about dogs, but this one stinks. Sorry. "Read this if you ever loved and lost a dog", The dogs I have grieved most intensely over, I realize, have been the ones I who were in my life the shortest amount of time. Perhaps it is the deep wish that more time could have been granted to me with these dogs. So it was I think with Mark, who had only two short years with Sprite, and whose detailed expression of grief was more pure and honest and heart-wrenching than any I could ever imagine. This man has given us a gift of his love and devotion, and his book is a tribute not only to Sprite but to all of us who have ever felt what he did. The reviewers who didn't read the book all the way through missed the most valuable part of it -- it wasn't about the dog himself, with all kinds of amazing and enjoyable cute "stories", but about Mark's FEELINGS about this dog, expressed so incredibly well as Sprite's days came to an end. I think this will be a catharsis for many readers who have gone through the same thing fighting the pain all the way. The only way to deal with it is to let yourself feel it. This will help, I know it will. It helped me. "Great read for animal lovers", I loved this book. It made me laugh and cry, and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. "Not received yet", I have not received this book as of yet so cannot give it a review ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Therapeutic and healing after losing my best "friend" this summer.", I purchased the book after losing my favorite of three Labradors to a disease that took her in less than three days after my initial visit to our vet. I had just done an agility match with her less than a month earlier. I had no idea she was ill. Losing Tara so unexpectedly fast, had a very hard impact on me and I couldn't seem to come to terms with all that had happened. A friend recommended the book because he had listened to the radio broadcaster and had heard about the response by so many other grieving pet owners. He thought it might help me cope. I read and cried and read and cried my way through the book. As bad as my lose was, my neighbor across the street lost his dog seven days after mine. After I was through, with tears in my eyes I took the book to him and he thanked me because, even though he cried all through the book, it helped him with his grief. Thank you Mark Levin for writing a book that made me realize that, My grief was not so far out in left field that I was different from other people that lose their best "friend". Pamela Bishop "Heartfelt story", I'm not much of a book reader...........but after hearing favorable reviews on Shawn Hannity's radio talk show, I decided to purchase Mark Levin's "Rescuing Sprite" hoping that it would help my wife and I to deal with the recent loss of our beloved cat Cheyenne. The book was all that Shawn spoke of and more. Mark wrote this book from the heart and as any animal lover can attest to..........losing a beloved pet is one of the most difficult things in life to go thru. If you love your pet, or have recently have had to deal with the loss of one.........you must read this book. "Emotional Animal Story", A beautiful, moving story about an animal that is an important, very much loved part of the family. "Goes Straight to the Heart", Extremely touching tale of a dog and his family. Sprite was rescued as an older dog and taken in to a loving home. Through the words of Mark R. Levin we grow to know and love Sprite and his fur-brother Pepsi. Both dogs immediately make their way into our hearts and we travel along with Levin and his family (both furry and human) as they struggle with medical issues and the sadness of letting go. The book was hard to put down and yet so difficult to read at times. I found my heart breaking along with Levin's. Yet at the same time, my heart swelled with happiness in knowing that Sprite had such a loving home. It's a sad, yet beautiful tale of a dog and his affect on the lives of those around him. Having two dogs of my own, it doesn't surprise me how much joy an animal can bring into our lives. I'd recommend this book to all dog lovers, and especially those that have lost a loved pet in the past. But be sure to have a tissue or two handy as there are definite teary-eyed moments. "I wanted to love this book", I am dog lover and animal rescuer, have been through the horrendous anguish of having beloved animals die or be euthanised....I wanted so much to cry my way through this book. But it was a dispassionate laundry list of "how I felt" and "what we did". Instead of investing the writing with the gut-wrenching feelings that we go through, Mr. Levin wrote these third party "through the retrospectragraph" descriptions. "We were saddened." Yeah well duh - pull my heart out, make the tears fall - give me the words that provoke the feeling - don't tell me what you felt....make me FEEL IT for pete's sake. The cover of the book was more passionate than the writing. ![]() |
