Others say...
"Wonderful, but" I love this oven. The only time I use my standard oven is when this is too small. There have been a couple of other microwaves in between, but esentially this replaces an earlier Sharp Microwave Convection. I didn't roast a perfect chicken from the time the first one died (after 10-12 years) and the time I bought this one. One thing I don't see mentioned is that it's good for setting yeast bread to rise. Set the oven on 100 and set a cup of water in with it for extra humidity. I love all of the things that this does. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the two things that my old one did that this (as far I've been able to figure) doesn't. I miss the humidity sensor (so that when my water was boiling the oven stopped) and the thermometer. That one wasn't so much for meat, since the oven does well at cooking meat to the desired doneness if you give it the correct weight (if you stuff your chicken, make sure you include that weight to get the stuffing to a safe temperature). I used the thermometer to get soup to my favorite temperature, to heat things to lukewarm or to scald milk. I miss those very much, but this is still the oven I would buy. I'd pay, if I could, another $100 for those two features, but this was a great buy for the price. "3.5 years later...DEAD!" After three and a half years of relatively good service, this unit is now dead. Went to heat up some milk for my coffee like I do on most days and POP! No power. Called Sharp since at least the magnetron should still be under warranty but they couldn't help. They just referred us to some local repair shops. Called one of the repair shops and the guy said it sounded like the power supply had blown out and that can range anywhere from $75-150 to fix it. So...pretty much not worth it to get it repaired, unfortunately! So, unless you plan on doing a lot of the direct heat and convection cooking, which we really didn't, save some money and get a cheaper unit that won't break the budget when you have to replace it. By the way, the popcorn setting on this thing really doesn't work all that well. It seems no matter what brand of popcorn we bought, or whether or not we used the popcorn setting, it always wanted to burn. I think it's the metal tray. The one time I tried using a glass pie dish turned upside down, it seemed to work better. But I'd always forget to get it out to use again. Just a heads up! "My 3rd Sharp product" I have owned 3 Sharp Convection/Microwave ovens over the past 25 years. They are the only one that I will buy. This last oven is a little smaller than the rest but performs as well as the others. Most of the functions are the same as I had before with a few added ones such as the "grill". I have only had this product for about a month but I wouldn't have any other. "Replacement for Panasonic Dimention 4 " Convection microwaves of this size are less available as time passes. This unit was purchased to replace a 14 year old Panasonic used in an RV where the size is critical. This unit fitted the old Panasonic "built-in" frame. The unit functions and cooks very well. The microwave seems to have less power than the Panasonic and the slightly smaller cooking cavity restricts pan size. Good value for the money. The rotating tray in convection mode is a restrictive characteristic. I recommend this unit for a space restricted convection / microwave need. "convection microwave" i LOVE this oven. i live on a boat and don't have much room and this was the perfect choice. it is so fast & easy to use. the first big thing i cooked was a rib roast....i was so surprised how crispy it turned out AND JUICY DELICIOUS.

Sharp 900-Watt 0.9 Cubic Foot Convection Microwaves
What our customer's say! "great buy", it is a great micro-conv oven the only thing is that for the price you pay it is quite small in the inside "GREAT COMBO OVEN", This product replaced TWO others: a microwave only, and a toaster oven. Although this is a convection oven, I don't notice that any foods cook quicker than they did in my old toaster oven or regular oven for that matter. But it does do both microwaving and regular cooking well, and it's sooo convenient to have only ONE thing on my counter instead of TWO!! I do recommend it, and KUDOS to AMAZON once again, I ONLY order online from them, always quick deliveries with NO problems. This is one of MANY items I've purchased from AMAZON including my beautiful new 52" Samsung LCD TV, which I received in perfect condition and saved a bundle of $$$ on! Thanks, AMAZON, you have a REAL and LOYAL FRIEND here! "Excellent microwave and roaster", This microwave has many features, some of which I have tested. Mainly we purchased this for basic food reheating, but the roasting function has proven to be quite handy as well. This microwave is not sufficient to make toast, however, it works well to toast things like nuts. What this microwave is really good at is roasting meat (we have tried chicken and turkey) as a substitute for normal oven cooking. I am pretty sure that it is more energy efficient to cook meat this way, it is also substantially faster. And when it comes to cooking dinner, faster is definitely better. Some features which many annoy some: the turntable always spins, and it interior is not very large. These are things that are just fine with me. For anyone who lives in a very small space and does not have a proper oven, this would be a very fine substitute. "Works great", This unit takes a little getting used to as it is significantly different than my old unit which was at least 7 years old. Some great features here the defrost is exceptional defrosting without cooking the food. Popcore works fine however as per the instructions you must have an upside down pie plate for it to cook correctly. If you don't it does not pop all the corn. reheating dishes is exceptionally easy and the electronics are pretty intuitive after a short period of use. Overall a great unit for the $. "Sharp oven", The oven works good except therdoor sticks. sharp said it is due to the oven being mounted over ther stoce. The mfg. installed it and we can not move it. My wife does not use the oven and the stove top at the same time. This is inconventent but it works. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "New size", My first Sharp Convection microwave was 30% larger and lasted for 10 years. My second was the same model but it did not last nearly as long. I did not pay to repair it the second time it failed to work. This new size, model R-820Bk, is smaller but for two people it is fine. I would never want to have a plain microwave again. For us, it saves heating a big oven for a meal for two. The results with the convection mode are much better than that of a 'toaster oven'. This newer size should tempt more people to try this appliance. You can do a lot more in the counter space it occupies that a microwave only. And it was only a little more that half the price of the larger ones. I am glad I had this choice this time. "Quality Product", Sharp R-820Bw 900-Watt 0.9-Cubic-Foot Convection Microwave, WhiteAttractive compact appliance with easy to use features, both programmed and manual. Especially liked compact size which is adequate for nearly all cooking needs. Would like option to stop turntable. "Sharp R-820BK Convection Microwave.", I purchased the Sharp Convection Microwave to replace the one in my Pace Arrow Moter Home, Class A 36 ft long. I received the order with no damage to the product. Being that the product was identical in everyway to the one that came with the motor home it fit perfect into the cabinet above the stove. I removed the damaged microwave and installed it myself with a little help from my neighbor. It works perfectly with no defects. I recomend this item. Dale McNall-Retired Engineer. "great for small items", I really like this oven/microwave for reheating and baking small items - a few biscuits, a small batch of cookies. The heat is very consistent, although I find you must add a few minutes to any baking time in order to get the right amount of browning. Much better than heating up the full-size oven in my range! "crispy baquettes!", Great convection microwave. The screen is a little difficult to read at times...but who really needs another clock in the kitchen anyways? Preheat time is a little lengthy. Patience is key. This product is great for heating just about any food. ![]() |
