Others say...
"Love this chair...still do" Hated my old plastic chair. In comparison, this one is easier to clean, sturdy, fits nicely, and is attractive. He doesn't look like he can bust out of the chair. Baby can reach his food and sit up. His feet look so relaxed resting on the ledge. It's a bit of a challenge to get him into the chair, but getting out is easy. I'm looking forward to watching him grow with this chair. ***Update*** Chair is still great. No problems. My 2 1/2 year old still enjoys it and the chair pads we bought with the chair are still fine. Now to buy another one for my 4 month old or transition the first one to an adult chair. Hmmmm... "Great investment!" We purchased this high chair when our daughter was approximately 6 months old, and she is now a year old. This is a terrific high chair. I like the fact that we will be using this for a long time, as it can convert to a toddler chair. It goes well with our kitchen furniture. It can easily be pulled up to your kitchen table if you do not want to use the tray and have the child sit at the table with the rest of the family, just be sure to buckle him/her in. My only complaint, like someone has already mentioned, is that there are a couple of tight crevices in which crumbs can get into that are impossible to clean. You will basically have to take the chair apart (unscrew some nuts and bolts) if you really want to get into those crevices. That is the ONLY negative about the chair. All other areas are very easy to clean. My daughter really likes the chair. "swan versus stokke" I bought this chair for my 6 month old and the stokke chair for my toddler. While I do like both chairs, they are so much better than the stupid bulky plastic highchairs, and I kinda like the swan better for it's curved look, the stokke is a better chair. The problem is the crevices that are created by the way the chair is put together: they are IMPOSSIBLE to clean. The stokke has no such crevices. The other problem is the sturdiness. The swan has a single stem that supports the seat in the center, while the stokke seat is supported on either side of the seat. We just removed the highchair 'cage' part of the chair and I was using it the same way I use the stokke. I don't know if the seat actually can support adult weight but it certainly doesn't feel like it can. There was ominous creaking and swaying. The stokke feels like a chair and I never hesitate to plop down in it. Those are my major complaints-- but my youngest does now seem to prefer the stokke because she can very easily climb into it due to its wide seat bases. There is one problem with the stokke-- the base of the legs, which extend parallel to the floor do stick out enough to trip my husband every time if the chair is in a path. I would recommend both chairs but I wanted people to know the ups and downs I had discovered. "Fabulous chair" We were hesitant to buy this chair without seeing it in person. We also wondered whether we might be crazy to spend so much money on a high chair. But, we took a chance and invested the $$, and we couldn't be happier! This is a great chair. It took about 45 minutes to put together, and the directions were pretty straight forward. We bought the chair pad in sage (it is a true sage green), and are very glad we did. It would be really uncomfortable without the padding. The chair is very modern and fits in perfect with our modern kitchen table in cherry (it is a reddish cherry). With our son in the chair, he sits right at eye level. The tray is plenty big, and easy to clean with water and paper towels. We do not remove the tray, and instead just slide our little guy into the chair. The tray is easy enough to remove, but it is even easier to slide him in and out. The base of the chair is very secure, no concerns about tipping or rocking. The size of the chair is great. Other chairs I've seen can really overpower a room. This one fits into a small space, and is light enought to move out of the way. The seating space looks kind of small, but our son (who is huge at 6 months, 99th %) fits with plenty of room on the sides and in front (which can be adjusted as he grows). Yes, it is pricey. But it isn't that much more than the traditional, ugly, plastic chairs. And you use it 3 times a day. Plus, this one will convert to a toddler chair and a regular chair as he grows. All in all, we love this chair and so does our son. "Terrific High Chair" This chair has been in use for about a year and a half, and it still looks fantastic. My son started using it when he started on solids and he is a little over 2 now. It is it a great-looking high chair that fits in nicely with the decor of the whole room, not sticking out as a "baby" item in an adult room. We have the red seat cover with it. It is also a very easy chair to use, easy to clean, and easy to adjust when necessary. My son is as comfortable in the chair now at over 35 lbs. as when he first sat in it and weighed around 15 lbs. He has always seemed to enjoy this chair. It's also quite easy to get the tray off if you want to wipe it down in the sink. The final thing I will say about purchasing a high chair: it is one of the things we are really glad we splurged on and bought a top-of-the-line product. With a lot of other items, you really can get away with a less aesthetically pleasing look, but we knew that the chair would be in a room that wasn't just a kid's room, but a room that adults shared. We're big on dining at home, and we're glad to have a chair that looks good as well as being functional - it's so pleasing to pull this chair right up to the dining table and have it fit in among the adult chairs.

What our customer's say! "Terrible and Impractical", I bought this chair for my daughter, now 21 months old. I did so knowing it didn't recline, so she couldn't use it until she was almost 8 months old. Anyway, I am SO disappointed in this seat! I am forever tightening allen screws so that it doesn't fall apart, and at 18 months my daughter decided that she would NOT, under ANY circumstances, sit in the seat unless I took the front guard off and pushed her in to the table. However, now she pushes herself away from the table or leans into whoever is sitting next to her all the time and in doing so tips the seat, which doesn't have a large enough base to prevent the chair from tiopping. She also drags the chair to the table (or away from it) when she's not in it and climbs onto the footrest all the time, which is dangerous as well. Altogether with the cushion I spent about $250 on this chair. When I contacted Svan to let them know about this problem, their response was "It sounds to me simply that this product may not be right for your child at this particular stage in their development, in this configuration. As you know, every child has their own preferences and mannerisms, so not all products are right for all children at every stage in their development." Great answer from a company that advertises its product to be suitable for all children up to their teenage years and beyond. Bottom line: DON'T BOTHER!!! "Beautiful, but lacks some practicality", If what you are looking for in a high chair is a piece of furniture that will fit in with the rest of your dining room or kitchen instead of another plastic monster lurking about your house, the Svan may be the chair for you. However I have found that I wish it were a little more practical at times. PROS: 1. Beautiful. Almost everyone who sees this chair in my house comments on it. 2. Adjustible. We started using this chair when my daughter was a little over 5 months and now at 13 months it still fits her perfectly. I have noticed when we have used some other highchairs that she often seems to be sitting down in a hole and the tray is often too high for her, and she is very tall for her age already. This is not the case with the Svan. 3. Small Footprint but Sturdy. I like that the chair is narrow enough that I can slide it in just about anywhere. It is also lightweight enough for me to move it around fairly easily. However even being narrow and fairly lightweight it is in fact quite stable - my daughter grabs the front of the tray and tries to rock it back and forth but it never moves. CONS: 1. Small Tray. At first I didn't notice this, but now that my daughter is more actively involved in her meals, I really wish the tray were both wider and deeper. I know nothing would keep her from throwing her food over the edge when she is determined to do that, but I can't even leave her sippy cup on the tray while she is eating because she accidentally knocks it off with her elbows. 2. Difficult Plastic Tray. I have to say I am very greatful for the plastic tray - I don't know how anyone used this chair before the tray came with it. However it snaps over the wooden tray very tightly, which I guess is both a pro and con. It definitely protects the wooden tray beneath, but I have caught my fingernails (which are very short) and fingertips numerous times trying to open the wrap-around hooks on the sides that keep the plastic tray secure. I guess this is just a minor inconvenience, but since I remove the tray at least daily for cleaning it annoys me sometimes. 3. Difficult to clean. I bought the fabric cushion along with the chair, but with or without it there are a couple crevices (actually, one specifically) in the seat that are difficult to clean. Whenever I get around to a "deep clean" of the chair, which always involves a vacuum for the crevices, I find various dried veggies and pasta and other unidentifiable items. 4. Not mobile. The chair neither folds nor rolls. For the most part this is of no consequence, although I have scratched my wood floors a couple times dragging it around instead of picking it up all the way. Obviously this is a result of me being lazy rather than a flaw in the chair itself, but it is something to consider if you are comparing with another type of chair that has wheels. I think these are the major things I've noticed since I've been using this chair. Overall, I do not regret spending the money on it, but I think if I find myself ever needing another high chair I will probably look around at other options. "Love this highchair!", We love this high chair. Finally a high chair that isn't a giant, ugly presence in my kitchen/dining room! It is easy to assemble, easy to use, easy to clean and on top of it all my five month old daughter loves to just sit in it and play with her toys while I unload the dishwasher, make dinner, etc. A great buy. "Good, not great", We had a lot of trouble with the plastic clips that hold the tray down to the chair. After first trying larger screws (the original screws just pulled out of the wood), we finally had to drill through the tray from above and attach strong bolts. The bolt heads actually look good, but this should not happen with a chair this expensive. Day to day use, the chair has been fine, but just not worth the cost. Yes, it looks nice, but it will be out of your life in a year or two, and I think one with a bigger tray would have served us better. "First Thoughts on the Svan", I just assembled it and am impressed with quality. Went together with ease and seems very stable. Our daugher is 2 now and we wish we had purchased this 2 years ago. I think she'll climb right up and buckle herself in. More as time goes on. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Not traditional cherry wood", Ok, maybe I'm partially to blame as I did NOT look at each of the color samples. After receiving my chair almost 2 WEEKS LATE it was not cherry wood as I would typically think of it. It appears as more of a walnut stain. Not exactly what I had hoped for. In addition to this, the tray was damaged and could potentially pose a choking hazard. We all know how little fingers like to pick at things and a piece of the splintering wood could have chipped off and been swallowed. Or been a splinter to remove from little fingers. Now, Baby Because wants me to pay the $24 to ship it back to them and $24 to ship a new one in "Mahogany". Not exactly the convenience I had hoped for! "Svan High Chair with Sage Cushion", This is the perfect high chair!!!! It is elegant and sleek and much more appealing than those bulky, plastic high chairs. I chose the sage colored cushion and it compliments my decor, which is green. My son is on breast milk and solids, therefore, not overly large. This adjustable seat gives him just enough room to look around comfortably, but not too much to where he is swimming as he would be in a larger chair. The seat is not only comfortable, but it also promotes good posture from an early age, which we all know is extremely important. The instructions were surprisingly easy to follow and the chair was easy to assemble. I didn't have to wait for a man to help me put it together. The fact that this chair will grow with my child and fits so nicely with my decor makes it well worth the price. I did read the many reviews from others who have purchased this chair, this is why I feel compelled to tell others of my wonderful experience with this chair. "Must have high chair!!!", This is a great chair! My 2 1/2 yr old son loves it and meal times are no longer battles trying to get him into his chair. He can climb in and out by himself and we have no fears of it tipping over since it's built so well. He has been using it for 7 months and I love how it grows with him. My husband and I love the fact he can sit at the table and eat with us. It is also easy to adjust (the footrest and seat depth easily adjust to your growing child) and easy to clean. I had a plastic chair and it was horrible. Food was stuck in every crevice and forget being able to get it out. The Svan chair is also smaller than the plastic chairs. The other thing I really like is my son can sit upright instead of leaning back in the plastic chairs, which caused huge messes. I have also had lots of compliments on the "look" since it's more like furniture. We definitely plan on purchasing another one when our newborn is ready for a highchair. "Fabulous highchair!!", We really love the Svan chair and have two of them for our 3 1/2 and 2 year old children. They love climbing in and our of the chair and getting to sit at the table easily with Mom and Dad. I like that I can strap them in with a seatbelt to discourage them wandering around the room while they eat. I have found the chair to be extremely easy to clean. About once a month (if I remember!!), I will loosen the bolts and move the seat to vacuum the small amount of crumbs that are hard to reach with just a wipe of a wet washcloth. This is much easier than I found the Peg Perego high chair which always had tons of food in hard to reach crevices that I finally felt was unsanitary (and we were pretty meticulous about cleaning after each meal.) I agree that they tray is a bit small, but I figured food would wind up on the floor regardless! The size of the chair is wonderful and totally fits into our table. My only problem has been with a seat cushion that did not hold up as well in the wash. But, our other seat cushion is even older and still in great shape. AND, the chair has a great warrantee program so the cushion was replaced free of charge. I have received so many compliments on the chair from friends and family, and have encouraged many new purchases. The lifespan of the chair is also a great feature...you don't have to pack it up and store it just because a child outgrows a traditional high chair. ![]() |
