"Works great"
I got this for my husband. At his work, the coffee is really bad. With this, he can make a small amount of coffee for himself. It's quick, makes a good cup of coffee, and cleans up easily. He's pleased, so I am too.

"Works great"
I got this for my husband, who is a coffee-maker maniac. He's tried many kinds. He hates the coffee they have at work, and this press allows him to make some for just himself. It's easy to use, not messy to clean out, and makes a tasty cup of coffee.

"A really classy design, and just the right amount of coffee"
My Pinzon 8-cup coffee press does not look like the one pictured when I got it. It looks BETTER! It has a band of chrome encircling the carafe for extra support and stability and the sides of the carafe are straight up and down. The look fits in with my kitchen: black, glass, and stainless steel.

The handle has a subtle, elegant design. The way it is turned reminds me of the mobius bands we used to make from strips of paper when I was a child. I don't know what it is made of, but it's not your typical plastic. It's got a cushioned feel and will definitely keep your hand from being burned.

The press does NOT make 8 typical American cups of coffee. Hey, if your "cup" holds 16 oz., you'll get two of them at a go with this. But that works out perfectly for us. We can have one large, leisurely delicious cup then have another one later. For the person who is using this press in an office or as a personal brewer, it certainly makes plenty of coffee for the whole day. Anyone drinking more than this amount of coffee is a caffeine addict who probably ought to cut down!

On the whole, very elegant, classy, delightful, and would make a nice gift for anyone. I like the idea, too, that if the electricity goes out we can still boil water in our Kelly Kettle or by other non-electric means and still get our gourmet coffee fix.

"Makes a good cup of coffee!"
About a year ago, I bought my first french press and since then, it is the only way I will make coffee. Brewing coffee this way just makes the taste much more flavorful. Plus, it's fun!

This press has some nice features. The design is sleek and contemporary. I like the added touch of the curved handle. I also like how the mesh comes up around the edge of the plunger to insure that no coffee grounds end up in the finished cup. It seems really sturdy so I anticipate it will stand up to several brewings.

It is a bit difficult to clean. Between the coils, the mesh, and the bottom of the plunger, there are a lot of little nooks and crannies. It's important to take the time to clean it properly or it will affect the taste of your next cup. Other than that, I'm happy with it!

"Stick with Bodum!"
Upon receiving this coffee press I immediately put it to test with my Bodum. The result: I cannot discern any difference in the coffee, which is a good sign, but two things got me thinking before I finished the first brew.

1. The anti-slip coating on the handle is made of some rather smelly "rubber" (I am not sure what material it really is). I didn't notice this at first, but the smell is strong enough that it left some on my hand. I noticed the smell when I was about to drink the coffee and fortunately it was on my hand and not in the drink. I guess this rubber smell will come off eventually, but I do have some reservation about this material.

2. Having replaced the beaker in my Bodum a few times in the past, I noticed that this Pinzon design doesn't seem to allow an easy beaker replacement. I tried to separate the beaker from the frame and it seems difficult at best. I don't know about you, but I prefer to buy a coffee press that has this option because it's cheaper in the long run. Hence my title and one star off.

What our customer's say!

"Avoid. Lots better out there", The Short:
If you do not have one, and want one, go with Bodum.

If you have a press pot and you're shopping around; this is a poor series of design flaws.
Avoid it.

The Long:
I use press pots and have for years now. I am an avid tea, tisanes, and occasional coffee drinker. These do the job and do it well, even with the flaws I found this one usable for my purposes, but overall it is a failure and should be avoided.

It is a classic press pot, but this one is made for looks and not use. It even fails at that, in that it is average looking at best. It is almost an artistic design in irony, because it is a collection of flaws of press pot past.

The handle, base, holder are tightly attached to the carafe all one piece and have a kind of vulcanized coating to protect from heat. The handle has a twist at the top making it difficult to use your left hand if you are a lefty. The vulcanized coating has an odd aroma for a week or two as well. Not quite rubber, more like a child's toy that became a microwave oven experiment.

Cleanup is the worst, an absolute nightmare. The three part design is held in by one pin, you need to unscrew this small pin to get at and clean the filters. The pin is small, rounded and easily lost. Without it you no longer have a press pot but an expensive stein/carafe. What is more, removing it takes two agile hands, any disability or if you're not good with tiny objects and you'll need third party help. The base does not separate from the and the bottom collects everything easily, it seems made to do so. Moisture, dripping, grounds on the counter, it all gets in there and is on display through the carafe.

I could go on and on but the above is already enough to avoid it.

The second star is because it is functional. You can use it as a press pot. It does the job. Just don't expect this one to last the years like your trusty Bodum does. Did I mention avoid this product?

"Never tasted such rich coffee", My brother who has traveled all over the world (and loves his coffee) and I tested this coffee press. I have never tasted coffee with such rich flavor before and was very impressed. I normally use a Senseo machine which I love, and which is very handy on a daily basis for me, but this press will be a nice alternative to use. I would imagine guests being very impressed with this interesting and different way of brewing coffee right at the table, especially when the flavor is so superb!

The unit itself is very attractive and appears "high end"; however, I gave it 4 stars because the handle appears somewhat flimsy and I wonder how long it is going to last. The rest of the unit is quite sturdy and heavy. The filter works well and effectively to separate the grounds from the coffee. One nice feature is that you can brew anywhere between 2 and 8 cups of coffee at a time.

I wouldn't use this everyday because of having to heat the water, grind the beans, wait for it to brew, and clean the unit, but it will definitely be in my arsenal of coffee units.

"Works well", This French Press works well. The plunger operates smoothly and does an excellent job of filtering. The finished coffee has only the tiniest bit of sediment. The clean lines and stainless steel make an attractive presentation.

I have deducted one star because it requires hand washing according to the instructions. I have been washing mine, except for the frame, in the dishwasher (top rack) and have seen no ill effects. The beaker is not difficult to remove from the frame. Turn it clockwise while lifting. It comes right out. To return it to the frame, separate the halves of the frame slightly with your fingers, then turn the beaker clockwise while pushing it down into the frame.

As another reviewer has pointed out, the rubber coating on the handle does have a smell when new. A few washings and this disappears.

One last comment. This is the second piece of coffee-making equipment that I have acquired which, according to the coffee geeks, is essential for a superior cup of coffee (the other being a burr grinder). It is also the second time that I have been underwhelmed by the results. Please understand, there is nothing wrong with the coffee from the Pinzon - it's just not any better than the coffee that my Cuisinart drip machine produces. I make no star deduction for this, as it may be the result of the coffee I use, the way I grind it, my technique or my taste-buds.

"From Mud to Elixir: Coffee Press Quietly Creates Pleasure", Coffee grounds like tiny pebbles huddled not knowing their fate, their future for the wave to rush down upon them. Filtered water, boiled and poured down, pushed the grounds away from gravity's rest into a new mixture. The world, at least the portion in this room, changed as two things became better as one.

With the Pinzon Coffee Press, all was allowed in silence. No machines hissed and beeped unpleasantly. Nature remained undisturbed. My hound dog barely gave notice while he snoozed this Saturday morning, and would have been entirely asleep if he had not heard my grin. But I smiled and he lifted his disinterested head to remind me it was before noon.

This coffee press offers quick and quiet delivery of a drink known to all. It will not make the beans grow differently, or add cream and sugar for you. It presses coffee... wonderfully.

"Great style and function", I'm very pleased with this pot.

Makes a great pot of coffee or tea, with or without electricity.
Since we usually brew coffee in an electric coffeemaker, this pot allows us to brew up some great tea without concern about flavors hanging around in the coffeemaker.

Also great to have on hand during power outages to brew coffee.
Looks great, works great.
