Others say...
"Overrated & it underperforms" I bought this after reading the rave reviews. I have been using a refurb Cuisinart burr grinder which I use for drip (melitta type) w/ a paper cone. The grind I get from the Cuisinart is uniformly fine & the coffee is excellent. But since it's kind of falling apart, I thought I'd spring for the extra money for the Kitchenaid. What a disappointment!! The finest grind has larger grains interspersed w/the fine grains. Moreover, it simply stopped working altogether after I used it 3 times!! I called Kitchenaid customer service who asked if I used oily beans as if that was some kind of cardinal sin. If a Kitchenaid can't handle oily beans and a cheapie Cuisinart can, well then Kitchenaid needs to go back to the drawing board. Needless to say, it went right back and when my Cuisinart dies, I'll get a new one. "Got what I expected" I had read several reviews on this grinder. I have better control of the grind and the sound level is greatly reduced from my previous grinder. The only problem that was pointed out in other reviews is the clean up. The ground coffee sticks to the grinder and the glass container. Coffee is not kept in the glass container even while it is being ground. The rubber on the bottom of the grinder are so thin that the screws holding them will scratch the counter if you are not careful. This may sound like I am unhappy with the grinder but its virtues outweigh the negatives. I would buy it again. "Lovely workhorse!" I got this grinder when I bought the matching coffee maker. I bought both because I fell in love with their color and design. And they ARE gorgeous! My brief review of the coffee maker is elsewhere. Let me just say that the grinder works every bit as great as it looks. (About how many products can you truly make that statement?) "More hassle than it's worth" I bought this product a month ago because I LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee and I had heard that burr grinders produced better tasting coffee than blade grinders. After a month of use I've gone back to my blade grinder. Here is my summary of its features from which you can draw your own conlusions: Pros: 1) You set the granularity level once and get a consistent grind, instead of the timing and checking method necessary with a blade grinder. 2) You can grind more coffee in a batch. 3) Flicking the switch on this device is easier than the consistent pressure required by blade grinders. Cons: 1) I use French Roast, which is fairly oily, and the unit clogs after every single batch. So I have to clean it every five days! This involves taking it apart with a screwdriver, brushing and scraping the burrs, then putting it back together again. This is not a quick or easy operation. Plus, if you still have coffee in the reservoir when it clogs, there's no way to remove the reservoir without spilling beans all over. 2) The ground coffee has particles of all different sizes. This isn't a huge deal, but I have to use more coffee because there are always useless larger chunks of coffee in the grind. 3) It's way more expensive and takes up a lot more room than a blade grinder. 4) The coffee does not taste any better to me than when ground by a blade grinder, and I'm a coffee snob who is very sensitive to taste. All the talk about grinding versus crushing is beside the point. I hope that helps :>) "Fantastic Grinder!" KitchenAid upgraded me to this grinder as a courtesy after I had a lot of trouble with their $100 retro grinder. This new grinder produces a uniform grind with very little dust. It has several adjustment settings and even comes with instructions on how to fine-tune the burrs. We have a french press and two Bodum Santos vaccuum pots, and both produce a very fine cup of coffee with virtually no sludge. I would have never spent $300 on a coffee grinder, but after using this one for the past 2 1/2 years, I would now. At the discounted prices available on Amazon and the like, this grinder is an excellent value.

KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Grinder KPCG100
What our customer's say! "Great grinder!", This is a fantastic coffee grinder! Even grind, adjustable burr to go beyound the preset choices. Quiet(for a coffee grinder!)and smooth running. Love the glass hopper and bin. The only thing I would change is the shape of the bin that the grinds go into. It's a large bell shape which is akword for my small hands. Otherwise, it's the best I've ever owned! "Underwhelmed", So utterly disappointing! After reading all the reviews and technical descriptions I settled on the K.A. because of the K.A. reputation and because it's the only burr grinder with a glass catch bowl. I was tired of the static cling inherent with plastic catch containers. Plastic containers also abrade thus exacerbating the cling problem. So I'll keep this exorbitant purchase (costing 4 times as much as I needed to spend) but very begrudgingly. First, the auger feed mechanism LOOKS robust and more than adequate to the task but doesn't work worth a darn. I time the grind to meter the amount of ground coffee. This method doesn't work because the feed occasionally cavitates throwing the timing off entirely. Further, the fact that there is no timer on this expensive machine is a bit surprising to begin with. I have to use the sweep second hand on my watch. Secondly, there apparently remains a sufficient amount of ground coffee in the grinding chamber after the motor is shut off to turn rancid and spoil the next day's batch. My coffee no longer tastes as good as it used to. I expected far more from Kitchen Aid, especially considering the tall price. However, the grind uniformity is very good. "Nice unit overall....", Its a solid unit and does a very good job providing an even grind. Its relatively quiet as well. Only negatives are - Its got a large "footprint" (takes up counter space) - On occasion the beans get stuck in the feeder mechanism requiring a slight tap. - The dial does shimmy a little when grinding (which may be a sign of issues to come?) Its certainly not cheap but does a nice job and seems to be of solid construction. We're using in a small office environment. "Best Coffee Grinder You Can Buy", This is the best coffee grinder you can buy. The grind is uniform and your coffee will taste better as a result. I bought one for the office and was so happy with it, I bought one for my home. I've owned both for about two years. Other people who share my office have used it and bought one for THEIR homes after using it. It's that good. It has a few flaws, but they can be easily overcome. Here's how: 1. The lower glass container is pretty thin, and removing it can knock coffee dangling from underneath the unit onto your countertop. Here's the solution to both problems: DON'T USE IT! That's right, I don't even know where either of mine are. Put the coffee in the top container, then hold the filter underneath the unit and turn it on. You won't break the glass container because you won't use it, the paper filter won't knock the coffee from the bottom of the unit, and, as an added plus, there is nothing to clean. 2. There is no measure on the upper container. Big deal, for $1 at any kitchen store, you can but a measuring scoop. Try to find a flat bottom one if you can. 3. Some beans get stuck above the grinding gears. Another non-issue: for $1, at any kitchen store or coffee shop, you can buy a small coffee brush (it looks like a watercolor paint brush, but with very short bristles arranged in a wide, flat pattern). So the technique is: scoop the amount of coffee you want with your $1 scoop. Hold a filter underneath with one hand and grab your $1 brush with the other. Turn the unit on and use the brush to brush the coffee beans around. 10 seconds later, you are done and there is NOTHING to clean, EVER! You'll never go back: we never did and everyone who uses it in my office buys one for their home. "KitchenAid Pro Line Burr Coffee Grinder lives up to it's name", Having owned the less expensive KitchenAid burr coffee grinder for three years, while a workhorse, was inconvenient to use. The feed for the container where the coffee entered the glass had to be cleaned after several cups worth of coffee beans were ground, which was annoying. The fact that the cup had to be positioned directly under the spout did not prevent the grinds from often spilling outside the cup. Because the Pro Line feeds the grounds directly into a glass container underneath the grinder no clean up is required. It's more powerful motor although not noise free, runs smoothly and more quietly than the upright model. The glass container on top of the unit holds enough coffee beans for at least one to two weeks worth of coffee cups depending on the number of cups I have per day. It's accessibility consists of simply removing the lift off top which makes it easy to use. The quality of the grind is consistent with the number you select on the adjustable dial that clicks into place to create the desired coarseness or fine expresso grind. An improvement can be made where the glass container under the grinder is removed in that some of the grinds fall when the cup is pulled out for use, creating a minor splatter. In addition, a measuring spoon would be a welcome for preparation of the coffee. Overall, the function of the Pro Line Coffee makes it a pleasure to use, and it's appearance makes it an appliance that easily fits in any coffee lover's kitchen. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Simply the best burr grinder for the money!", The last of a long line of coffee grinders in our house - had ours for three-years now. Little or no static cling. NO mess!!! Uniform grind. Looks like it'll last forever. Without too much difficulty, you can find grinders selling at two and three times as much as this KitchenAid but I'm certain that they aren't as well built and will almost certainly spray coffee grounds and dust over your counter with every use. This is truly an exceptional product (this coming from a coffee snob who never flinched while purchasing his second $300, Dutch-built brewer). "Pro Line Burr Grinder", This grinder does an excellent job. The consistency of the individual settings is precise and uniform. If I had I had a negative comment it would be that there is no way to judge the amount of coffee ground either by built in timer or measuring marks on the bowl. The only way to always grind the same amount of coffee is by measuring the whole beans placed in the top coffee holder. This is a miner inconvenience for an excellent cup of coffee. "Coffee Grinder", The best grinder I ever used. Makes perfect coffee everytime. Cant go wrong "Better than a civet cat.", Civet cats don't poop coffee ground to order. Why pay more? Why pay less? Why buy something that doesn't weigh 20# and look like it's from 1948? Why deal with cheap pieces of plastic jetsam that spew vaporized coffee glitter everywhere and get beans stuck in their hopper? The only good thing about them is that you get to physically abuse them to get the beans flowing again. If you want a simple hammer, this is it. It grinds your coffee with no complaints, the way you want it, relatively quietly and little to no mess. None of that hanging chad associated with plastic grinders and hoppers. "Just works and works what more can you ask?", Just buy it. The cheap ones are going to malfunction. This one is well amde with a 2-year replacement warranty. ![]() |
